Disappointing and definitely not value for money

Missing the little bits that you expect for a room that's £127 per night. Sky box didn't work properly, no hand wash in the bathroom, red splatters on the living room wall and ceiling, curtain partially hanging off the rail and a cheap alternative to a door stopper. Also, couldn't use the sink in bathroom as the plug was stuck in the plug hole. The plus side is it's location and underground parking (£30 per night) and comfortable bed. I could have got better and cheaper in a Travelodge!! It's a pity bit with an update I'd probably give it a 4.5 or 5. I'll be booking elsewhere next time. Collapse
Good location but check in needs some work

Located just a few blocks from London Bridge and a block from the Borough underground station, this is certainly a good location for travelers. My check in experience was not good, but it is important to understand that this is an apartment complex, not a hotel. There are no typical hotel amenities and no daily maid service. But the apartment was spacious, with a full kitchen, and a good value for the area. Collapse

I arrived at the Marlin (after receiving a confirmation email weeks in advance from one of their senior account managers) to be told that the apartment I'd booked was now only available for one night. The receptionist could offer no further help than "speak to my manager in the morning". I was charged for two nights and now have no confirmation that I will have somewhere to stay for my second evening. I am in London on a business trip and it is not appropriate for me to have to turn up at an important meeting tomorrow with my luggage all because the Marlin is atrocious. The business I work for have an agreed corporate rate with the Marlin however it is clear that repeat revenue for long term customers is not important. As it stands I now have nowhere to stay for my second night in London and if I do have to book somewhere else it will be entirely above my set budget. Which no doubt Marlin will not compensate. On a final note, the receptionist didn't even attempt to find me an alternative apartment in one of their other buildings. I will not be staying here again. Disgraceful. Collapse

We were attending summertime festival in Hyde park and we're looking for somewhere reasonable to stay. This place come up via secret escapes and on offer. It was still top end of our budget (even on offer) but for what we paid it was suitable. I wouldn't pay full price. Apartment was clean and came with all necessities. Iron and board, hairdryer, plenty of storage space. Comfortable and homely. Bathroom was ok, but disappointed with the shower. Fixed to the wall and couldn't get all the angles. Collapse

We booked an 11 night stay here after being assured of a room with a balcony and nice view (at the cost of an extra 10 pound per night for the privilege). This was an absolute must for us as this was our first time in London and we wanted to soak in as much of London as much as we could. We were pretty excited!! We had the hotel organise a van transfer from Heathrow airport. They were over half an hour late so we didn't get off to a good start. While the rest of our flight went on their merry way we were left sitting wondering if anyone was coming to pick us up. Very disappointing after a 13 hour flight. On arrival the staff were stressed, unfriendly and disinterested. There were guests complaining on arrival. Check in was slow and disappointing, not what we envisaged for our first ever time in London. We were shoved the keys to our room after being told there we no rooms available on higher floor even though I had requested one. Keep in mind I had booked this months in advance and been told I had the requested view. We went on ahead to our room too tired to argue the point. Got to our room to find no balcony and a view of a concrete wall. So back down we went and had to queue once again. We were then shoved another set of keys and moved to a different room. This brings me to the room itself. I could list every defect but I don't have enough time to do so. In short the bedding and linen was old and unclean and pillows were disgusting. Cutlery, crockery not clean. Curtains with no curtain hooks...I mean literally hanging off the rail and stained with food. I felt like I'd arrived at a backpackers not a '4 star' like they claim. On our third day the en-suite bathroom sink started to smell like sewage. We reported this on our way out in the morning and returned that night to find it not fixed. Could not use this bathroom and had to keep the door shut with the stench. It was absolutely revolting! Reported it once again and after another day of it not being rectified we were shifted to another room on the same floor. Similar issues with this room. Actually it was probably worse. Old food and smoke butts left on the balcony. Ripped curtains, broken fridge door the list goes on and on. The washing machine/dryers are ancient and you need an engineering degree to put on a quick cycle. On our second night in this apartment the same issue with the sewage smell came back in one of the bathrooms. Obviously a plumbing issue on this floor. You may be wondering why on earth we didn't move to other accommodation. Sadly we had booked and paid through Expedia so we didn't have the option to move otherwise we would have lost thousands of dollars. I asked to be moved to another Marlin Apartment complex somewhere else in the city but was told they were fully booked. Funny as online I could see vacancies? On my numerous times down at reception there were many people with similar complaints to ours. We were especially saddened and felt deceived how they use the photo of The Shard but in reality not one person we spoke to actually got that view. The reality is most of the complex is lowrise so getting a decent view is near impossible. I feel that is false advertising. Overall this place has a lot of work to do to bring it up even to a reasonable standard. My advice...stay away! Collapse
