This hotel is well-located, just inside the city walls. The city center is small and everything is easily walkable from here. There is a tightly packed car park underneath. We arrived early and the staff kept our luggage while we did things around the city. They issued us wifi passwords then and they worked fine in the lobby. However, we were unable to get wifi at all in our room. We called several times to no avail. It appeared to be an issue with the wifi point on our floor, but the staff refused to believe it and just kept giving us different log ins. This was actually the worst wifi we had in all of Ireland, including north and south, east and west, and tiny B and Bs as well as hotels. The other issue with this hotel is the gym was only open 9 am to 7 pm. It's not clear what group of clients this gym could serve with these hours. Collapse

Lets start with very clean very tidy good location yada yada yada, but its an overpriced travel lodge. The rooms we're very basic the the whole place quite drab, the saving grace ...... staff. Catherine on my arrival could not have been anymore helpful and accommodating, great member of staff and on e you need to keep. Chris in the bar run off his feet but still managed excellent service and a chat to a lonely business traveller. I would not return as the value for money aspect really just isn't there and even though my company pays, still not. The Lyric bar is great though, great food and beer good craic. Collapse

The hotel is nicely decorated and the staff are very friendly. The food was very nice and I didn't have to wait long for my order. I don't believe there was a vegan option on the bar menu though and it was a limited choice for me as a vegetarian. The room was very spacious and the bed was comfy. Couldn't complain about anything other finding a few little hairs in the bath. There's limited parking but it's secure. I would stay here again. Collapse

We had two separate bookings at the Maldron before and after a trip to the west of Ireland. On both occasions we had rooms of good size which were quiet, clean and comfortable. The welcome was good and the receptionist spent some time telling us about the hotel and its facilities. There is a good choice of cooked food for breakfast (which is buffet style, in the hotel restaurant) but very few items for their 'continental' style. We had dinner in the hotel's bar which was very good when it finally arrived. The hotel's location is excellent as it sits within Derry city walls and is therefore well-placed for all the sights of interest and activities. We were unsure about the claim that this is the only hotel within the city walls, however, as we saw at least another two. Arrival for the first booking was at about 7.30pm on a Sunday. The receptionist assured us that the restaurant was open until 9pm so we didn't feel there was a need to hurry to find a table for two, so we unpacked and sauntered down. However, while the restaurant didn't look busy in any way, the staff told us they were seating reservations only; we would therefore have to look elsewhere. Why couldn't the receptionist have mentioned this? It cost us time which could have been better spent looking for an alternative. We decided that the only alternative was the hotel's 'Lyric' bar which luckily also seemed not to be very busy. When we tried to place an order for food, however, we were told that the kitchen was too busy and they couldn't take any orders for 30 minutes. By now we were getting a little desperate - it was Sunday and likely to be 9pm before we could even place an order (the time we had been told the kitchen closed). Nevertheless, when the meal did arrive it was very good and at reasonable cost. Our second stay coincided with a coach party. They took breakfast from 7am but when we arrived an hour later many items had not been replenished. Indeed, we were told that some items had been completely exhausted. I suppose that the coach party must have come as a surprise that couldn't be catered for! Another issue was that at breakfast time, a 'continental' style meal was offered but we didn't feel their was adequate choice for this. Indeed, all plates of a size you might select were warm or hot - not the best for a slice or two of cold ham and some cheese. Collapse
