Had a lovely day overall. Happy with the facilities, although the Jacuzzi wasn't working. Enjoyed the aqua fit lesson, trainer was grear. Treatments included in the Spa Summer deal were a body brush & scrub & also a feet treatment with hot socks. Excellent value for money. Felt very relaxed. Had lunch in the garden, fab quality with a glass of fizz. My only let downs were the blank looks at the hotel reception when we first arrived and no gifts left. I had booked this as soon as I got the email, as a returning customer. Might I suggest, if there are no gifts left there should be some kind of substitute offered like a voucher & not a half hearted sorry. Collapse

The reception area is stunning; an old converted mansion. We were in a newer attached building. Very well appointed cosy and comfortable room with a great bed. However, rather hot and hard to cool. Nice heavy curtains so the room was dark and quiet and we slept well. It was fun finding our room each time we left it, as the place is like a rabbit warren! Very nice meal but service a little odd. They couldn't quite get their heads around separate bills on our room numbers. It's not that hard. And we find the English habit of staff dominating the meal rather than guests a bit strange. When guests are talking, staff should wait and not just but straight in. Delicious breakfast. Would definitely return. Collapse

Ok, I spend too many nights on business in hotels of varying quality and differing locations but the one constant these days is disinterested staff who really don't care when a guest has an issue - ok that is a sweeping statement but bitter experience and simple annoyance in lack of customer care drives this concern, So what makes this hotel work - well I had an issue which was probably 50/50 fault - it is tricky to find thanks to the lack of signage and the number of Charles Roads in the area but was not helped by incorrect directions when I called the hotel. To get there I would follow signs for Worthington Lakes or use the longitude details as the post code takes to you scarily close but not with any visible signs So by the power of deduction- i.e. Driving up every Chorley Road or road starting with a C with a liberal use of industrial languge I eventually l eventually arrived ruing the fact that i had allowed my PA a day off for her birthday as I was ready to just book a room elsewhere- anywhere So arriving hacked off I was looking to stay a night instead of two and just go to a hotel I could find and did exist on the OS maps. My mood was changed by the diligent, friendly and quite frankly impressive Manager Martin - think of hotel managers with Basil at one end this guy is at the other. I really cannot fault his efforts and the value he has created in the brand and the hotel is immense - no number of adverts or free giveaways could build as much trust as he did with his warm, genuine and earnest manner. So this got me thinking if he deals with a concern like this the customer care and focus throughout the hotel must be immense - and it was. If you are looking at a special event wedding etc this is a place to go to because you know someone is there to make it all go right and if there is a hiccup it will be sorted but given the professionalism installed in the staff I would be surprised if such issues emerged on a regular basis. I was somewhat surprised at some of the reviewers comments on the condition of the hotel as I see most of the rooms have been refurbished and I was impressed with a good quality shower and clean / comfy bed - what more can you want. The rooms in the main building are impressive and well appointed. The grounds back onto Worthington Lakes and would provide an impressive background for any wedding photos. The onsite gym and classes are better than found in most hotels although the pool is a bit small. Finally, food is also impressive and cooked from scratch including breakfast The restaurant pricing is at the top end of the local market but is excellent quality and would lend itself to the spoecial occasion Overall I give this hotel the highest recommendation and doubt you will be disappointed - I look forward to my next stay Collapse

We decided to book a night at Kilhey Court mainly for a Spa break, so my review will cover two aspects Spa & Hotel. The Spa was great the treatments on offer were varied well priced and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable in the service they provide, on the other hand the leisure facilities at the Spa were not great in my opinion they looked a bit dilapidated, signs of rust near heaters missing tiles on the stairs to the pool, one steam room was closed for repair, it didn't feel special in line with the Spa just functional. The hotel was showing major signs of wear and tear, the b day was out of order (wouldn't have used it anyway) but not the point we didn't receive a reduction because something is out of order, in my daughters room her shower wasn't working at all, she complained and received an upgraded alternative room, I don't understand why these things are not checked routinely, also back in our room lots of black mold/mildew spots in the sealant around the bath it needed resealing, outside our room the ceiling was leaking in the hallway with a large hole in the ceiling, I told a member of staff she really didn't seem that bothered. The plus points cheap to stay, good rates and offers in the spa, a five star breakfast with great food and service to match, the hotel is lovely in parts, the beds are comfortable the hotel is just looking tired and shabby around the edges, another downside the restaurant very expensive in my opinion for example 18 finger ham sandwiches with a small bowl of crisps cost £24, would I stay again? yes probably, I must say staff were a real credit to MacDonald hotels especially the front of house and breakfast team, nice location good price to stay, great pub nearby The Owls for great reasonably priced food (pre booking a must), don't expect five star do expect friendly professional staff who will make you feel welcome.
