Good value and more room than a hotel but pack your headphones

In London accommodation terms, this is a fairly good value alternative to a single hotel room. Being able to do self catering for a couple of meals and do my washing, and spread out a bit was fabulous. It is a convenient 1 minute walk to the Canon Street station and the apartment is reasonably well appointed. The appliances are a bit old or hard to figure out how to use but staff were helpful. The only drawback and the reason I have 3 stars is that it is NOISY! Pack your earphones. My flat on the first floor rumbled with every.single.train that passed under the building - the trains run every couple of minutes till about midnight, the garbage truck and delivery trucks started about 4am outside, and the trains started at 5am. The noise of the bars on Friday night was very loud but I just went out and joined in. Pack your earphones - you will need them!! Collapse

We had a one bed apartment with sofa bed made up for the little kids. Ample size for our stay and good value for money given the standard, especially versus other hotel options considered for our family size. The staff are very welcoming on the front desk and the amenities are ideal. There's a number of restaurant on the doorstep as you'd expect with this prime location and also a dominos and a couple of express convenience stores next door. It's located 2 min away from Mansion House underground, which is also the only real downside. If a light sleeper like me, the combination of the bells from nearby St Paul's, the local church and the underground vibrations every 5 minutes from early morning to late at night, make for a less than ideal sleep. The bells are fine as that's a known when booking the location, but the vibrations are more significant than I would have thought for an overground structure. Overall, I'd recommend, but be warned if you're a light sleeper! Collapse

We were transferred here due to Our original booking in Stratford being lost. On arrival we received an apology and given an upgraded room. The apartment was nice and clean and the only problem was the thunderous vibration when an Underground train run underneath every 2-3 minutes. Easy reach to 3 tube stations, Mansion House, Cannon Street and St. Paul's. Handy for a city break within London and Westminster. If you don't fancy going anywhere there is a Dominos Pizza at the end of the building. Collapse

We arrived in London via London City Airport which made these serviced apartments less than a 1/2 hour ride away on the DLR (train) which was pretty convenient. We purchased our Oyster Cards in advance and had home delivery so we were ready to travel as soon as we landed. From the Bank DLR station, we walked less than 10 min with our luggage in tow to Queen Street. There were lots of good restaurant smells as we walked. We could smell the Domino's Pizza as we came (an inviting smell to us). There was a buzzer outside the entrance, but staff buzzed us in and kindly agreed to put our luggage in their back room while we went sightseeing as our apartment was not ready (this was expected as we were early). We found later that this room is not kept locked so were glad we had not stored valuables. We returned about 9pm and only got in the front door because another guest was working his keycode at the same time. The front desk was empty. There was a note saying they were attending to the needs of a guest, a phone # to call (that went to voice mail), and no clue how long it would be. Since there is no a/c, we had a stuffy 30-40 min wait. (We have been assured that the staff has been "re-trained" in this matter. I assume it is not normal to leave the front desk completely unattended.) Once we reached our room, we were very happy with the accommodations. The room was clean and completely met or exceeded expectations as far as decor/room size. We'd loved having separate space for adults/kids to sleep (kids on a pull out couch in living area - we paid an extra fee for that), a full kitchen, bathroom, etc. We did end up with issues running the washer/dryer (one unit), but there were instructions (not-intelligible enough for this American). I should have had staff come and explain to me in detail but just didn't have time/energy for that. We ended up handwashing in the tub and stringing up lines to dry. We also had issues with the stove, just because it is so different from the style I'm used to, but staff did help a slight amount - enough to get us only slightly burnt pizza. ;o) When toilet paper was running low, we weren't sure if we were entitled to more. Staff allowed 1 more, but after that we bought from a very local grocery store near the Mansion House tube station. They also did allow us 2 clean towels the day before we left - for which I was really grateful since I hadn't gotten the laundry to work. The kitchen is nicely stocked with plates, cups, silverware, pots/pans. We did expect there to be no a/c and staff did provide 1 fan for our use the first night. We had trouble opening the windows more than a few inches, so the first night was stuffy. But, we found that leaving the windows open during the day for our evening returns helped and the fan was a big help. A 2nd fan would have been even better and would be nice for them to include (you can get one for fee). The location was great for us. Mansion House tube station is a 3 minute walk away and was our main base for transport. We were in walking distance of St. Paul's Cathedral on one side and Shakespeare's Globe theater on the other. Having Domino's Pizza below was great as we always knew we could get a meal there and store leftovers in the fridge if we needed to (and did). The first night or two, there was a lot of street noise, sounded like a pub nearby. We thought, if this is what happens on a weeknight, the weekend is going to be noisy. But, I must say, the noise did not go on late at night and over the weekend was super-quiet. So, there must have been a big game or something those first few nights and all was very bearable since we were so tired from walking/climbing stairs most days that we could have slept through much worse! There seems to be a lot of street-gathering in this area that we weren't used to...when people go to a pub, they get their drink and then head outside to stand with friends and talk outside. We also saw people doing this with their pizzas. Probably felt cooler outside than in. There were several pubs/restaurants in the area. We tried to go to one but somehow missed the dinner hour and they weren't serving. We stayed 6 nights in London and I would definitely consider staying here again if we get the chance to visit the city again. I would pay up for a 2nd fan or travel in a slightly cooler temp time of year. (Okay, I'm from Florida and we like a/c!) The benefits of a nice set of rooms/bath and a great location far outweighed any deficits in a/c or laundry issues. The area felt safe as well. Collapse
