Modern and Hip - Perfect Tourist Location (without feeling touristy...)

My husband and I stayed here on the final night of a two-week visit to England. The location was perfect for final night in the city – easy access to the London Eye, South Bank entertainment venues, Victoria Embankment, and Westminster Palace. The street and sidewalk around the hotel is very busy, so the crowd could become an annoyance during stay lasting longer than three days. As you can see from the photographs we took, the rooms have been updated and are very modern. The décor was spectacular and the bathroom was huge. The design and layout was something we usually only see at a Renaissance property. This was a pleasant surprise from a mainstream Marriott. The shower, though, was typical “open style” that one finds throughout the country; it is not possible to bathe without getting water all over the entire room. The view and the room itself were our favorite parts of this stay. EXECUTIVE LOUNGE HAS ISSUES: The M Club is nice (great view of Westminster) inside. It has an odd format for the evening hors d’oeuvre hour. Rather than helping yourself to a counter of hot nibbles, each person is individually served a small plate with a nice sample of hot food. The food was good and the staff was very nice, but we did not really enjoy the amount of time the whole process takes – 45 from the time we were seated until we finished. Not a great format for anything traveling with kids. This would be perfect for a business trip, but not when you just want to pop in for a quick something. We really just wanted a quick snack to hold us over until our 9:00 PM dinner reservations. Breakfast was busy and there only seemed to be one or two hot items on the buffet at any given moment. As soon as they’d restock one hot item, another two would be empty. We chose not to wait around and settled for cold cereal – that too was kind of odd because the cereals are stored in large bowls and one is expected to use a table spoon (as a serving spoon) to transfer it from the big bowl into your worn. The M Club is not bad, but it is not good either. Our access was free because of my Platinum status, so I can’t fuss too much. I’d have been upset if we had paid for M Club access though. The staff – throughout the property – was friendly and almost overly friendly. They made us feel welcome the entire time. Though I fussed about the M Club, it was not a deal breaker and we’d certainly consider this property the next time we find ourselves in London for a few nights. UBER LOCATION NOTE: This comment does not have anything to do with the score I gave the property – it is just a heads up for people who use Uber Black (Uber Lux in London). We had a crazy long wait for our black car to arrive due to the location of the hotel. Many of the cars that accept your ride are coming from Waterloo Station and the traffic – during certain parts of the day – does not make it easy for the drivers to get from Waterloo to County Hall. We waited 50 minutes for three different cars when the app said “your Uber will arrive in 10 minutes”. Speak to the door staff about a car service. The guys at the front door are awesome and can help you get a car quicker than then Uber app – next time we’ll definitely utilize them. Collapse

I made this reservation on owing nothing about the London area, but trusting the Marriott brand. This hotel is SO much more than just a Marriott. The interior of the hotel and the rooms are beautifully done, and the staff is perfectly helpful without being intrusive. Even breakfast was done perfectly, as there is a wide selection of wonderful items to get your day started. From the hotel you can catch bus tours just steps from the front, or if you don't mind walking just a bit, you can see many of the tourist sites on foot (as I did). The view from the hotel looking over the river at Big Ben was absolutely perfect, and should I ever return to London (fingers crossed!), I would definitely return to this hotel. When I returned home to Chicago, I even found that they had sent me a postcard thanking me for my stay. What hotel does that?? Really a perfect visit! Collapse

my mrs surprised me with a trip to London for my birthday. the hotel looks amazing from the outside, such a lovely building. the rooms are what you expect from a Marriott, our room was large, big bed and lovely big bathroom. we had a view of the London eye from our room. the staff was very nice, the girl on the reception was very chatty and smiley. but one member of staff was amazing(sorry but cant remember his name) he was a proper cockney old boy, we spoke to him all 3 day we stopped. I felt I could have asked him any question about London and he would have known the answer, he talked passionately when he was telling us about where we was going. breakfast in a morning was lovely again the staff was good, also we has a nice view of big ben when whilst ate our breakfast.
