Unless you’re train enthusiast , don’t bother ! Overall very average. A number of times per year my husband & I have weekends in London – enjoying what the capital has to offer. We have on many occasions stayed at Ealing at the Doubletree Hilton (which is excellent) The only down side the rooms are quite small which is usual for hotels near and surrounding London. With the above in mind, and the fact I thought if we stayed in a different area – we’d do different restaurants in the evening etc, I decided to book Marlin apartments. The price was comparative and I had stayed in one at Aldgate (penthouse, some many years ago and it had been excellent) On arrival which was easy to find with Sat nav – we had been told unless extra was paid; check in wouldn’t be until after 3pm, which was fine – as we obtained parking permit quickly, in their secure gated car park. I called at their public area toilet (which was, I have to say; dirty and not great first impression) –then headed into the central London. The positive to Strafford Marlin is, its approx. 5-7 mins walk to the train station and Westfield shopping centre – the area is busy and with plenty of shops, restaurants, cinemas and theatre within mins of the apartment. Its Zone is 2 which made tube per day cheaper than staying at Hilton in Ealing. We arrived back to check in at 6.30pm on Friday 1st Sept – whilst I will say 100% my booking stated, I would need photo ID such as passport or Diving licence – and the card used to prepay had to be present and in my name. I hadn’t got my passport with me, but I always have photos on my iphone of the photo page – therefore thought this would be more than sufficient – after all, I had NEVER been asked by a hotel or apartment prior for this for this extra booking in detail. It’s also worth pointing out – within my job as an Office Manager, I book accommodation for staff Nationwide – always paying on my company debit card and often I don’t know staff names staying until day of arrival, as we move staff to suit work reactively. With the above policy in place, the business could never use Marlin – we use Flexi-lets to name another company and never have problems either with checking in or quality of their apartments. Reception or Concierge (as they call it) is very small and staff whilst friendly – I think would benefit from uniform (but this is personal thing) as I think it sets a certain standard. Together with myself, there was a young lady whom had been trying to check in since 3pm, she too had forgot her passport but again like me; had a photo of this on her phone and the card she’d paid with originally was present. She explained she had had to cancel her room and re-book paying extra (for the same room) in her boyfriend’s name who drove to the apartment to provide his passport ( not sure how far he’d travelled to enable this) My husband and I explained living 3 hours away we would not be doing this and if the ladies could offer no solution a Manager should be contacted as it was late on a Friday and we wasn’t prepared to be messed about like the younger lady. I did say, if I were to be a fraudulent person – I had gone to some trouble – having got photos of both mine and my husband’s passport, purse full of cards in my name and even one had a photo of my husband on it- what I would also state is that the company secure additional to the rent of the apartment a £500.00 bond in case of damage – & told this secure hold can take 5-10 days to release – which could pose problem depending on personal finances. As there is no check out procedure carried out with guests , you’re entirely in their hands to say if you left the apartments as found. (I took plenty of photos on entry and exist) After 45 mins we managed to get checked in after the ladies cleared this with their manager. The younger lady was most upset that we’d not had the 3.5 hours hassle she had suffered nor had to pay extra. The reason she was given, was I’d stayed prior – although I’m not sure if this was checked – it was many years ago but might still register on their system – I’ll give them benefit of the doubt and say this was the truth or perhaps they knew my husband and I wouldn’t be quite as obliging to spend 3.5 hours plus, trying to sort something that fitted their ridiculous policy. When they do have your passport all they do is photo copy it – so in the end they have exactly what both the lady and I had –a photocopy! After all the hassle to enter the apartment you would expect it to be of really high standard and the clientele to be of such too, after all they seem very particular whom stays. This is not the case. The rooms have not been updated since I stayed with them (poss more than 10 years ago) – it’s still the terracotta colour furnishings of sofa and rug etc they dress all their properties in – both of which have seen cleaner days. The flat is very average / just satisfactory – nothing to get excited about. It major problem is , it isn’t modernised for use – there is no central heating (electric rads on walls) when we stayed it was roasting hot and doesn’t have air con either. You could open a window, but as you are sat almost on top of the railway line – you’d not hear yourself speak if you opened the windows – the train noise is very loud and they pass on average every few minutes throughout the night – I wouldn’t stay on the above basis alone. But coupled with its other faults just adds to the overall picture. Kitchen – no kettle (we had to request one, which we did get with extra tea bags ) Loose coffee provided but must be used in cafeteria – not one to use, so useless Kitchen starting to peel in places and marks on wall above sink Bathroom – Flat above must have had a leak and this has come through – you can see it’s an old stain – but this has just been left. It’s wouldn’t take much – possibly few hours to sort at most, to strip, Zinsser it and emulsion again. Shower screen doesn’t come far enough over for the fixed shower head so water sprays over On a good note – which is important to remain balanced review – the water is lovely and hot and great water pressure. Bedroom – wardrobe doors no longer stay shut – but small problem and room is fine. Ceilings – have random sello- tape – no idea why The cleanliness of the overall flat is – satisfactory – not great but certainly not as bad as the disabled toilet I’d seen on arrival. Their Managing Director states in their literature – they ‘put guest satisfaction above all else, with simple ethos of quality, service and valve and constantly striving to surpass their own high standards’ ………this is certainly not true and far from it. ‘we want to exceed your expectations each and every time and that’s how we became serviced apartments industry leader’ – if this is leader the rest of the competition must be very poor – although personal experience suggests other providers are much better. I think Marlin have over the years – rested back on the laurels and not ploughed profits back into the company – which was seen in the poor maintenance, lack of upgrades to buildings, and staff. On coming back following our evenings out – we were greeted by a drunk man hanging out of the flat window above reception main door - and 3 security men – this we felt just added to the full picture of Marlin – if they’re are aiming at high end clientele with their over complicated daft check in – they certainly are million miles apart. In a highly competitive market – you are advised to seek alternatives which are equal in price but much better. Also, when the emailed to ask for me to complete questionnaire on my stay – I did so- and at end of the survey said – ‘error press return’ – to be then told – ‘questionnaire didn’t exist!! ‘ - They only want to hear good feedback not constructive perhaps Collapse

