Wonderful apartment with all the necessary to have a great week-end! The location is fantastic, just a few step from the tube station and the chard! Very friendly staff too! I will come back with my family this summer!

The apartment was really spacious, equipped and clean and was ideal for what we wanted. We had a few issues which were as follows. 1. On arrival they take a pre authorisation on your card for £200 whixh we discovered after much wasted time that it was for damages. I was surprised that as they must do this with every customer that the receptionist would have a rehearsed explanation about what it is rather than just expecting that it is OK to hold £200 in someone's account with no explanation. 2. The first night all was fine but in the morning when we were trying to get ready to go out in a hurry we did not have any hot water. It turned out that this was a simple fix and had we have been told on check in, my husband and I wouldn't have had cold showers. 3. The plug in the sink broke and meant that we couldn't drain the used water away. We reported this straight away and asked for it to be fixed but when. We got back in the early hours it was still broken and fill of dirty water. Not pleasant. I would recommend this accommodation for location, price and mostly comfort but the customer service needs work for sure. Collapse

I have stayed here many times over the year on the basis of its location and you do get a lot of space for your money but it has become clear over the last few visits that standards have really dropped. Dirty toilet, bathroom in almost darkness due to lights not working. Communal areas stink of people's cooking. My recent visit was the last. Arrived and after the usual delay to check in (how can a simple check in always take so long?) went to my room. As usual, basic but ok but this time there was no TV signal. Based on other reviews, this looks like its becoming a major problem. No TV at all. Wifi is so slow that you cannot watch anything streaming either so was forced to go out. Was promised it would be fixed next day. It wasn't. The poor woman on reception was completely ill equipped to deal with the plethora of complaints she was trying to manage and she was the only member of staff there. Marlin care nothing for its customers or its staff (probably why they look so miserable). I hate to think what would have happened if anyone had really kicked off. Security definitely a concern. I walked out. I can't even be bothered to try and get a refund on my 2nd night booking. I don't ever want to have to deal with them again. Some places don't deserve to be in business. This is one. Spend your hard earned money somewhere they want you, not just your cash. Collapse

Have stayed at Marlin Apartments - Empire Square every time we have been to London(about 4 times) and each time the apartments we were allocated were smaller. Our last stay was in an apartment facing the street on the first floor, so had street noise and street lights shining into the bedroom. There was no plug for the bath, no plate in the microwave and no hairdryer (which I didn't find out until I had wet hair). Rang reception and they said they'd send one up straight away - waited 20-25minutes and no-one came so rang again. Finally someone came with a small hairdryer. Plugged it in to use and it didn't work! So rang reception again and explained the hairdryer didn't work - waited another 20minutes for another to be sent up. Was quite annoyed by now as all this waiting was cutting into our sightseeing time. Finally guy turns up with a brand new hairdryer. I took this opportunity to ask for the missing microwave plate and bath plug which he did return with. The bedroom in the apartment was very cramped with nowhere to put our bags so had to have them out in the hallway between the kitchen\lounge area which was not very convenient and a safety hazard. I did ask if we could move to a larger apartment and was told there was nothing available today but maybe tomorrow - but never heard any more. We were really disappointed as we enjoyed our first stay here and that's why we had returned several times. Standards and service have dropped it seems. Although it is in a good location it may be time to find another place to stay next time. Collapse

We loved staying at Marlin Empire Square. The room was comfortable and the staff were very kind and helpful. Southwark is a great neighborhood. The tube station is one block away so you have access to the whole city but the area itself is intimate with it's own pubs and a real sense of community. Staying in a touristy area has huge downsides what with noise and expenses. There's a gym downstairs and a supermarket right next door. And it's an apartment. Much better than just a regular hotel.
