Would definitely recommend the hotel to friends. Collapse

Big hotel, beautiful grounds and green space. Check in friendly and quick. Family room booked. My husband and two children 1 nearly 4 and baby 16 months. Cot request was quickly and descretly delivered. Room was spacious 2 large double beds. Tea and coffee and water perfect. Tolietries good selection. Spa and pool was nice and warm. Although as a family we wanted to change together if we had had slipers robes we would have already changed in our room. We used the disabled and so did other families as the bin was piled high full of napies right next to the seat where the kids were sitting bit gross! Evening meal always a bit of a stress with 2 kids under 4. 7.30 booking Zest Restraurant, table was ready and the place had a busy vibe. Fair few families with children. This wasnt cheap food but a great standard and i could not fault a thing. We had the 3 course special with wine. The steak and chips peppercorn sauce - delicious. I thought this restraurant was brilliant food and staff even with children! Breakfast again busy vibe but not manic. Easter sunday families were sat in another room not in Broadstreet restraurant the posh bit. But this room was closer to the buffet and as all kids are together the stress is minimised by other parents in the same boat. Also a tv in here. Food was good again. Great choice, everything from full english to fresh juices and fruit, cakes and jams waffels even. Tea or coffee served when seated, what i expect. All expectations met, perfect 4star hotel. Collapse

Tonight is our 3rd & final night and whilst we have had a lovely break, I feel I needed to review this hotel. Having stayed at Marriotts previously, it's clear this one is in need of a revamp....and a whole new team of cleaners. We're a family of 4 with 2 young kids, so were given a family suite. First room had a broken sofa bed with springs exposed, so we had to move as the kids couldn't sleep on it. 2nd room was filthy, thick layers of dust on everything, cigarette ash on the window sill and wee stains on the toilet! After complaining the room was thoroughly cleaned. However it's still the little things which gripe.....no remotes with either TVs, no new glasses when room is cleaned, no toilet roll in room, the most disgusting looking stain on the kids sofa bed mattress......it's like no-one cares anymore? It's such a shame, as the staff in the bar/restaurant are lovely, food is good (especially breakfast) and pool area great. Having read similar reviews to mine recently, I don't understand how and why this isn't being dealt with? Despite the positives, no one wants to stay in a dirty hotel. Collapse

This was our 4th visit to this hotel but we came away feeling a little flat whether there would be a fifth. It's not the cheapest of options so wondering if it was good value this time. Using it as a base for our Paultons park trip is ideal it's about 30 mins away and set in nice grounds. The hotel is fine, the swimming pool is warm and good changing facilities for families etc. Breakfast is great, plenty of options and very accommodating if you want/need something adjusting or 'off the menu' etc. Separate large room for families with a little telly and drawing table in the corner but wish they would ask if this is ok for you. Our family is not 'young' anymore (9,7 & 3) so would have been nice to sit in the main restaurant where it's a little quieter and less distracting at breakfast but that's a minor gripe. My main gripe this time was the housekeeping (we have never had an issue before). We did not check in until 7pm so time was not an issue. There was a closh and a fake plastic flower near the window obviously from the previous occupants. Two empty water bottles, one near the tv and one under the small table near the bin, there was a used pod in the coffee maker and water in the tank (previous hotels with this facility always leave it clean/empty same as kettle). There was thick/obvious dust on the surfaces and bed frame etc this is such a minor oversight but it is obviously overlooked a lot for it to get that bad, not just missed for one/two days. The bathroom was fine. We did not complain as it was late, the kids were tired and realistically what could they do at that time to rectify? The staff we encountered were all pleasant and friendly. My wife and I live "up north" and drive down to Southampton to go cruising. It is a long haul so we drive down the day before and stay at the Meon Valley overnight. As we book through Planet Cruise we get a great deal on accommodation, car storage and port transfers. On arrival the reception desk look after our heavy luggage so we do not have to take it to the rooms. The place is very clean and in pleasant surroundings. We leave our car in a quiet car park at the side of the hotel where it is out of range of the golfers (but not the birds that roost in the trees sadly - though that is not the hotels fault!). We have friends who live locally and always come and have dinner with us at the hotel - everyone has always enjoyed their meal and the evening menu is interesting. The hotel has always been quiet and the cooked breakfast is excellent and well presented. The only thing I would say is that they need to update their beds which are not the most comfortable I have slept in. Collapse
