We only stayed a couple of nights whilst returning our son to uni. The hotel is in a lovely, peaceful part of the city but only about a five minute drive from the centre. The staf were friendly, polite and helpful from beginning to end. We only had breakfast in the hotel, because we had made prior arrangements, but that was delicious. Next time we look forward to trying a lunch or evening meal. We did enjoy a nightcap in the bar where my husband was spoilt for choice with the array of whisky. Collapse

Having been a loyal Macdonald Hotel customer for 10 years now, we saw a deal for this hotel on Itison and decided to try this hotel. It's about 15 minutes out of Aberdeen centre so taxi needed or a car. Excellent 5 service from all staff throughout our stay- just as I'd expect from Macdonald staff. Interior of hotel is absolutely stunning particularly reception, Old Library and bar area. Very impressed. For the price we paid the room was fine however it definitely needs a lick of paint, new carpet etc. I would not pay full price for that room. Would be interested to know if rooms are due to be refurbed as other Macdonald hotels have been. We had afternoon tea-looked amazing on menu and good value for money. Most was delicious especially the lemon posset although scones were dry and tasteless. Breakfast was the normal high Macdonald standard. Pleased we visited. Collapse

Following a previous bad experience in another local hotel I booked last minute into this hotel and was not disappointed. The drive up to the hotel is beautifully lined with pine trees and the smell of the open fire welcomes guests into the reception area. Upon hearing about my previous bad experience in another local hotel staff upgraded my room at no extra cost to a beautiful huge room which was clean, cosy and had a bath and a shower. The bed was HUGE and so comfortable there was no outside noise given the grounds and my room overlooked the gardens. The hotel is an old mansion house and is stunning the feel of it is of grandeur but what I really liked was that it was relaxed not stuffy. The food was delicious, I ate in the restaurant for dinner and took advantage of the set menu (I thought this was really good value for money given the quality of local produce) for £21 for 3 courses I had the ham hock terrine, the slow braised beef which was delicious moist and tasty followed by sticky toffee pudding. Breakfast was equally as delicious there was continental offerings however I decided to have eggs benedict and was not disappointed the eggs were poached to perfection and the home made hollandaise sauce was seasoned perfectly. The staff couldn't do more to assist me with my luggage and would highly recommend this hotel it is stunning. I will definitely be back here for business and pleasure in the future, thank you! Went to this hotel for two days after being given it as a wedding present and was not impressed by it at all. Had a voucher which states A La Carte which in my book means anything from the menu, but on arrival at the restaurant was handed a set menu for two or three courses as well as other options which were extra after talking to members of staff I was advised that we were entitled to three course and tea or coffee. This should be on the voucher.Service was slow and the room not the cleanest I have been in cobwebs hanging. Had to contact reception a number of times as we only had one robe in our room and when we eventually got one found it lying in front of our door. Found the whole hotel pretty shabby, our radiator was hanging off the wall in our bathroom and the carpet had stains in the middle of the floor. TRAYS OF DISHES WERE LEFT LYING IN THE CORRIDOR FOR MOST OF THE FIRST DAY WE WERE THERE. Should not happen as staff were seen just walking by them. I contacted reception to reserve our cream tea at a certain time and when we went down it wasn't there after 15 minutes contacted staff member and it finally came. Shouldn't have bothered as it was terrible 4 pancakes which stacked on top of one another were about as thick as one cheap one from lidl, also two scones that were tasteless and to top it all came on a plate with terrible presentation. On leaving I was asked about paying for drinks which I had paid for by cash. Would not advise going if you have children and no car as going for a walk to the main road is putting your life in your hand due to narrow road. Overall would not recommend this hotel and it has put me off using this hotel group. Collapse

Family and I attend a family wedding at the weekend that was amazing. The manageress in charge of the wedding was on attentive and very professional in guiding the young staff to what was needed to be achieved. The hotel is really superb and very romantic. The attention given by all the staff was excellent . The wedding meal was very good and the evening buffet of bacon and sausage on a roll was tasty. The room was very clean and a good size. Would highly recommend for a wedding or a romantic break. Thank you Collapse

A huge thank you to the staff in this beautiful hotel. They welcomed a large number of tired and grumpy people decanted from a very late cancelled Flybe flight. We arrived in taxi and coach drinks and drabs and they were cheerful, sympathetic and welcoming. They put on food. The room are incredibly comfortable. A very good size. Fluffy towels, bathrobes and Arran Aromatics. We all had to be away around 4:30am the next morning and staff had volunteered to come in and help with a fantastic buffet breakfast. They didn't need to do this. It was amazing. The very cheerful night desk guy sorted out taxis for everyone. This was definitely the silver lining of a bad travel experience. I only wish I could have stayed longet Collapse
