Stayed here for one night mid February. Friendly and informative check in. Pets welcome. Our dog was as special a guest a we were by the way he was treated. Given a bowl of water. Rooms were well decorated and the view of the pier was beautiful. Lunch was reasonably priced and a good varied menu. Dinner was beautiful. Staff informed us well of the menu. A beautiful break by the sea. Well done to all at the marine hotel. Thank you. Collapse

Just returned from a two night break in the marine hotel ballycastle. On arrival a bit of a mix up about certain things! Had been told that deal was 2 nights b&b and one evening meal. However receptionist informed me that deal was two nights b&b and £10 off per person in bistro. Didn't let this put me off. Room comfortable with lovely sea view!. Good enough food in bistro and the waiter/barman Paddy was good craic! Due to visit again in march and had asked about an upgrade?! Not offered at time off booking but hey you never know! A nice hotel and is getting there after being closed for a few years! Collapse

My husband and I stayed here with our Wheaten Terrier on a special offer weekend break which was amazing value for money. The staff were warm, friendly and very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. It is difficult to find a hotel that caters well for dogs but this was perfect for us. We were put in a "dog friendly" room with a balcony at the back of the hotel which was a bit out of the way from other rooms and meant we were not worried about disturbing other guests. Although dogs are understandably not allowed in the bistro/restaurant areas, food can be served in a separate area where your dog can stay with you during meal times. The location of the hotel is perfect for walks along the Promanade and beach. We have no hesitation in recommending the Marine Hotel and will definitely be back for another break in the near future. I think if I had to mention just one good thing about this hotel, it would be the friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was too much bother for them and every request was met with a smile. The room we had was fantastic. It was a suite with a four- poster bed, three seater couch, furnished balcony and jaccuzi bath. It was so spacious. Now the reason I only gave three stars! The carvery lunch was not good. We sat down at the table and placed our order at 2.05pm and were not served our starter until 2.50 pm (the starter was delicious and I recommend the prawns on wheaten bread!) This was a long wait as we had a 1 year old and a 3 year old in our party. The dining room was seriously understaffed and I felt quite sorry for them. The carvery closes at 3 pm so we rushed our starter to make the carvery before 3pm. What a disappointment! The meat was overcooked and dried out. The Yorkshire puddings must have been keeeping warm for more than a hour as they were hard . The only good part was the vegetables which were chunky and had a bit of bite to them. By the time we had finished the main course everything was being cleared up around us so our pudding was a rushed affair that unfortunately did not correspond with the actual menu. A very disappointing and expensive meal that was supposed to be a special treat for us. It was not our fault that there were not enough staff to cope with the numbers having lunch. This problem arose again at breakfast (which stops at 10 am) We arrived shortly after 9am and had to wait in line for over 10 minutes to be seated. There were lots of tables available, just not the staff to take our room number. By this time a longish queue had formed behind us and eventually we were seated. We ordered a fry........ big mistake! The plate was filled with a variety of hard greasy fried breads. It scooted of the plate when I tried to cut it. Again this must have been sitting for sometime to get to this state. The continental breakfast looked much better with a good selection of nuts, berries, honey and yogurts. Other problems were with out table that kept table that kept wobbling and the difficulty we encountered in trying tp get a pot of tea and a jug of milk. After asking and asking, the tea eventually arrived but we had almost finished our fry by this time. (well the bits of it that we could eat) Now we had the tea but no jug of milk! Eventually we found a boy that was clearing tables and washing up to speak to and although he told us it was not his job, he kindly went to the kitchen for us and brought us a jug of milk. The only quibble I had with the room was with the bath. The mechanism to empty the bath was broken and I had to call reception as I had just had a bath and my husbant now wanted one. Within minutes a lovely young boy arrive but after 25 minutes and getting more tools realised he was unable to fix it. (and got his shirt wet in the process!) He called out the maintainance man who had finished work for the day and was at home. Full marks for prompt service. He arrive within 10 minutes and had it fixed within 35 minutes. Excellent service but not very relaxing for us. This was supposed to be a special break and we had been looking forward to it so much. The hotel has a fantastic situation with a great view. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was luxurious. It should have been great ... but it wasn't! This has the potential to be an excellent hotel. The staff are the best part of it ......... it is just that more are needed! Collapse
