We only stayed a couple of nights whilst returning our son to uni. The hotel is in a lovely, peaceful part of the city but only about a five minute drive from the centre. The staf were friendly, polite and helpful from beginning to end. We only had breakfast in the hotel, because we had made prior arrangements, but that was delicious. Next time we look forward to trying a lunch or evening meal. We did enjoy a nightcap in the bar where my husband was spoilt for choice with the array of whisky. Collapse

Not a good place to study for exams or to even be at; compared to many other better options in Aberdeen. Everything at this excuse for a hotel took forever to happen. From waiting on food when ordered, to queuing at reception. Staff seemed to wander aimlessly around as though they were in a trance. Distracted due to noisy wedding and given a room at the same part of hotel (when I had asked for a quiet room in advance). No desk as requested, just a narrow glass dressing table with distracting full view mirror. Desk light (specifically asked for) didn’t work. Constant noise of grass cutting outside window (no view). Was told that I would be upgraded to a “suite” when booking 'due to hotel being quiet and that it was stated on voucher'. Reality was that it was not a “suite” but apparently a “junior suite” (according to person with clipboard – see below). Reality was an underwhelming smallish room with bed that was not even long enough to stop my feet from sticking out (I'm not even that tall). After a half hour wait, a miserable excuse of a “cream tea” with coffee that tasted like dishwater, two tiny pancakes and two hard small scones (after being told the evening before, that I would get brown bread sandwiches etc (staff confusion with afternoon tea apparently – and not included in price!). Was assured that I would be given a 3 course meal within the voucher price. Reality was having to pay extra addition for even a two course meal - due to exceeding an apparent price cap of £30 (not given this information beforehand). Voucher menu was also suddenly unavailable at restaurant. Fobbed off by female with a clipboard (who sat down with me when my cream tea had finally arrived - but she didn’t introduce herself, state her position or even give her name). She did listen to my complaints, but without any apology or much concern. No customer focus, just continually defensive that anything could possibly be wrong. She firstly stated that it did not say “suite” on voucher. She then got voucher and agreed that it did state “suite” but that it “wasn’t actually a suite, it was a junior suite”. She then gave me the impression not to expect much as it was a voucher and did not accept any blame for the confusion and my negative experiences. She stated that the person who booked it was "nothing to do with them, and they were not actually even in Aberdeen". I stated to her that the person who booked it was actually in Aberdeen (as I had a full discussion with him at the time). After wasting my time for 45 minutes waiting on the miserable 'cream tea' I was then offered a sandwich as compensation (as well as the price of a desk light that I purchased from Argos). Is this really the best you can do? I did not take this offer up due to what would have probably been another half hour wait for a sandwich. None of my expectations were met, and why do guests have to go for breakfast by 9.30am in 2017 (or pay £21.50 for room service)? This was £200 for a truly terrible overall experience. Not recommended in my opinion (and I won’t even mention the price of £6.50 for a single malt whisky!). Collapse

This is a beautiful hotel, full of charm and character. It's a short taxi ride from the centre. Dinner and breakfast were great and really enjoyed drinks in the bar area which is really authentic looking, it's like taking a step back in time to the Victorian days. Would definitely stay again, this hotel is similar in style to the Ardoe House hotel in the area. But no leisure facilities unfortunately. If I want something different to the modern type hotels, this is definitely one to consider. Collapse

I have stayed at Norwood Hall on several occasions and enjoy very much the setting of the estate and the Victorian style house. The rooms (executive) are large and well equipped. Some of the rooms suffer from wear and should be refreshed. The restaurant and bar are important parts of the hotels character and you can enjoy a drink and a good meal in pleasant surroundings. Service is variable from very good to so so and some of the staff is obviously not very experienced. Lately, I have observed several new faces which probably does not help. Long term staff is generally speaking professional and very helpful. The menu has been the same for some time so does not encourage repeat visits. Breakfast is at times horrendously slow and for this reason I resorted to self provided breakfast in my room. Wifi and telephone communication is not up to the standard you expect. Although much is right the presence of many weddings is detrimental to the ordinary guests when you suddenly find the restaurant is not available having been occupied by wedding guest. This policy is hard to understand as you would have expected returning guests should be assured of all the normal hotel facilities? Collapse
