Always Ask If There Is A Wedding Reception!

Unfortunately, the hotel had not received a confirmation of our booking so no room had been booked for us. They found us a room, an executive style (not standard) in the older part of the hotel. The only thing i think could make it executive was the size of the bathroom. It was a double room rather than a twin as requested but they never got the request and i was just thankful to get a room. The decor is traditional (old fashioned) and no double glazing. On the saturday night there was a wedding reception and the music was loud and clear in our room. I phoned reception at about 12.45 am to find out when it would end and the night porter thought about 1am. At 1.30 i phoned again and he assumed it had stopped, if it had, why would i be phoning? i went down to reception and spoke to the night porter and noticed the night manager (so i was told) heading off with some dry cleaning to deliver. Shame about me waiting to speak to someone in authority! the reception eventually finished about 2am. I want people to enjoy their wedding receptions but it was not fair to put us in a room nearby without warning us of possible noise. The wedding reception was in a separate building but the music could still be heard. The morning reception staff were very helpful. They put us in a room on the opposite side of the hotel for the following night, however, this time we could hear the traffic from the road running adjacent to the hotel. It was coming in loud and clear through the air vent in the bathroom! we did get a twin room this time with a small bathroom. The other worry was the receptionist on the night of arrival wanted us to pay for the weekend break when i knew we had already paid Superbreak. Luckily, the receptionist on our departure knew that superbreak take the payment in advance. On the positive side, the breakfasts were good and the lady on duty in the bar on the sunday night was extremely helpful with ordering some food for us even though it was not on the bar menu. The leek and potato soup was very tasty and the crumble was delicious. Collapse

I was a bridesmaid at a wedding at this venue on 22/10/16 and must say overall I was disappointed with the service provided at the hotel. The hotel and grounds itself were lovely so it was a real shame. Our rooms were changed last minute from adjoining rooms in which the bridal party were to get ready ( presumably because Brighton football club were given these rooms instead!). The rooms we were allocated to get ready in was supposed to have been big enough for 7 of us to get ready in. Instead they were bog standard just big enough for a bed and small table which would never have accommodated us all. On request we were then provided with a boardroom to get ready in. The groomsmen on arrival did not have a room ready for them either and were told 'we only have 3 hours to turn a full hotel around'. This is a disgusting response and I'm sure at least 1 room could have been made available as a priority for them. When we went to the bridal room there were only 4 champagne flutes despite us requesting 6 beforehand, there was no bottle opener despite j20's being provided that required a bottle opener. Again this took 2 phone calls to reception and a half hour wait for them to arrive. The ceremony itself was badly organised with no one knowing who was walking down the aisle and when and as to whether we were supposed to follow the bride and groom out after the ceremony or go to the drinks reception- the master of ceremonies should have properly orchestrated this! As mine was the only veggie meal I had to ask separately for this on 3 separate occasions before it arrived despite it having been pre ordered. During my stay I lost an ear ring so we had to lift and move the bed to look for it and was disappointed to find remnants of crisp and other food under there! Lastly on going to breakfast the cutlery for serving food was cross contaminated with the same utensils having been used to pick up meats as the vegetarian options which was very off putting for a vegetarian or anyone else who may have had allergies for instance. Overall if someone is paying large sums of money for a wedding the service should reflect this and I personally would not recommend as a wedding venue Collapse

Just come back from a one night stay with family of four. Liked the country house feel of the hotel. The receptionist Haley was very helpful. The room 201 was large and clean together with a large beautiful decorated bathroom. We had used a buy a gift offer with a further 25% discount included three course evening meal excellent and buffet breakfast which was very nice. Enjoyed a nice walk with my daughter around the lakes. Overall very enjoyable! Collapse

No reservation, not keen to sort out why it had not been received. Reluctant to find us a room, much more interested in the weddings going on. No in room dining booking form in room and so much more say!
