We stayed at the resort from June 20th to June 24th. I traveled with my wife and 3 daughters (ages 8, 10, and 14). We stayed in a standard 2 Queen room on the Portofino Club level. I contacted the hotel about 2 weeks prior to our arrival and requested a room near the Portofino Club. I had read that the hotel was quite large and with he smaller kids, did not want to have to walk long distances to get to the Club. We were arriving at around 10am so I also requested an early check-in. We arrived at 10am and were greeted by Julie at the Reception desk. Julie was WONDERFUL!! She went over the hotel in great detail, but was quick and concise. She informed us that our room was not ready, but she would text when it was. We were provided temporary room keys (for the Express Passes to the parks) as well as keys to the Portofino Club. We went to the Club and loaded up on waters and sodas and then went to get the Express Passes. Once I had the Express Passes I went to the onsite Universal Ticket kiosk and got our park tickets. I had bought the park tickets in advance, and I would suggest doing the same. The entire process was quick and painless at the hotel. We left our bags with the luggage folks and headed to the parks. I cannot stress enough the great value in the Unlimited Express Passes offered by staying at the onsite property. We literally did not have to wait more than 15 minutes for any of the rides. We avoided the Harry Potter areas during peak times, and rode everything as often as we wanted during the entire stay. We hit the Harry Potter areas early in the day or later in the evening and could ride both rides multiple times in a row with no more than a 10 minute wait. I recall there being an 85 minute wait for the Minion ride. We walked on with about a 5 minute wait. It was very hot waiting in line, and my wife and I kept smiling at each other knowing we had done the right thing by getting the Express Passes. My kids felt like VIP's throughout the stay. Back to the Hotel. I got a text the 1st day at around 2pm stating that the room was ready. We ended up heading back around 4pm. Just a quick note that the water taxi service is awesome as well!!! We were placed in room 2315. Whne we got there we realized we were right down the hall from the Lobby and Portofino Club. For us, this was PERFECT! We had a great view of the Villa Pool with a nice patio. If we needed anything, it was a quick trip right down the hall to the Club. There we had breakfast, snacks, waters, sodas, and free beer and wine from 5-7pm. It honestly felt like we were at an all-inclusive resort. We ended up coming back for the "sweet ending" in the Club one evening. I cannot remeber the Host's name, but he informed us that we were late and there were no more treats. I said "no worries" and started to leave. He stopped me and said that he would see if they had any leftovers. He quickly returned with a plate FULL of cannolli's. I mean like 15 of them!! My kids eyes lit up like it was Christmas. Just another example of the amazing customer service at this property. Just wonderful!! I walked to the Walgreens the 1st day as well. I loaded up on some of my own beer and wine for the stay. It was a quick 10 minute walk. There is also a liquor store attatched to the Walgreens if you need anything. There was a fridge in the room to keep the yeungling cold. We ended up needing a roll away bed for my 14 year old. It was delivered quickly, as well as the wine opener and toothbrush I forgot. Not sure if they charge for the bed, but I was not charged. Just another reason we had the best stay we can remember. There was plenty of room for all 5 of us, without feeling cramped. We ventured to the Beach Pool almost everyday. We would do the parks, come back and swim, then head back for some evening rides. Never had an issue whatsoever. The Beach Pool is great, but the drinks were pricey. They also came with an automatic 18% gratuity regardless of payment method. I ended up bringing my own can beer to the pool and did not have an issue at all. The pool was great, the waterslide was great, it was all great! We ate at Sal's pizza twice during our stay. I do consider myself a good pizza chef, but all of us, even myself thought Sal's was even better than mine. It was soooo good. At $15 for a large, it was also fairly priced. One night we ate pizza on the patio and shared a bottle of our own wine. It was a great experience, and was also cost effective. All in all, we felt that this was absolutely one of the very best hotels we have ever stayed at. The value of the Express Pass and early entrance to the park made up for the expensive room rates. It was worth every penny in our opinion. If we decide to do another Universal trip in the future I will only look at staying at this property, it really was that good. I cannot recommend the Portofino enough. It was an amazing experience!! If you are considering staying there, don't hesitate, book it!! Way to go Portofino Staff, you have a fan back in Texas! We stayed 4 nights in a deluxe bay-side room mid-week during mid-June. The accommodations were very nice, clean and well appointed with a mini-fridge. The size of the room was ample for 3 adults. The amenities were very nice and we enjoyed the spa pool. While there were some conferences at the facility their presence was not overbearing. Some public areas of the hotel did appear a bit worn and could use updating. Aside from the front desk and the concierge, the remaining hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The on site convenience using the boat shuttle was very nice and we never had to wait more than a few minutes. Collapse

Paid extra for a Bay View room but got a view of the slew. I really wanted to be able to sit in my room and watch the boats come and go in the bay. There is a picture attached of my view. If I had been in a room that was overlooking the bay I would rate it as great. I loved riding the boat to the City Walk and then walking into either Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure without ever having to get into a car. Collapse

My family and I loved the hotel immediately after stepping out of the taxi. The architecture was almost exactly like the actual Italy. The check-in was extremely fast and efficient and the front desk people treated us like family! They gave us cold mineral water and brought us to the lovely room. For a big family, our room certainly had enough space for the whole family. My personal favourite was the pool and the singing at Mama Della! The Universal Express provided made the waiting queues very, very short. The free water taxi was indeed very helpful to go to-and-fro. This hotel was one of the best decisions my family and I ever made and is definitely worth the stay. Collapse
