I booked for a four day New Years holiday weekend a month in advance. I was told I'd get no dinner as they were booked for New Year's. As a good client and travel agent that forwards numerous clients, I'd been upgraded to an executive suite 203 at peak season in June 2015. It's shocking how much a hotel can fall down in a few months. No doorman, doormat crammed sideways in the door, no concierge, very poor checkin, no baggage help, no explanations as to directions, wifi or breakfast times, room so very disappointing. I'm one to look for the best in everything but this was truly two star service with many untrained new staff or people just brought in for the week. I was overcharged on restaurant tabs, which management did correct. I ate all alone standing in the wine cellar for New Year's Eve. I asked if a stool could PLEASE be brought--none offered. The music and celebrations were very non celebratory as well. I could not even get waited on for a drink. I'm afraid I won't be able to send clients in the future. It has five star prices and two star attitude. The train station and bus stations are just across the way for a quick exit. Collapse

We stayed at the Malton for two nights over the new year. Everything about it was good. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room very comfortable and the food excellent. The New Years Eve dinner was seriously good considering the amount of people served. Breakfast was very good and an omelette was provided for my husband each morning even though not on the menu. The music to welcome the New Year was a bit lifeless I thought, the only complaint I could make. I shall return. Collapse

Beautiful building and communal spaces, many many great communal spaces, stayed in 381, family room, beautiful, double and single beds were in same room. Bathroom was big with separate walk in shower and freestanding bath. The Christmas tree in the room was a lovely touch, great to have a balcony with views of the main house too. The building is steeped in history. Bar was great, friendly staff and other guests! They have a whiskey and wine tasting rooms too. Breakfast was also good and the lovely gentleman seating us knew our room number, made us feel very welcome! One area for improvement is the room service, it appears to be limited to the punchbowl bar food which whilst good, is limited in choice. That wouldn't put me off staying again though, hopefully the room service choices will increase by the next visit! Collapse

Stayed a couple of days in Killarney, Ireland at the Malton Hotel. First time staying at this particular hotel. Arrived early evening and found the car park full. Had to park on yellow lines just outside hotel while I checked in. Check in was fast and efficient. Receptionist explained that the car park is run by separate company from hotel (???) and will be charged to bill as a daily rate. She took my car registration number and I was told it would be fine on the yellow lines. I was a bit nervous on this. Anyway, the room was good size, clean and heating was on full blast. Overall comfortable if not a little dated decor. We had dinner in the bar which was excellent. Service was really good and above normal bar food standard cuisine. The following morning I moved my car to a vacated parking space presumably wedding guests had checked out early. Positives. Location to the town is great. Staff service is excellent. I've stayed at more expensive hotels and not had the service standard that I got at the Malton. Congrats to all the staff on this point. Food was also very good. No complaints on this front. Negatives. As mentioned by other reviewers, the car parking arrangement is slightly off putting and confusing. I didn't mind paying the nominal parking fee but I got the impression it's a public car park shared with the hotel. In summary, very nice hotel made by the staff service performance. Needs to resolve its car park situation during peak times. Recommended stay location for Killarney. Collapse
