We went there recently with our extended family (12 of us in all) to celebrate my 70th birthday. This was a surprise organised and paid for by my wife - four rooms in all for 2 nights, so quite an expensive weekend. Unfortunately some aspects of our stay were very disappointing. On the first night the restaurant was closed (we had no advance warning of this) so we had to eat in the breakfast room which had enough lights to illuminate a football pitch - so absolutely no atmosphere, and offered what we thought was a bar menu. On the second night the restaurant was open but the very limited menu from the previous evening was the same. The food was not particularly good or well cooked. We were also very unhappy with the payment arrangements. Despite making it clear that we were paying for all 4 rooms, the Reception staff managed to charge our son-in-law's credit card on arrival. This was rectified eventually after being told that in fact the card had not been charged but a few hours that it had. But who wants to spend time trying to explain these things to staff who do not speak fluent English and whose only excuse seemed to be that the two members of staff involved in the mix-ups were on training. Why was there not a trained member of Reception staff on duty with those who are being trained? The only member of staff who stood out was a very helpful waiter who was Scottish. Unfortunately, I didn't take his name. On the plus side the rooms were fine, breakfast was good (why is dinner so poor?) and the pool area and staff were good. But I'm afraid that the bad was greater than the good which took the edge off our celebrations. Collapse

Had a one night stay here in room 102. Very nice room with 2 double beds, bathroom, large flat screen tv. Very comfortable and quite large. Excellent club sandwich for lunch and then a late dinner in the new Cast Iron Bar and Grill. Breakfast was served buffet style in the Broadstreet restaurant and I have to say it was one of the best breakfasts I have had in a hotel. Hotel looks out onto a golf course and has a spa etc. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend staying here. Collapse

Stayed in this hotel for a overnight break. We found this a very good value for money. Paid £79 for a deluxe room and on arrival was upgraded to a suite room as we are a gold Marriott member. The staff were very friendly. There was canapés and drinks on arrival , cupcakes to say thank-you on departure. This was such a nice gesture from the hotel staff. We were also offered a late checkout and a free breakfast. The room was very spacious as it was a suite. There was a large lobby/living room and a double bedroom and good size bathroom. We had a lovely view of the golf courses and the greenery. This hotel is located in the countryside and outside of the amenities but it is perfect if you are driving as portsmouth harbour is 30 minutes drive so as Southampton central. We also visited the new forest and enjoyed the autumn vibes there which was 40 minutes away. As this is in the countryside the building is slightly outdated and could benefit from a refurbishment specially the bathroom. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed this stay. Highly recommend if you are looking for alternative hotel and is happy to drive around portsmouth/southampton/new forest area. Collapse

We stayed one night in a standard room. The room had an en suite bathroom with bath and showers over. There was a safe and ample clothes hanging space. The room was neat and tidy. Checkin was quick and efficient, full marks. There are lifts to the upper floors but there are a few internal stairs (a few steps) which might be difficult for those with mobility problems (I’d guess that the hotel staff allocate rooms according to any special requirements so no issues there). The hotel is set within large grounds utilised for a championship golf golf, golf academy, tennis courts are there too. Very good amenities. We used the (free access) steam room and pool, which were very nice. There’s also a sauna too. These amenities are shared male and female and are adjacent to the pool and hot tub, so everything is in easy access whilst in your swimming gear. There is a massage facility available at extra charge which we didn’t use. We had out evening meal in the Zest bar/restaurant which was the only dining facility open that night. The food was the standard fare but was enjoyable and reasonably priced too. We used the hotel to stay in pre cruise and leave our car in the car park whilst we were away (check out their all inc rates for stay, car parking and taxi to and from the ship). All in all we’d definitely consider staying in this hotel again pre or post cruise as it’s only about 30 mins taxi ride from the terminals. Collapse
