We stayed at malibu park hotel for 1 week at the beginning of August and were disappointed from start to finish. We were so surprised as the hotel had pretty good reviews, however, when staying here we realised this was because people had upgraded and that we were staying in 'a studio apartment'. We checked in and we're advised it would be €15 (Non refundable) for a key to the safe in our room, which I would deem a necessity when abroad, so reluctantly paid. We were given a map and shown where our room was on it then left to find our room by ourselves- this proved to be difficult as it was midday, very hot and our room was located at the other side of the hotel, nobody was able to help with our luggage. When arriving at our room we discovered it was very very dated and a lot things required some TLC (see pictures). There was no air con in our room and later proved impossible to sleep. We went back to reception straight away and the man said he could get us a fan for €100 the next day! After refusing to pay steep fee, we asked if we could pay for an upgrade as we weren't happy with our room and it was not up to standard we expected when booking, we were told it was 'impossible' to upgrade as the hotel was fully booked. We went back to our room and tried to cope with the heat and spent as little time there as possible as it was so tired and old looking. That night at 1am in the morning it was unbearable and I went to reception again to ask for a fan. A different man who spoke no English gave me a fan and asked for €15 from me, I paid it in desperation and this contradiction in price only left me confused to the actual price and how they could have the audacity to attempt to charge me over x6 the price only a few hours earlier. There were no where near enough sun beds to cater for the people around the pool, causing people to queue from early morning and wait for them to be unchained. People were even reserving umbrellas first thing by wrapping their towels around them which I found unfair. So we payed to go into other hotels to use their facilities as they were much nicer and there was music etc. We paid for a studio apartment which had a cooker, a kettle and toaster. There was no microwave and we did not end up cooking anything as we didn't feel the kitchen was clean enough. There were constantly ants on the kitchen work tops and they were chipped and dirty. On check out we felt the man was very brief with us as we handed our keys over, seeming not bothered by the thought of us I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all and feel a lot of the excellent reviews have been written based on people being put in the new refurbished apartments (which I feel is down to luck). Sun beds ordered but did not come in the 15 days we were there. Staff all brill very friendly. Room old but fine beds very comfy. Need a fan in room it's roasting. Room had faults nails from previous guests in bedroom and bathroom still there when we left. No shade or clothes dryer on balcony. Food and drinks good at the pool bar. Not much going off at night around complex area we walked out to the beach or middle area for food. Spent 75 euros on beach Sun beds when we couldn't get Sun beds around pool. Going home tired due to early morning sunbed run Collapse

We visited the hotel in July/August following the positive reviews on trip advisor. We arrived at the hotel around 12 noon. Our apartment was not ready and we were told to come back at 2pm (understandable). The reception staff were welcoming and helpfully showed us where we could store our luggage. They also gave us some bottles of water, which was a nice touch and much appreciated. We went for lunch and returned after 2pm. Our apartment was still not ready and we waited for around another 45 minutes. Again not too much of a problem. Although the kids were by now becoming impatient. When we went in to our apartment and immediately you could see it had not been cleaned. The floors were dirty and had long black hairs over it (not my hair, I am. Blonde). I immediately went to reception. I could not ring as the number is not written down in the rooms? I explained and the gentleman said he would get someone to clean it. A cleaner came in with a dry mop (no bucket of water) and cleaned a small square in the lounge area. I asked her to clean the rest of the apartment floors but she ignored me and left. I then walked back to reception and said it needed to be cleaned. I wiped the floor in the bathroom with a tissue (to show reception the dirt). I also noted the bed sheets were not clean. Again full of black hairs and dirt. I also took the top sheet off to show him. In the meantime reception had rung our room and told my husband that the cleaner had said she had cleaned and the floors were wet. This was not the case. We said we were going to the pool and expected our room to be cleaned. When we returned they had mopped the floors and had changed the sheet I took to reception. This level of cleaning was the same for 10 days. Each day we did receive clean towels (positive). This was it. Nothing else was cleaned, not the floors, the sides, bathroom etc. Over the 10 days I went back to reception to ask for the apartment to be cleaned but this