We were at Marina club several days in July. The pool area is never cleaned from what we saw. Sun beds are dirty. The staff who work in the bar are great - George and Anna in particular but very overworked with little time to see to the detail of tables/umbrellas/cleaning - although not their fault! We ordered lunch but after chasing several times for sandwiches waited one and a half hours! We didn't order again and went elsewhere! The place is looking tired and needs keeping up to but little chance with so few staff! Been here 3 years running - this will be our last! Collapse

Just back from 7 nights in three bedroom apartment .Lovely spacious apartment with fantastic views of marina and pool .Pool area is lovely but at this time of year very busy and sun beds are hard to get .Bar prices are very reasonable.Outside terrace area around bar could do with a very good tidy up .Weeds growing around it and walls badly in need of a painting. While we were there no seat covers were put on outside seating in bar area for three days .You would think if they were been washed they would have replacements..They are just small things but annoying as if you seen weeds growing around your own patio area you would pick up .You cannot beat location of marina club and we will definitely return but hopefully a bit of TLC will go into complex Collapse

We have recently returned from a two week holiday in Lagos, staying in the Marina Club Lagos. I was a little apprehensive when we arrived having seen some poor reviews of this hotel, but in our opinion there was absolutely no need to be. We had a fantastic holiday and if we come back to Lagos, will definitely stay there again. The hotel was spotlessly clean, this included the communal areas, pool area and the rooms. Maids came every day to make up your beds and if needed the towels were changed also. Staff in the hotel were really helpful although some on the reception desk were more helpful than others. If we had an unhelpful response from one (ie not resolving our issue to our satisfaction) then we quickly learned which of the staff we could ask who would. An example of this is that the hotel literature states that the TVs in the room are available in lots of languages including English. We were keen to see the news and so asked at reception. The first member of staff we spoke to said the they had never managed to get English channels. However as it is in their literature we did not think that was correct, so went back later that night when the staff had changed over - and sure enough the gentleman we spoke to then said he would send one of the maintenance staff to assist. The following day we had both BBC and Sky news and a range of other programmes. Then of course there is George in the bar - he is brilliant, a real asset to this hotel. He is very welcoming, knowledgeable and makes the experience in the bar great fun. But I have to say that all the staff in the bar and restaurant gave great customer service. We didn't eat in the restaurant for an evening meal as we thought the menu was a little limited and we preferred to look for more traditional Portuguese food. However we did have several salads lunchtime that were very inexpensive and really lovely. There are reviews on here which show photos of scruffy sun loungers and I would agree that there are a few of those. But the vast majority are not. Our only criticism of the pool area (which is probably true of most holiday hotels) is that far too many sun loungers are reserved by people leaving towels on them for hours on end. There is a policy on this which I only saw displayed in the Spa area, which states that these towels will be removed to free up the loungers for other guests. This did not happen and we saw loads of "reserved loungers" which were empty for hours, whilst other guests either lay on the grass or sat on the tables in the bar area. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. When we booked the only rooms that were available were those with a land view. These rooms are cheaper, but I would say that if we return we would pay the extra for the pool/marina view. Our side of the building had full sun all day, which meant that it was hot in the morning to sit out to eat our breakfast and not a very attractive view if we wanted a night cap on our balcony. Before leaving we obtained a copy of the hotel's room price list and found that had we booked direct with the hotel then the pool/marina view rooms were the same price as we had paid for a land view through an operator! Great stay at this hotel, would definitely use again. Collapse
