From the time we arrived and were met by the concierge and person to carry luggage it was wonderful. Gaston checked us in offered us a welcome drink and explained the room was not yet ready. We were early so we expected that. He took us on a tour of the hotel and showed us where the restaurant and bar were, we sat down and had lunch. It was great and service very good. We made a reservation for Dinner at the Cullen Boathouse which was great. Gaston explained that the castle had a 32 seat theatre and was showing the Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O'hara at 9:30. I said it was probably too late for us to watch but he said no problem it was also available in the room. We spent a leisurely afternoon watching the Quiet Man which is a classic movie filmed in the town of Cong which is near the castle. I walked to Cong and the village was lovely, recognized many places that you see in the movie. The hotel helps too keep Cong in great shape and raises money for the town by charging hotel guests $1, euro per night, It is entirely optional. Gaston also told me that in the morning between 10 and 11 oclock that the two resident Irish wolfhounds would be having a meet and greet with hotel guests. There trainer was very good and they were very well behaved and social. These dogs are huge and weigh about 150 lbs each. Such gentle dogs was such a great pleasure to meet them. Our breakfast which was included in the room was awesome, Breege the waitress couldn't do enough to help and it was so lovely, food top notch with a continental and then a ala carte menu so you could have the continental and then order from the menu. i had the eggs benedict and was very happy with the meal, Eggs were perfect. My husband had scrambled eggs with ham and it was also great. This hotel really treated us like kings and queens and was a experience I will never forget. If you can stay at least one night in this beautiful castle with its gorgeous gardens. Was really the highlight of our trip. Collapse

We stayed 3 nights. Food okay but expensive unless you ate in bar by 6pm. Had to wait to register, had to wait for our room to be ready after check in which was 3pm. Beautiful place but not as customer friendly as the other places we stayed. No fishing after September which we were not told this when we booked. I was very disappointed because I was told fishing was available. Town nearby closes early and not much there. A few bars and 2 or 3 stores but nothing there. Room was small, no separate shower. Certainly not worth the money we paid. No tea or coffee in the room. Dromoland Castle 200% better. Need reservations for all dining except bar. Castle was grand but disappointed after staying at Dromoland Castle which offers more. Collapse

Calling the Ashford Castle a hotel really does the property a disservice. The Ashford without exception is the best hotel we have ever stayed at. There is absolutely nothing second class about this Red Carnation property. There are many activities at the Ashford such golf, skeet shooting, horseback riding, golf, archery, falconry, boat rides, or just walking the well maintained and extensive grounds. The only activities that we experienced were the falconry and lake boat ride and both were exceptional. Though we do not play golf, the course looked well maintained and challenging. There is a very nice spa, exercise room, and pool on the property. The staff is absolutely the best and most attentive staff we have experience at any hotel. The property is filled with well maintained antique furniture and historical craftsmanship that is exceptional and a pleasure to be surrounded by. You are surrounded by history with every step you take in the Ashford. Our room was very well furnished and very comfortable. The room service was again exceptional. The bathroom had a heated floor and heated towel racks. All controls in the room were touch controlled to include the large window shade. Every staff member we came into contact with had a smile and greeting. All in the staff from the Bellmen, front desk , restaurant attendants, housekeeping, and activities personnel all genuinely seemed to enjoy their job. Not at any time during our 3 day stay did we observe or encounter any negative experience. There are 3 dining options at the Castle and we ate at all 3. At the Dungeon and Cottage dress is casual and food is good. The George Dining room has a dress requirement and the food and service is exceptional . The wine list has many options available. The George Dining Room is also where breakfast is served and options from the buffet and alacart menu are impressive. Dress is casual for breakfast; but again service is exceptional but not intrusive. If you stay at the castle for 3 or more days you will definitely develop a relationship the dining room staff. If you are looking to relax, be pampered, or experience any of the many experiences the Ashford Castle should be on your short list. As for us, we have no doubt that we will return to the Ashford for another stay. Collapse

Really special setting with friendly, thoughtful staff. Food and selection of teas was fantastic, the warm scones delicious but what really made it for me was the offer to take home what was left over! It was boxed up beautifully - we had a lot left over so it was a real treat to have it the next day. Great to know there is little waste and the staff really encourage the take away. Collapse

We feel so lucky to have been able to experience this wonderful hotel. The rooms are beautiful and the food fantastic but it's the ambience that takes this property to the stratosphere. Falconry, fly fishing, archery and many more activities are available for the energetic and if not so inclined there's afternoon tea, an amazing spa and a comfortable bar. Two irish wolfhounds to greet you if you're there in the morning. We will definitely be back. Collapse
