Unfortunately, the hotel had not received a confirmation of our booking so no room had been booked for us. They found us a room, an executive style (not standard) in the older part of the hotel. The only thing i think could make it executive was the size of the bathroom. It was a double room rather than a twin as requested but they never got the request and i was just thankful to get a room. The decor is traditional (old fashioned) and no double glazing. On the saturday night there was a wedding reception and the music was loud and clear in our room. I phoned reception at about 12.45 am to find out when it would end and the night porter thought about 1am. At 1.30 i phoned again and he assumed it had stopped, if it had, why would i be phoning? i went down to reception and spoke to the night porter and noticed the night manager (so i was told) heading off with some dry cleaning to deliver. Shame about me waiting to speak to someone in authority! the reception eventually finished about 2am. I want people to enjoy their wedding receptions but it was not fair to put us in a room nearby without warning us of possible noise. The wedding reception was in a separate building but the music could still be heard. The morning reception staff were very helpful. They put us in a room on the opposite side of the hotel for the following night, however, this time we could hear the traffic from the road running adjacent to the hotel. It was coming in loud and clear through the air vent in the bathroom! we did get a twin room this time with a small bathroom. The other worry was the receptionist on the night of arrival wanted us to pay for the weekend break when i knew we had already paid Superbreak. Luckily, the receptionist on our departure knew that superbreak take the payment in advance. On the positive side, the breakfasts were good and the lady on duty in the bar on the sunday night was extremely helpful with ordering some food for us even though it was not on the bar menu. The leek and potato soup was very tasty and the crumble was delicious. Collapse

Where to start . . .. The walk down the steps to the venue was hazardous - no grit put down which for a lot of people was treacherous! The bar prices were extortionate. We had prebooked the drinks for the table - they couldn't even get this right. After speaking to the 3rd person it was eventually put right. Unfortunately soft drink bottles don't open on their own. .. . what a job trying to get a bottle opener. The only decent thing was the food which was delicious. I think they really need to get their acts together. PS. we did complain on the night Collapse

A group of 7 came here for a Christmas party. As another hotel was fully booked. The lay out was fabulous, apart from my chair being right next to the next table, which meant being knocked into all night! The food was lovely, only plus. The bar, where does one start? The prices were simply greedy. How the devil do you charge £9 for a G&T ! Serving it with sweeps! Not even fever tree! Then there’s Charging £29 for a bottle of prosecco! Gasp not even champagne! And serving up dirty glasses!! We had to twice ask for clean glasses! To add more fuel to the fire the prosecco has £7.50 clearly stamped on the neck of the bottle! Shame on the management for charging stupid prices, we’re not even in London! The staff..... well some clearly worked very hard whilst others didn’t have a clue what they were doing. Wise up management. What a shame you spoilt are evening, and bank balances. We shall not be returning! It’s does day something when the DJ Comments on your bar prices in front of 300 guests. Collapse

I visited here with work for a Christmas party. We were originally going to the Disco Inferno but was upgraded to the Winter Wonderland party. A bit annoyed that due to the upgrade my starter was changed to soup. Though the soup was delicious it is not what I originally ordered. There was a live singer who was good but her songs could have been a bit more happy at the beginning considering the the Christmas theme. The DJ did get the room going during the middle section of the party and this seemed to be enjoyed by everyone. The room were in was nice and decorated well. The only suggestions for improvement are they could have opened the other bar because service was very slow, which led to the bar being very busy and prices for drinks are extortionate. It was £5.10 for half a lager and a small coke. Collapse
