We only stayed a couple of nights whilst returning our son to uni. The hotel is in a lovely, peaceful part of the city but only about a five minute drive from the centre. The staf were friendly, polite and helpful from beginning to end. We only had breakfast in the hotel, because we had made prior arrangements, but that was delicious. Next time we look forward to trying a lunch or evening meal. We did enjoy a nightcap in the bar where my husband was spoilt for choice with the array of whisky. Collapse

This is a very fine hotel situated 10 minutes from Aberdeen city centre. It is surrounded by lovely woodland. The hotel has character and charm and original features and paintings dating back centuries. The hotel has a lot of history and the staff are very knowledgeable. We were really impressed with the warm and friendly welcome from Joanne on reception. The open fire in reception, in the hall and also in the dining room are a lovely touch. The food was fantastic. Breakfast had a choice of continental, ham, cheese, fruit juices, yogurt, cereals and the full Scottish breakfast was a terrific start to the day. Evening meals were superb. I loved the steak, salmon and the lamb which were cooked to perfection. Well done chef and a special mention to Katerina our waitress. Our room was huge and tastefully decorated. Plenty of toiletries, super comfy bed and fabulous shower and bathroom. We would personally like to thank Mohammed and Hannah for making our stay more enjoyable. The hotel is also dog friendly which was an added bonus. We will definitely return and would not hesitate in recommending to our family and friends. Collapse

Was looking for something special but reasonably priced for a relaxing weekend in a building of character. To be fair we got a special rate which made it reasonably priced. Rack rate would put it in the expensive category in my view. From calling to make a reservation to checking out and everything in between the service was excellent. The reception, bar and restaurant are beautiful and presented in original condition, retaining the original character of the rooms. Food was excellent and reasonably priced although the mixers in the bar seemed overpriced at £2.50 for a small diet coke bottle, bringing the cost of a gin and tonic and a vodka and coke to £14.50. Wine for the meal was more average, starting at £22 for a bottle. Our room was very spacious, immaculately clean and very nicely decorated, with a generously sizedensuite with both both shower and bath. I think the hotel has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment and the room we had was faultless and modern. Located on the outskirts of Aberdeen, clearly Aberdeen is easily accessible, as are Central Scotland and East Coast locations. Members of David Lloyd who want to work off the excesses of hotel food and wine will be pleased to know there is a beautiful new large club only about a quarter of a mile away from the hotel. We particularly liked the original features of the hotel building, the service, food and room. Least liked the bar prices, which is a Macdonald Group group criticism rather than specific to this location. Collapse

What a great time we had at the Norwood Hall event to bring in the new year. We travelled up from Glasgow trusting in the good Tripadvisor reviews given to the hotel and the weekend exceeded our expectations. The first surprise was the lovely sherry that we could help ourselves to at the reception on checking in. It seemed a long walk to our room that was on the corner on the first floor. The walk was worth it, though. It was huge with two windows and lovely modern bathroom that was bigger than some double rooms we have been allocated at hotels. The bathroom included a large walk-in shower. A nice touch was the full ice bucket for our wine and complementary bottle of water. The room was very well appointed and beds were large and very comfortable. We actually had a round table where we could play cards. The Hogmanay ball was super. We started with a champagne reception. Half the men in black ties and the rest in Highland dress. Of course the ladies looked splendid in their ball gowns. We had a delicious 6 course taster meal. A good ceilidh followed and then a piper. After midnight there was a magnificent firework display in the grounds. Everybody seemed to be in the party mode and having a great time. On new year's day we had lazy time and brunch till 12 o'clock and lovely meal at night. It was such a great weekend and we were on verge of giving 11 out of 10. However, alas there always seems to be a caveat!! After our meal on new year's night there was no entertainment and no public area to sit in with our drinks. The main ballroom was closed and all beautiful public rooms were full! The staff tried to find us a seat, but we had to retire to our room to finish our drinks. What a pity after such effort had been put in by staff and management to give their guests five star hospitality over the weekend. However accommodation, food, entertainment, staff were worth 10 out of ten. Collapse
