I visit for 3 nights Aug 3-6 and had some difficulties with my booking . The staff on Reception were amazing , nothing was an issue and if the actual stay follows this pattern I expect to writing a top class review. Collapse

The friendliness of every member of staff is your first encounter before you are blown away with your surroundings. Rarely hotels have all of these qualities running together. The restaurant was one of the best I have visited in a while and I would put it up there with the Michelin star restaurants I have visited.......actually it was better. I enjoyed REAL boxty for breakfast unlike what is being served in other places eg. MacNean house I know I have recommended other hotels and restaurants but this one is a must go to. You won't be disappointed. Collapse

On the 16/07/17 myself and my siblings (10 in total ) enjoyed a magnificent day and night in Lough Rynn Castle. I had made all the enquiries/bookings with Michelle Whelan who was always so professional and helpful in every way. The grounds and gardens are beautiful and there was ample parking around the castle. Our 4 course lunch was amazing with incredible service by Kevin Lowry who looked after our every need and we all felt super spoiled. We were given the drawing room as a private function afterwards to continue to enjoy this wonderful occasion together. Our apartment on site was beautiful and we enjoyed some personal chocolates left in for my birthday. So overall well done to Management and everyone involved in making my birthday such a wonderful experience for me and my family. Thank you Anne Collapse

Firstly can I say that we had received a Christmas gift of a voucher the hotel and when we decided to book for a weekend break we actually called in personally to the hotel as the website never had availability for a weekend. So, in June we eventually made a booking for 14th/16th October, receptionist that day Niamh, was extremely helpful and courteous, and gave us a quick view of some of the sleeping rooms available, which was very useful. On arrival, a cold wet Friday evening about 7pm, having driven from Dublin after work, coming up the driveway the castle looked majestic and welcoming. It was a pity then that on entering, there wasn't a friendly face awaiting to help with luggage or even more disappointing, that the fireplace in the entrance hall although set, was not lit. (we noticed on Saturday evening this was not the case). We met Niamh again, friendly as ever who showed us to our very spacious courtyard room (201) on the ground floor. I was surprised that there was no bath - a definite on my wish list when away for a weekend, especially in the winter months. Unfortunately no other room with bath was available as Niamh checked for us (I hadn't specifically requested one but thought in a castle of this standard it too would be standard). We ate in the bar area on Friday and were impressed with the choices on the menu and the quality of food. What was obvious was lack of any background music, and as there weren't many guests around at that stage the only sounds were some hushed voices and the tv. We also noticed that none of the fires were lit - so the combination of the almost stony silence and lack of warmth from fires resulted, we felt, in a total lack of atmosphere. We noticed that there was no drinking water or robes provided in the bedroom or indeed biscuits with the very nice coffee (an oversight?) The next morning when we arrived for breakfast, unfortunately I admit, not long before the cut off time, we and about 2 other couples had to wait outside while others finished eating. This was ok however it would be nice to have somewhere to sit rather than loitering and getting in the way of staff and other guests. Breakfast provided was very good, I would have liked more choice of fresh fruits though. Dinner that evening in the main restaurant was again very good and we were fortunate to have a really good waiter who agreed to let us take our coffee in the drawing room area. On Saturday morning sitting in the same area I noticed several bad stains on both the sofa and chairs. The carpet on the corridor from reception to the dining rooms also looks well past its best. In our room we had a problem with the air conditioning unit which made a very loud rattling noise. When we reported it to reception a member of staff came along and said basically, yes that it does rattle! Same thing with the rather out of date hairdryer in the bathroom. When I reported that it was continuously switching off, a replacement was very quickly brought to the room, with again a comment that yes, those hairdryers don't really work! The hotel does have some very professional staff however, we did notice that in the main room when having our afternoon tea that the level of expertise varied. Waiting staff need to keeping a watch for guests looking for attention rather than strolling around the rooms avoiding eye contact with diners etc. A leisurely walk around the walled gardens and lake was the highlight of the visit. Congratulations to all who restored and maintain the lawns, scrubs and trees. A pity that the roof of the boathouse is being left to rot, perhaps a local FÁS type scheme could do some restoration work on it? It has been Pardon the long commentary and indeed some months since our visit, I did start to write this and then it got put to one side. I also emailed the General Manager (as requested by reception as no formal comment cards are available) I never received a response so maybe it never got to him. Overall a pleasant stay but for the cost and rating I would have expected a little more (as detailed here). Collapse
