I live in Singapore and always enjoy coming to the Mandarin Oriental for the dining options and overall feel of the hotel. However, with the recent F1 race (and every other year) they made a mistake by charging a $55 fixed fee ($67 after midnight) for their preferred taxi partner. As the F1 blocks their normal access road to the hotel the taxis now have to drive via an underground detour to the lobby. Not an issue but by not providing clear directions and only allowing limo taxis from Comfort Delgro to park nearby, most guests have no choice but to accept this ridiculous fare. Similarly, as with the Ritz-Carlton next door, it takes a long time to direct another taxi for a normal fare ($10-$15) to the lobby. Surely they can be more accommodating for future F1 events. We stayed for 4 nights in August with our 6 month old baby. Check in was quick and easy (no waiting) which was appreciated after flying in from Australia. As others have mentioned the hotel can appear dated in certain aspects. The room certainly isn't cutting edge but it is extremely clean and well maintained. We were in a Marina Bay View Room on the 15th floor which had the most amazing view. The main drawcard for booking this hotel was the large pool with cabanas and booking a room with a view. We weren't disappointed on either front. The room was larger than I expected and a cot was set up for our baby. This was tucked in beside the bed but had wheels so you could change the position. We took to sliding it into the darker hallway next to the bathroom in the evenings so our baby could sleep and we could hang out in the room and not feel we were disturbing her. We used the pool daily and were lucky enough to get a cabana majority of the time. This was perfect with a baby as she could lie out and play around in the shade. When it came to feeding time we could close the curtains for some privacy. The staff at the pool area were super friendly, chilled water was always delivered as well as extra items such as small smoothies, icipoles periodically. The pool menu left a lot to be desired. For small bites there was only 3 items - chips, fried chicken pieces and bruschetta. Otherwise it was pizzas and salads plus heavier items similar to the room service menu. Our meals at the pool were very disappointing - margarita pizza was on a heavy base (almost like a freezer bought one) and completely over laden with cheese to the point you couldn't pick the slices up. Another day I ordered a Caesar salad which was almost inedible. It seemed like it had been made a day before, the leaves were soggy and completely drenched in dressing, croutons soggy, tiny pieces of bacon and chicken which was dried up and hard. I cannot even believe someone put this in a bowl and thought it was ok to serve. To make matters worse you are paying top dollar. I couldn't be bothered complaining at the time which I regret. Room service was much better. Breakfast every morning was amazing and we had a few other meals also. The pricing was definitely on the high side. Staff all around were fantastic. From room service to concierge everyone was so friendly and especially loved trying to crack a smile from our daughter. We struggled to choose between this and the Park Royal on Pickering (which we ended up staying at for 2 nights at the end of the trip). Mandarin is more baby friendly and has the better view. Better location for some things (Gardens by the bay) others not so much. The immediate area seems very sterile and there is no-one about. Pickering has a more vibrant location and I'm sure if we didn't have a baby in tow there would be lots of places nearby to head out to in the evening. Mandarin service was better and more all encompassing than Pickering. Pool service, bottles of water and umbrellas when leaving hotel, just all the small touches which make a difference. Pickering was busier and didn't have those small touches. Check in concierge always seemed crazy busy with a line, elevators slow, ringing bell for service at pool. The only other thing to mention is age MRT station isn't super close - probably a 10 minute walk. All in all Mandarin was a great choice with a baby. Collapse

Not for everyone's budget but a great place to stay. This was our 5th stay here. We have had two sorts of rooms, looking over the Marina Bay area or out towards the sea. I would not like to say which is best as they both are. There may be other rooms over looking parts of the city but we have never had experience of them. This is a busy hotel and lots of comings and goings. The reception may be a bit busy but we have never had to wait very long and mostly got immediate attention. Staff are very pleasant and make you feel welcome Access to the rooms is by one of 6 lifts which run up the outside of a central tower in the middle of the hotel. Those who suffer from vertigo might want to look at the lift door. The rooms are of a generous size with a large double bed. All the expected facilities inc TV,mini bar and, importantly, some complimentary water. The bathroom has a large shower as well as double wash basin and bath. There is a venetian blind to separate the large window between the bathroom and the room if this is needed. For eating an drinking there is the Club Lounge in the evening which has views over the Marina Bay area to the city. Also the Melt Cafe (vast buffet catering for all tastes), Morton Bar and Steakhouse. The Cherry Garden (closed at our visit) and the poolside Dolce Vita by the pool. The later is outside and often gets a pleasant breeze to combat the hot and humid weather. Due to the hotel being full we spent a pleasant 3 hours here early afternoon before our flight. Several tables have views over the Marina Bay area. Watch for White Bellied Sea Eagles from here or your room especially late afternoon. There is reasonable access to several of the sites inc the Gardens By The Bay and Raffles Hotel. With the latter you can access part of the way through the near by shopping mall (air con!). This is accessed via a rather inconspicuous doorway to the right (as you leave) of the hotel building as you. If you don't want to walk there are normally plenty of taxis on hand. We would certainly come back to this hotel when staying in Singapore. Collapse

We stayed here for one night on a stopover from Perth to the Maldives. The hotel is in a great location. We booked a standard room as we had very little time there, still it was lovely. Very spacious, comfy bed and big bathroom, we also had a great view of the city. The staff were good and they knew we were on our honeymoon and they decorated the bed and left a bottle of fizz in the room. We didn't have breakfast but had dinner in the buffet restaurant which was brilliant!!nWould certainly stay here again and hopefully longer than 1 night! Collapse
