This was my first visit to Hill Valley, having heard it was an upmarket place I had high expectations... I came as part of a group for one of the Christmas party nights, this being the Motown evening. For £35 a head, it was extremely pricey for what we received. We arrived at 7pm, with the premise of eating at 7:30pm. Gone 8pm, we were still waiting for tables to arrive so that service could begin. When service started, they were quite swift and organised. The soup, though hot, I could not tell what flavour it was and there were lentils or something settled at the bottom, obviously burnt and were like chewing bullets. The bread roll was part cooked. The turkey main was so dry and tough. Every table left the sprouts as they were still raw. We had to ask for extra gravy, you could tell as service had started late, everything had been zapped under the heat lamps. My cheese plate for afters was quite pitiful, 3 of the smallest pieces of cheese, 5 grapes, a thimble full of chutney and some Dry crackers, it was not the meal I had been expecting as apparently the food was amazing last year. The entertainment was pretty dire. The act entered the room with no introduction or build up, sang (shouted) over an hour of predictable Motown tunes, then left the room with out even a 'thank you', 'merry Christmas' or 'goodnight'. The whole evening just seemed very flat with little atmosphere. This could also be down to the absolutely ridiculous bar prices! Almost £12 for a double gin and tonic, served in a tumbler, not a proper balloon gin glass. I will not be rushing back for a party night any time soon. Collapse
Overpriced and disappointing

Stayed here with my partner and parents recently while visiting family. The rooms were large and clean and the bed was impressively comfortable. However I found for the amount we were charged for a single night for one room with breakfast for two -£169 in total- was incredibly overpriced for the standard of the room and facilities provided. There was a completely empty mini bar in the room which you had to ring to reception if you wanted milk. I would have thought for this price there would have been some basic products provided! But the real let down for us was breakfast. The cooked breakfast was buffet style but with a gentleman serving so he served you one rasher of bacon, one sausage... etc etc , not exactly a plateful. They had run out of eggs without any offer to get more. On top of this we were not offered tea or coffee or toast, and when we asked one of the waitresses if we could order some she snapped back at us that 'it's on it's way sir!' After waiting for a further 15 minutes we had to embarrassingly ask again at which point someone finally came over to us to help. A comfortable stay but will not be back in a hurry. Collapse

Booked for an overnight stay for my husband's birthday. We were greeted by friendly reception staff Kirsty & Sarah who ensured that we had a room with a beautiful view and a sweet birthday platter. My husband & I then went on to enjoy a relaxing 55min massage together. Jodie the masseuse gave the best massage I have ever had! Karen's knowledge of the facilities and surrounding area were a real help and her caring and lovely personality made our stay extra special. We would definitely recommend this hotel & will be returning in the New Year. Collapse

Booked an executive room on ‘Secret Escapes’ - well worth the extra - very comfortable room. Hotel staff couldn’t do enough for you. Very relaxing, quiet hotel. Not much in the form of evening entertainment unless you are part of an organised function. Swimming pool and gym equipment free to use for guests. Dinner ‘deal’ not quite as sold, but suggest benefits the diner not the hotel. Dinner menu somewhat limited, but slightly different every night. Nothing wrong with the food. Collapse

Visited this spa with my friend as a treat booked through a third party company online. Big mistake. The voucherp purchased, which was valid until later this month, they would not honour and an upgraded packaged had to be purchased for a different treatment. Not a great start. Upon arrival the pool was not available due to an overnight fault. Dissaponting as we really wanted to use the pool. Right as we were using the exfoliating component for the first part of our treatment the fire alarm went off. We had to quickly shower this salt off then evacuate to the car park. After our treatment the pool still hasn't been refilled after being fixed. We weren't told that our treatment slot was over so we were close to missing lunch. We understand that pool problems happen and fire alarms too but it was the fact that we weren't even offered any kind of recompense for the inconvenience. I mean a spa is meant to be relaxing but when you're evacuated to the car park right in the middle of a treatment that's not exactly the R&R we both wanted. On a positive note the afternoon tea was lovely (though we had to pay extra for this) and the views/surroundings outside were beautiful. (Hence 2 out of 5). Collapse