Not a bad place to stay as it's literally a stones throw away from Westfield mall (the Stratford one) and has a pub that is also owned by marlin right next to the apartments with a specially made secure pedestrian exit from the reception area to pub or mall. I thought this was great and so near to Stratford train station/ interchange. Easy access to all of London and a cheaper alternative to living in central London which isn't too far away at all! We were in a penthouse apartment with great views and easy access to rooftop which we really appreciated!! Views were fab we could even see the O2 arena and financial district from the top. Apartment also had a large balcony area..Loved this! (See photos) Staff were not professional and a little full of themselves they just did their job nothing extraordinary and not necessarily polite... Car parking at this facility was charged at £20 a night during our stay!! That's a lot! (We parked on the road next day)! Some cars were clamped so don't even think of not paying.. The facilities appeared clean as you entered however, the finer detail not so much...eg clean floors but move a sofa and lots of dirt. Clean toilet seat but look closer and there's trickling stains flowing down toilet that could easily come off. Sofas in the apartment need steaming see photos attached. Shower screens needed more cleaning and corners in the shower enclosure could have done with a little bleach to whiten them. The apartments seem to be cleaned before your arrival there's no doubt but they could do with paying attention to detail too. Bedding and towels were supplied and were clean. It had Two double bedrooms, small living area with sofa bed and a kitchenette. There was a busy underground train next to the facility and our bedroom window seemed to bring all the noise in when open just be weary when booking if you can't sleep in such noise. Wasn't so bad with closed window but still audible. The apartments are actually nicely decorated and spacious with a Kitchenette with good quality appliances, a neff cooler and double oven, dishwasher and washing machine which I thought was fab! A small supply of complimentary water in fridge (2 bottles) and a little milk, lots of tea bags and a bag of ground coffee and a couple dishwasher tablets. Fridge freezer, kettle, toaster and cutlery including dinnerware and wine glasses were all provided and in clean state. I would stay here again if need be but facilities could be even better if owners could pay attention to detail and train the staff in customer service. On checkout, receptionist was on the phone and did not even hold on to receive keys, instead we were motioned to leave them as he spoke on phone. In all fairness this could have been a business call but still poor customer service for us. We were safe, and comfortable which is key and this review is just to help any would be travellers that like detail. Collapse

the problems start as you arrive, carpark gates not working or secure. shambolic check in was waiting ages then told i could not not check in as i did not have the card which it was booked with .. even though it was booked through an agent. after 2 hours of unsucessfully trying to sort it due to thier resevations disk closing at 7:30 i gave up and drove home. as this was booked by my company i had to return the following night, this time the room was sorted but not the PARKING which should of been EXTRA i refused to pay this as it had been booked. The rooms are very very cheaply furnished with unclean pans in the greasy cupboards. Very noisey due to thin walls and main train line only feet away. i would not choose to stay here again Very disappoint Collapse

I had checked-in to Marlin Apartment, Stratford in the beginning of July 2017. My experience with Marlin Apartment for one month is the same as I have read the reviews. With 2-3 railway tracks and a road just next to the apartment, it is a difficult place to live with all the noise 24/7. The place was very hot and humid and you can’t keep the door open for the noise and flies. I didn’t have a good sleep for first few nights as my apartment was on the side of Roads and Railway Tracks. After complaining about the same I was shifted to another room facing the courtyard, after 4 days. This room was sort of, okay to stay for a couple of days but not up to the standard for a business travel. Here are some of the issues and challenges I had to face in Marlin apartments, Stratford: • Cleanliness - Carpets were very dirty. Spider nets around the place. The floor under the Sofa, Tables, and Bed was not cleaned for months together. • Cigarettes stinking – Bathroom was stinking cigarettes until they changed the bin after complaining multiple times for 5 consecutive days. • No weekly replenishment of consumables – All Consumables like, soap, shampoo, body lotion etc. are supposed to be replenished on daily or weekly basis during the scheduled service and I have seen this happening in all Serviced Apartment where I have stayed during last 11-12 years, but this was not the case with Marlin Apartments. • No weekly change of Bed sheets and linens – Again bed sheets and other linens are usually changed during the Weekly Service in any serviced apartment, but here sometimes they didn’t even change the old bed sheets and linens. • No Tea bags and Milk – Though they have a teapot and they have the same listed in their amenities, but they would not give you tea bags, sugar, milk etc. after initial few days. • Inadequate Lighting – Most of the electric bulbs in the ceiling were not working. I had to complain for more than one week before the bulbs were replaced. • Pathetic Customer Service – Any of my concern or issues were not addressed at one time. I had to complain multiple times to get anything sorted out. Tanim was the only guy at the Front Desk who was very helpful. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Collapse
