My wife and i returned to the MO for a much needed mini break. It had been a couple of years since we last stayed here and we both agreed it has improved beyond its already high standard. This hotel exudes understated elegance and refinement. From the moment you are checked into your room ( within your room) you are made to feel that this is your 'home' and nothing is too much trouble. We enjoyed time around the chic pool and my wife experienced another wonderful treatment at the spa. The food at the MO is exceptional. The Sala Rim Naam restaurant is wonderful. We sat outside and dined on brilliant thai food with attentive service. Excellent value too. On the second night we attended the most glamorous General Managers cocktail party of any hotel we have stayed at. It was refined and relaxed and the array of food and drinks superb. We were fortunate to chat with Mayuree ( Guest relations manager ) and Greg ( GM). They are fabulous hosts and made us feel even more welcome ( if thats possible). Everything at the Mandarin Oriental is close to perfection. From the sultry Bamboo bar through to the limousine service...every touchpoint is memorable. My wife and i sat by the pool trying to work out how long we could live at the Mandarin Oriental...its that good ! The mark of a truly great hotel is how effortless they make the delivery of exceptional customer service seem. The Mandarin Oriental is the best we have experienced. Collapse

Looks like an Heritage property strategically located besides Chopraya river. Excellent place to stay if you like do a river cruise and visit key land marks in Bangkok including the flower market. It’s a quaint property with spacious rooms and good view. The service is the best I have ever experience, the moment you put your forks and spoons down - they come and change the plate. Royal treatment from lobby to room. Worth the stay. Collapse

It was an incredible experience staying here on the eve of the Royal Cremation for the late King Bhumibol Adulyade. What an honour to be at this amazing riverside location, a few stops from the Royal Palace, on this significant and sad time in Thailand’s history. We were surrounded by many dignitaries attending the event, however, my overriding memory was of how this hotel was concerned to give all guests, the very best experience possible. Our stay at the Mandarin Oriental will stay with me for a long time as a shining example of how to treat everyone to the same great hotel experience whether you are royalty or a little Wren! Given that the Mandarin Oriental was one of the official hotels selected to accommodate delegations attending the funeral, it was a slightly unusual stay. The river and the hotel had plenty of military personnel, I finished my last Ohmm in the early morning free (and wonderful!) yoga class, to open my eyes, to see reflected in the glass the sports foyer full of men in military uniform wearing lots of medals. We cannot fault the service of the staff, who were attentive and keen to ensure that where we faced disruptions that we were well looked after. Given the hotel was in virtual lockdown as guests came and went to the funeral we were offered as late a check out as we needed. At one point there was clearly a problem with a guest smoking (over a prolonged duration) on our non-smoking floor. We were invited to a complimentary lunch and our friends staying a second night were upgraded and moved to another floor. The House Manager Khun Worawee and his team are to be commended I would go as far as saying this is Customer Service at its very finest. I am a regular as a visitor to the Mandarin Oriental but this is the first time I have stayed here, our last stay on the river was at the Peninsula Hotel opposite. I was interested to see what I felt the differences were. I would give the Peninsula the edge in terms of standards of rooms, I really feel in some aspects the Mandarin Oriental is due for a renovation, but it is a winner with its service. Our room was lovely, a huge comfy King bed, a basket of fruit which was changed daily, free and very good WiFi, beautiful toiletries, some lovely tea and two packets of instant coffee! What? Where does instant coffee fit in a room that costs so much? I am informed that hopefully soon they will be introducing a coffee machine in each room. Our room faced down the river towards the Royal Palace, and at the moment on the opposite side of the river it is a big building site. Having seen the suite room with an amazing view towards the Peninsula Hotel this is clearly the view to have at this time. We ate several meals at the hotel given that other than the easy river transport, leaving the hotel was not easy. We had two nice dinners at the Verandah Bar, a lovely (free) Thai Buffet lunch on their site on the opposite side of the river, and a phenomenal riverside breakfast. The Authors Lounge was unfortunately booked out solidly for three days so sadly we did not get to enjoy the afternoon tea but I can report that the gym was excellent. This is a hotel stay that we will be talking about for the rest of our lives! Thank you so much, Khun Worawee and the team. Collapse
Still a Gem but needs just a bit of polishing.

Mandarin Oriental In its long history so much has already been written about the Mandarin Oriental and yet like all great institutions there is still more to say. We took a taxi from the airport and had no troubles. Once at the hotel we were greeted by the staff with a flower bracelet and taken straight to our room. Check-in happened in our room and before we had finished signing the luggage was already there. I do wish the desk staff would have pointed out where the coffee maker was ~ we did not find it until our last day. The cappuccino in the riverside restaurant almost made up for the hidden coffee maker. Our room on the 9th floor had an amazing river view. The beds were very comfortable~ perfect after a long flight. The bathroom was good size and well-equipped with lots of towels. However, like so many hotel bathrooms the light was dim in the bathroom. The desk had fittings for charging computers and phones; however, none of our’s worked. So we used regular outlets. Housekeeping left fresh fruits daily and flowers with poetic sayings at night. There was supposed to be a butler on our floor. Other guests we met spoke of their floor butler knocking on the door and introducing himself. During our 4 day say we never saw any sign of a butler on our floor. Perhaps if we had some of the “kinks” could have been worked out of our visit. As a side note the carpets on our floor could use some cleaning. There are two pools. One is smaller and shallower with a good view of the river. The 2nd pool is deeper and big enough for lap swimming . The pool staff is very attentive ~ bringing cool water and extra towels as needed. There are suncreens available for use if you forget yours. A spa credit came with our room and we used the credit to book massages at the hotel spa. What a treat after a long flight. I got the jet lag massage. It was heavenly. It took all of the kinks out! The spa deserves its reputation as one of the world’s best. The spa and gym are located on the other side of the river - a 5 min boat ride away. The boats go back forth all day so there is no problem. The river view restaurant has a wonderful breakfast buffet. Again, the staff is attentive without being obtrusive. The food is wonderful ~ some asian/thai and some western. Watching the boats along the river is a relaxing way to start the day. There is a water taxi stand just a short walk- maybe a half of a block ~from the hotel. This is an inexpensive and fun way to get around and see some of the sights. The Bamboo bar is a great way to spend an evening . Cynthia Utterbach performed while we were there and she was a talented delight. Just get there early if you want a table inside. The Mandarin is a beautiful hotel . I would recommend walking around the grounds and areas such as the Author’s wing . I realize some of my comments may sound picky but the Mandarin Oriental is and should be held to a higher standard than a mere hotel. What truly sets the Mandarin Oriental apart is not its history but it’s the incredible staff. From the valets to housekeeping to the concierges they show how their job should be done. A special shout out to the concierge staff. Their recommendations, directions, and advice were all spot on. When booking us a reservation for dinner, they even informed the restaurant of a special event we were celebrating without our reminding them. I have seen some reviews say the staff could be snooty. We saw no sign of that ~ in fact just the opposite. No hotel is perfect, but the Mandarin Oriental comes pretty darn close. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can not wait to return. Thank you Mandarin Oriental. Collapse

Don't think there is more to add. I've stayed 4 days and I was looked after very well. The breakfast supervisor was impeccable. I've ordered my first morning soya milk coffee and from then on the coffee was served as I was taking my seat each morning. Floor butlers were amazing too always there to help with anything. They serve you a blooming ice-cream while in the pool area. Room was always clean and things were put together nicely. A bit pricey but worth every penny. loved it Collapse
