I had a lovely break in the Lion Quays Hotel Oswestry a couple of years ago and was looking forward to going back again. However this time our room was directly above the area where they kept the peacock who was extremely vocal. (I was not aware of it on my previous stay). Also the same said peacock was free to wander around the hotel grounds which totally freaked me as I have a bird phobia and if anyone else has this problem, this hotel is one to be avoided! Collapse

Very pleasant hotel with spa facilities. Typical of larger hotels it felt a little impersonal. But it was a good hotel, no real grumbles. However, on checking out there seemed to be a failure to understand that I had already paid for my stay through Superbreak and wanted to charge me again. All cleared up once I showed receipt sent by Superbreak to me. My advice bring a copy with you. This was quickly sorted out. Yes I would stay again. Collapse

Stayed here for 1 night. Ellie was fantastic, i had so many requests for our room before we arrived as it was a special birthday for my parter and our anniversary. She was so helpful with everything and it was just as i imagined. Thank you Ellie, you are a credit to the hotel :). There was a spider in the corner of the room, a few cobwebs and balls of dust left in the bed side cabinets but that didnt effect our stay really. The room was lovely, nice view of the canal and fields and had the most comfortable bed ever!! We headed over to the spa and had a really warm welcome from the lady behind the desk. The spa was lovely, really relaxing. We had a dinner booking for 8pm but we got to the restaurant a little before. We were told by a lady (i think her name was Megan but i might be wrong) that our table would be ready in 5 minutes so we had a drink at the bar. 8:35pm we were still sat at the bar, by this point we were starving. No one came to update us on what was going on. I went to speak to someone (Mark) to say we had been sat there a while. Within the next 10 minutes we were sat at our table so that was good, thanks Mark :). He offered us a bottle of wine on him but unfortunately we don't drink wine. Our food came quickly which was very good. We were seated at a table which was ridiculously wobbly and next to a waiter station and through out our meal I had waitresses barging my chair and just hanging around talking about their lives, boyfriends facial hair and singing to the music which was annoying, especially when there were so many tables that needed clearing around us. Open your eyes ladies :). There was atleast 10 members of staff on duty so this shouldn't really happen. One of them was wearing a blazer which to me meant she was in a higher position than the rest however she was the one who forgot about us at the beginning and was lazying around, she doesn't deserve a blazer if that's how it works. Breakfast was nice, lots of choice! even for a fussy eater like me. We then went to check out which was quick and quite blunt if I'm honest. Maybe I expected too much as both me and my partner work in hotels with years and years of experience but anyway, the facilities are there and the location is beautiful. I would definitely return but dine elsewhere. Collapse

Just got back from 3 days at lion quays which I chose for my partners birthday to do the romantic luxury break. Great value for money, the room was newly refurbished and very nice with balcony overlooking the canal. The food in the restaurant was very good both nights also with a great breakfast. The spa was great too. Only little downsides were arriving at 3.30 was told the room was not ready and had to wait 15 mins. And the spa lounge area could do with coffee to go with the tea however besides that I would definitely recommend! Collapse

Stayed for a family wedding. Restaurant for our evening meal is very over priced for the food and the service real let down. Came back from the wedding by mini bus at midnight so very dark. Mini bus was not allowed to pull up outside hotel only in the car park, which would be fine if there were any lights. Had to cross a wood bridge in darkness! That is an accident waiting to happen Collapse

Stayed here for our honey moon. Started off abit negative with check in at 3pm and turning up at 430pm to be sent to the room for it not to be ready. To be fair they sent us for complimentary drinks over at the bar which was a lovely touch. The manager then came and ensured we were in our room very promptly and personally saw us into our room and wished us a happy honeymoon. The room was lovely furnished and the canal side outside space was a lovely element. However the bathroom is tiny with a large shower but minimal space to go to the toilet and wash hands. We then went to the spa but was confused as to what and where the spa was. We spent 25 mins in the pool side thinking it was the spa as it has a jacuzzi and sauna and lovely lightning but did find it odd that there were children in the pool ha ha. We simply weren't shown where the spa was. If it wasn't for a lovely lady over hearing our conversation we wouldn't have found the spa on day one of our visit or maybe at all. However when in the spa it was lovely and very relaxing. After a false start the stay just got better and better. The food is amazing and the service by the staff exceptional. In particular a young girl from London with hair in plaits and a nose ring ( sorry didn't catch her name) and the young bar man was just fantastic. His knowledge of drinks and his ability to match you with one is second to none. Breakfast was beautiful with such a huge range of choice and something for everyone. The surroundings are stunning. You could have been in the middle of the country side. We saw lots of wildlife including a peacock and rabbits. Just lovely. Apart from the false start this place is amazing and I would certainly return. Thankyou for such a wonderful experience Collapse

Stayed here on the last part of a trip with clients and after staying in other hotels over a 10 day period, this one was easy. one of my clients was disabled and the hotel made the disabled room available which was ideal. The carers room was also located close by, so that made things even easier for them. The rooms were of a nice size, quiet and comfortable. The restaurant was large enough for a wheel chair to be pushed up to the table without imposing on anyone else, in fact, the staff made an area for the whole group(12) which made life a lot easier. The food was of good standard. The breakfast was a large help yourself, including everything for a full English and a large selection of continental options. The staff were generally helpful and pleasant. The Spa area(a separate building about 5 mins walk from the main hotel) was nice and depending on your package, you could get most treatments. The only criticism, the price of some of the drinks was a bit steep. Apart from that, I can't really complain. Collapse
