I booked this as a treat for my parter' 45 birthday Somehow I booked a night via hotel website- easy to do and one through Secret Escapes- including breakfast and dinner. I will leave separate review for restaurant I find it lovely and nice that I could book champagne and strawberries and add afternoon tea from hotel booking. The grounds are so green and lovely- expected for the golf lovers, but pleasantly surprising for us. I emailed the hotel before asking to have the same room for 2 nights(due to separate bookings)- this was acted upon, but communication could be improved as we didn't know until getting there. We arrive 14:30- had to wait half hour to get the room- again most other places we've been allow earlier check in , but it's obvious how short staffed they are so we had a drink- less options for local ales/ ciders than expected! We had a ground floor room- decoration very beige and unexciting, but comfortable bed , large room, lovely French door and a little garden table and chairs outside Lovely bathroom and separate shower cubicle Afternoon tea was delicious, although they didn't seam to realise we booked it (would have though was part of the same booking), came with delay and phonecall to chase up was needed, but was delicious when arrived and was nice we could have it in the room. The spa and facilities were lovely, large swimming pool, nice sauna and treatments booked were amazing I would highly recommend their spa service- plus reasonably priced and easy online booking. We went out first evening to eat but had dinner second night. Their ticketed breakfast doesn't go down well with a 4* hotel, feels like a cheap canteen, but that's about systems and improving them Check out was easy Grounds are lovely and I'd recommend a walk Nice stay overall Service variable, particularly in the restaurant , but that's for a separate review Some staff, receptionist, cleaners lovely, friendly and polite. Restaurant staff less so Collapse

We stayed here last weekend for our wedding anniversary. We have stayed here on 2 previous occasions, where the hotel, food and service were excellent Unfortunately on this occasion the hotel didn't meet the same high standards. After checking in and taking our luggage to the room we decided to go for a swim in the hotel pool. When we arrived at the spa area there were no towels available, and we were advised the a member of staff that they would bring one to poolside for us. This took some 45 minutes, not just for us, bey everyone else in the pool area. In the evening we had booked a table at the onsite restaurant. The restaurant didn't seem overly busy. We ordered our food and were asked if we would like water for the table. This never arrived despite asking twice (on a hot evening the water was needed) the food came out eventually, after almost an hour of waiting. We realised that other diners had also had long waits for food too. We were slightly disappointed by the food on the menu compared to previous years we had stayed here. Overall, the service in the restaurant was poor, and there was little in the way of an apology for the mistakes or wait. At 1.30 in the mornings nag we were awoken by someone shouting and banging on a door on our corridor (obviously in an drunk state) At breakfast the following morning there was a good selection of choice on the cold buffet, but I was disapointed with the hot food, which was served from hot plates by one member of staff. The selection of hot food was basic, with only fried eggs available, no black pudding. This way of serving caused a queue for food. In previous years there was a menu to choose from with a greater choice of foods available.this was cooked and brought to your table. I felt the breakfast was more in line with a budget hotel than a premium destination. Overall, it felt like there was evidence of cost cutting which has lead to a reduction in service compared to previous stays. On the positive side the room was clean, comfortable and the same high standard as previous visits. A good stay and relaxing weekend, but could have been better Collapse

Probably one of the best hotels we've stayed at on our golfing travels. My room certainly was, it was huge with modern furniture and a very large comfy bed and pillows ensuring a great nights sleep, ready for two days golfing on the Sapphire and Emerald courses. Food was good but unfortunately we were offered the same menu on both nights of our stay. Another disappointed was the serving of breakfast, it was a plated breakfast being served like a school canteen by a member of staff. I accept it's difficult to deal with large parties but surely self service breakfast would have quicker. When the fried eggs ran out we had to wait until the member of staff went to the kitchen to get some more and then transfer them to the chafing tray. His task should have merely been to keep the chafing trays well stocked and not have to worry about serving as well. That said it was always hot and tasty. Beer wasn't too expensive but wine was unjustifiably expensive causing some of our party to visit the local sainsbury for supplies, I don't know how hotels can justify £43 for a bottle of wine. Both courses were in good nick well looked after and provided a range of challenges. The shorter Sapphire course was for a novice far too difficult. Too many holes within a small area, difficult two level greens impossible to stay on without running off, holes running away on hills and balls finishing up further away from the hole than the starting position. All that said we had a great weekend. Collapse
