We normally stay at Loews in Miami Beach because of its central location and comfortable ambiance. This time we made our reservation six weeks in advance and the hotel confirmed but failed to tell us of the major construction project which was underway and late. Everything is torn up from the lobby to the pool area. The main bar and restaurant is closed. Many of the guest rooms are being redone as is the carpeting and decor of the halls. Everything is dirty. The new carpeting has black edges next to the walls which shows dirt. The newly refurbished rooms are painted white with black trim making them look very institutional. We had to request turndown service every night because housekeeping "forgot". One of the elevators was out of service making elevator service very slow. The main vehicle entrance is closed making the circle a dangerous place to walk as one exits the building. They hope to have the project finished by Christmas but based on our experience that can't happen. If you are going to stay there be sure to check the status of the project. On a positive note the staff although harried was great. Collapse

First off I am a fan of the Loews SB, it's got a great location, great feel, buzz and is not a place so hip you feel uncomfortable. We always stay when in South Beach. The hotel is just completing an extensive renovation that was a surprise. It didn't seem to be in bad form, but I guess SB is a very competitive market. The Reno will keep it current, but it's lost some of its Miami charm. Firstly the new rooms are lovely, current but generic, they could be anywhere in the world. Oh so tasteful griege with black accents abound. Lost are the tropical colours and vibe that reminded you that you were in Miami. Sad. Secondly the alleé of royal palms that led from the front of the property to the pool complex that was stunning, has been ripped out and replaced with tiny little palms that will never be as big as those torn out. What a shame . Still a winning location, but a whole lot less charming. Collapse

Second time we have stayed at Loews & while the renovations to the entrance were inconvenient, it was a great stay. We had an ocean front room & the view was fab. Superb bed & we were well looked after by housekeeping. We came back because we love the location of this hotel and having such easy access to the beach. This year we had drinks in Lure and really enjoyed ourselves. Super bartenders - who gave us our bill & pointed out their gratuity was already included. We were back the following night & ate at the bar - food was delicious. If we are back in Miami Beach next year, this would be my hotel of choice :) Collapse
Will be great...(once it's done)

We arrived in the hotel whilst it was in the middle of massive redevelopment which resulted in a chaotic start of our stay.. Large parts were also off-limits still and pooltime was noisy with construction ongoing. Hurricane Matthew had caused delays. Nonetheless, it was a pleasant stay and the hotel staff went the extra mile to help us out. From what we could see the hotel will be amazing once its done...:) Collapse

This hotel was still under renovation when we checked in. It was kind of bit inconvenient for us during the renovation. Nobody wants to be on a vacation at a hotel during the renovation. You have to deal with the noise, the dust and incomplete sections of the hotel. There was no lobby because the lobby area was completely closed for renovation. This hotel definitely knows how to charge their guests, you pay the extra nightly resort fee and get only free beach chairs but you have to pay additional fee for the umbrella. But the umbrella is free at the pool area; it must be very nice of them. They charge you the beach Cabana based on how busy they get, very pricey. If you don't want to pay for their high price. Just a few minutes walk away to the 12th street beach, you will pay around 80% less for the Cabana. The front desk staff and the operators were helpful and super friendly but pool staff and beach staff were rude. My Starbucks coffee was trashed by the pool staff and he said he didn't know it was my drink but the drink was actually next to my chair. First, I thought I couldn't even bring the Starbucks coffee to the pool. Also, don't bring your own food to the pool or the beach. They would yell at you and give you the attitude. The pool and beach staff should be trained to treat guests nicely. They should realize they work in the hospitality, not in a government job that you can be mean to customers. We stayed here for a week and only one day we could spend on the pool because the pool area was completely full and the other section was closed for renovation. We come to Miami Beach once a year. With not so good experience we had here in a week, we definitely will not come back to this hotel. This hotel is pricey and do don't treat guest right; go somewhere else I think you will be treated a lot better. Collapse
