We stayed here for one night, arrived around 3.30pm. Went to reception to check in, there was one person in front of us yet it took 20 mins for us to be seen then once we were trying to check in there seemed to be an issue with payment (we thought room has been paid for but it hasn't), asked if we could settle upon leaving to be told we cannot even though the couple in front of us was allowed to do so? One of our party had already checked in so went to find them in the spa to sort the payment issue. Went back to check in to be told to get back in the queue, this time there was 2 people in front of me, half an hour later we eventually got to the desk. I don't understand why it should take so long to check in. The party that arrived earlier than us also had to wait 30 min to check in. Onec we got our keys we went to the room. Rooms are fine, our iron was broke in our room. Tried to ring down to reception (3 times) to get it replaced but it just rang out. All in all, quite a disappointing visit and don't think I'd stay again. Collapse

First of all, reading the most recent reviews of this hotel should tell you all you need to know. The rooms that I stayed in were mostly clean. The bathrooms looked tired. One had a broken bidet which had a chunk glued back on, another had a shower that would only heat to lukewarm, another had mould in the grouting and around the bath. These are little things that you notice when you're not staying for a short visit. Sometimes the people who serviced the rooms would top the tea, coffee and biscuits up, other times not. Mostly the rooms were uncomfortably warm. Some staff were approachable and friendly, others wouldn't look up to greet you as you passed. Eating here is another scenario entirely. The food at breakfast looks like someone without a care in the world prepares it so mostly I ate the fruit which was already out. Sometimes we would wait a long time for simple things like milk to go with hot drinks or would need to ask multiple times for things. Coffee was regularly sent back due to it being far too weak to drink. Food orders were often messed up or missed with little recompense for unacceptable service. Saying this, there is obviously a lack of quality control, communication and training for staff. One receptionist was always friendly and pleasant but I'm afraid I've forgotten her name. George who worked in the bar always tried his best and this did not go unnoticed. Collapse

I don't normally go out of my way to write reviews, however I did feel the need after a really bad stay at this hotel. I have stayed in other MacDonald hotels in the past which have been to an excellent standard, so was very surprised to have to think of this hotel as the worst I have ever stayed in. On entering the hotel, the Scottish chap on reception was very friendly and helpful, we got a quiet night sleep and the room although was a bit warm was very nice. Day two we went to the bar to order some food, the waitress was pleasant - 40 mins later still no food, I asked the young chap at the bar about the food, was very apologetic that the order for some reason had not reached the kitchen, he then asked if we would like some drinks while we waited (which we were charged for at the end), when I said this is completely unacceptable, he said I will see what I can do. 1 hour later from placing the order the food arrived and we ended up paying for the full lunch in the end with no discount and drink we thought we were getting complimentary for our wait. The same evening we went for dinner, 40 mins later our food arrived, the noise from a family across from us completely drowned out ours and the rest of the guests conversation's. Arrived back at the room and wedding party going on next door, the noise was unbearable, finally got to sleep and really load music from 7am. Went down for breakfast and ordered some toast n coffee, 20 mins later still no toast and coffee so again I had to ask a member of staff where my coffee was. Also heard the table behind us getting annoyed. After breakfasts went to check out, I was not eve. Asked how my stay was, just that that's fine your account has been settled. I will not be returning to this hotel, bad stay in Wigan, premier in offer a much better service. Sorry. Collapse

I came to the hotel for a friend's wedding. The room wasn't ready in time and had to get dressed in another guests room due to this. However I would like to say that the staff were great once that was all sorted. A member of night staff called Cameron was really helpful and an asset to the hotel. I feel he required a call out on this as I don't think people get thanked when they deserve it. All in all a very nice hotel Collapse

My wife and I were booked in on Sunday 6th August for a wedding taking place in the hotel. Personally we cannot fault the hotel and its lovely surroundings but we were completely dissatisfied with the shoddy welcome we received when we arrived. When we booked our stay we were told that our executive room would be ready from 2.00pm which would have given us more than enough time before the wedding ceremony starts at 3.30, but we were told the rooms of many of the guests including ours were not ready and we were not given the key until 3.10. This gave us just twenty minutes to get ready, it was suggested by the reception staff my wife could get changed in the ladies toilet, this was unbelievable and a total humiliation, but my wife had no alternative, at one point my wife even thought she had lost her iPad leaving it in the ladies toilet. It was also said by the hotels reception staff, the only way to guarantee getting the room for the Sunday from 2.00 would be booking in on the Saturday the day before!!! No mention of this was made when we initially made the booking, also at what cost??? Obviously the hotel knew how busy they were going to be, they also had a wedding on the Saturday so we would have thought they would have secured extra staff for this reason. We understand checking out time was at 11.00am so this would have given the chamber staff 3 hours to get the rooms ready, obviously this wasn't enough time with the number of staff they had. The bottom line is we were most dissatisfied, we have attended many weddings at many hotels but we have never experienced anything like this and we will never recommend this hotel to anyone. The least we could have expected was some kind of financial remuneration to keep the hotels good name but obviously customer service does not come high on the list of the hotels priorities. Collapse
