Stayed on the 10th for 1 night for business. Upon arriving at the hotel I thought it looked beautiful except it didn’t live up to that at all. It looked like a bomb had gone off in reception when I checked in..cups and old cake everywhere, clearly a conference going on- at 5:00pm you thought this would be cleared up. I had to walk around the hotel to find a member of staff to check me in. I nearly entered the kitchen at one point. I checked in and was allocated room 220. I wasn’t located in the main hotel and had to go to the other small section to my room. I explained I was pregnant and had a Heavy suitcase but reception told me they were full. The room was very old fashioned, carpet covered in marks and Hair and the whole room smelt like damp. The room was cold and very uninviting. I dined in the restaurant, just a warning the food is expensive for what you get. Very small dishes and make sure you order side dishes- you will be left hungry. After 3 courses I wouldn’t expect to be hungry. The service was of a good standard and the waitress did agree that the portions were tiny! I arrived at breakfast at 9:25am and have never felt some uncomfortable. I didn’t realise breakfast finished at 9:30am. Clearly the breakfast staff wanted an early dart and not to serve me. Again I get breakfast is busy but every table was filthy. The clean knapkin on my table was covered in toast crumbs, clearly re-folded for me...delightful! On check out I said the hotel is 2 different standards- the actual rooms and reception is no higher than a 1/2 star yet the food is 4* (minus the small plates and prices!) The checkout lady said she would get the manager to call me, took my number and was sorry to hear of the disappointment. 2 days later still no call! I wouldn’t stay here nor would I recommend anyone to! Business travellers- book the Hilton we know the standard we are getting! Collapse

Checked in around 4PM, went to my room which was outside of the main building, which isn't unusual for these older type hotels, on walking into the building I was hit with a the smell of damp and BO, which only got worse the further I went in. upon arrival to my room I noticed the door wouldn't shut as the deadbolt was coming out when the door was open, upon ringing reception to report the issue, I got told to simply swipe my card on the door on the way out so I could close the door, no apology, no asking if I wanted to change rooms, disappointing service. This then was the first of many issues I found whilst visiting this establishment, Upon going for a shower I noticed a horrible build up on mold/mildew on PVC at the bottom by the shower door, which was held on by cable ties, there was more mildew on the inside of the shower, on the tiles and in the bottom corner, so I decided that it would be best to just not look down, however looking up wasn't much better, the shower head was full of limescale and the ceiling, how on earth I haven't a clue, was stained with multiple splatters on brown stuff, I wouldn't like to know what it was. The bedroom wasn't much better, it was clean and tidy, but the lighting in the room was very poor, even with all the lights on, no plug sockets near the bed, Wait that isn't strictly true, there are old 5A lighting sockets with the VERY old BS plug which isn't particularly safe due to the fact that there isn't enough separation between the live pins and your hands but hey ho, Just don't touch it I suppose. No normal 240v sockets on the same side as the bed, so any electrical items that need charging have to be left on the desk, on the other side of the room. Dinner, this is where I thought the hotel would redeem itself, apparently not, had the soup for starter which was served with 'freshly cut bread' (a small piece) that sat on my table for 20 minutes whilst I waited for the soup, which was flavorsome but very thin, I asked for my £25+ steak to be cooked rare, unfortunately the steak was extremely thin and resembled a steak that was medium, lots of fat on the steak and the 'red wine sauce' tasted like gravy that someone had put a couple of drops of wine in, max. The wine I had with my meal (pinot noir) was very good and the gent that poured it did make it a bit of an event, very professional, however for £12 a glass, i'd expect nothing less, didn't bother with desert as I had places to be, but the deserts that were on the menu did sound appealing. Breakfast - Nothing special, menu with standard breakfast items or fish and eggs with a supplement, no sweet breakfast items, pancakes, waffles etc, but not many hotels do so no complaints on that found, again, just overpriced for what you get. in my opinion the bacon was overcooked and very fatty, but my personal preference is lean, soft bacon and everyone likes it different, at least it was cooked I suppose. Overall, I wouldn't choose to stay here again, rooms are very outdated and in dire need of refurbishment, the cleanliness of the room was not up to standard in the slightest, easily visible/touchable mildew is not acceptable, a small amount of TLC is all that is required to clean that and its clear that the rooms have been neglected, for what reason, I'm unsure as the rest of the hotel isn't what I would call amazing. Hotel is very overpriced for what it is, which is a standard bed and breakfast in a historical building. Save yourself hassle, and stay 10 minutes down the road at the Jurys Inn. I don't want a 'sorry we didn't meet your expectations, hope you'll visit us again soon' response, that answers nothing so why on earth would I stay here again on the back of that type of reply? This hotel deserves every plaudit. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble. From the receptionist who booked us in, to the restaurant staff, everyone was genuinely warm and welcoming. We were fitted in to the restaurant at short notice and thank goodness- what a fantastic meal. Our room was lovely and it was so nice at breakfast not to have to cook my own toast! Full marks Ansty Hall. I cannot praise this hotel highly enough- we were so impressed that I asked to speak to the duty manager to pass on my thanks. Collapse

Short visit to Rugby nearby. I received a warm welcome despite a late night arrival. The room on the second floor is worth the climb up the flight of stairs. It is huge, faces the courtyard and the woods beyond. It is a manor house and the floor is a bit uneven and creeky. But the bathroom is equipped well up to a separate shower cubicle. The bed is soft, duvet fluffy, and nice touch like spring water with proper glasses and ice bin. I do not mind the slightly quaint decoration. Breakfast is also a proper matter with proper service and cook-to-order dishes rather than a buffet. And the bacon, sausage, egg, and even the baked beans smells and taste of fresh distinctive products that I have decided to return for dinner after my visit to Rugby. The dinner is not disappointing either, with proper service and properly cooked food to finish the night. The maitre D, the waitresses, and the receptionists and concierge are all very nice and delivered very high quality service. They have even taken time to know and address customers by name by the Saturday afternoon, and engage in proper chatting rather than just a usual "is everything all right?" This is proper hospitality rarely seen now, and long may it continue. Collapse