did not happen. I know that other guests experienced the same issue. We paid for an upgraded room. However, our room was definitely not refurbished in 2012 as advertised. It did have a sea view and safe. However, people in the room next to us had paid less than we did. I did not feel this was worth the additional 100e I paid to be upgraded. I feel I was ripped off by the hotel in them taking an additional 100e to be given a standard room. People who did have the upgraded rooms told us that their apartments were absolutely lovely. If you do go to this hotel insist on a room facing the pool (I think these are the better standard of apartment). On the positive the pool area was nice and was kept clean. The lifeguards were friendly. The down side to the pool is that there are nowhere near enough sun beds or umbrellas to go around. The beds are locked up at night. This results in you having to get outside by 8am and then wait until 9ish (changed every day) for a lifeguard to come and unlock the beds. It felt like survival of the fittest. Obviously not everyone got beds. This felt undignified and does not help you 'relax' on holiday. As a result of this we only spent 2 days out of the 10 in the hotel. It just wasn't worth the effort. Everyone was unhappy about this including guests and residents (some of the apartments are lived in all year round by both Spanish and British). The apartments are in a quiet area. However, there is no air conditioning and therefore you have to sleep with windows open (there are bars at the window). The corridors are loud and you can hear a lot of noise in the other apartments. One night my husband and I were woken up around 4am. It sounded like there was a domestic going on in another apartment. We were lucky enough to be given a fan to use. This was used where the children slept. The first one stopped working and the man in reception was kind enough to give us the one from reception. The apartments are over the road from Aqualand - this is handy. You can walk into the main strip in the evening. We found you need to get a taxi back due to the hill. This cost between 3-5e. Overall we made the most of our holiday and did not allow the cleanliness etc. to get us down. We would not return. We would like to thank the reception staff who did try to resolve problems and remained professional. Unfortunately his efforts did not filter through to the cleaning staff. I have included a picture of my feet from walking around in the apartment without shoes on. Collapse

On arriving at Malibu park, we were greeted by a receptionist who wasted no time in telling us that our apartment was under construction and not ready for us, so we would be moved to another hotel in a different part of the island. When reading the reviews for the proposed hotel we were horrified to find that the most recent reviews explained not only were the rooms infested with cockroaches, but that there had been a continuing issues with burglaries. It was not until after a lot of debating, upset and our refusal to move hotels that magically the manager was able to find a spare apartment for us. Although this was the outcome we desired, we were made to feel guilty by the manager who explained that us staying in the apartment would be with the consequence that other guests of the hotel would be expected to move. I have since seen that other guests have indeed experienced this treatment on arrival, a process which is completely unfair and very unprofessional. Although we were satisfied with our room, the fact we had been treated in such a way left us feeling like unwelcome guests for the duration of our stay. It seems the treatment of customers has differed, many receiving free upgrades to the newly refurbished suites whilst others are told they'll be going elsewhere...not great! The apartment itself was fine for what we needed, a good size with all necessary cooking utensils and a lovely balcony. The housekeepers were great, beds were made and fresh towels provided daily. We did not use the splash bar facilities so can not comment on it. However our main reasoning for not purchasing from the bar was because we ended up going down to the beach as the alternative was often to lie on the floor by the pool. This was due to the lacking number of sun loungers. Although there are signs advising that sun lounges are not to be reserved, people are insistent upon queuing up to put their towels on them, before disappearing for hours. One of the life guards did a great job of ensuring towels were removed from the sunbeds if people were not in the pool area for long periods of time. But it seems to be an ongoing issue which needs addressing at the hotel. The experience we had was a shame as the complex itself was nice, in a great location to the beach and Siam park etc. I feel there needs to be more organisation with regards to ensuring that rooms are going to be ready for customers arrivals. These problems seemingly have occurred due to the refurbishment of the apartments and I have no doubt all the rooms will be great once completed. However these situations that are occurring during the refurbishment are not good enough when people are paying a lot of hard earned money on a holiday. Collapse
