Lovely hotel in touristy city

Classic, well kept older hotel with crisp linens, large towels, comfy beds. Prices in restaurant were over the top so chose to eat out one night and light supper the next. Breakfast had great variety. Small elevators. Helpful, kind staff.

Don't be fooled by the pictures on hotel website. Actually a 2 star hotel with an erroneous 5-star rating

The bad experience started with a visit to the bathroom in the hotel lobby - DIRTY and OLD, trash and an empty soda bottle on the floor and not cleaned for weeks. Our hotel room looked like it had not been renovated since the hotel was built 100 years ago. The walls in the room had water damage to the walls and had not been repaired (the desk clerk told us that the guests did not know how to use the bathrooms properly. - SERIOUSLY ??? guests in a 400+ Euro per night hotel don't know how to use the bathroom fixtures? Even if that were true, the hotel should FIX the damage) The lampshades were falling apart and were GLUED together instead of replaced. The lights were all VERY low wattage; too dark to even read. No ventilation system available. The carpet looked 50+ years old and was dirty. Not even worth 1/2 the price we had been quoted. We ended up staying elsewhere for less that half the price. Our new hotel was CLEAN and newer. Collapse
A Five Star Hotel - Really? I don't think so.

Who on earth rated this hotel five stars? Good Heavens. Unfortunately, I have to totally agree with James B's Review - and am left wondering if we had the same room from the pictures. Location: excellent, five minutes from Interlaken Ost Station and about three minutes from the Harder Kulm Funicular. Also near to the boats for Lake Brienz. Main Areas: the hotel is in well kept grounds and extremely old and elegant in the general areas. The reception was welcoming, as were the reception staff; very polite and helpful. Not one member of staff acknowledged when passing around the public areas and one-day a maid got in the lift and did not speak a word. Each day, in reception between 3 and 5 p.m. complimentary tea/coffee is served. Upon arrival a glass of citrus water is offered to welcome guests - except us! On Thursday evenings a BBQ takes place out on the terrace (beautiful views of the river and Harder Kulm). The BBQ is 60CHF – a lot to pay if you do not eat everything. A very good choice of meats and fish, with jacket potatoes which soon became cold, even in their servers. Inside the restaurant were platters of meats, cheeses and salads (for starters – we had salad with our meat) and an array of desserts and cheeses. The Restaurant: a lovely airy room with beautifully laid tables. Waiting staff, when seen, were very slow. Not one waiter greeted anyone. The first morning we had to ask for coffee – eventually. Plates were not cleared. The buffet breakfast was very good with a wide choice, but replenishing needs to be increased. The a la carte menu at dinner was extremely limited, therefore, only ate in on one occasion and then struggled. The Room: This is where the hotel really falls down. The room looked nothing like the rooms shown on the hotel’s website. I would not consider this even to be a basic room – it was so dark we were unable to see enough to read with all the lights on. Water marks and other stains were on the walls. The light switches did not link up to corresponding lights, so it was hit and miss which lights came on – totally haphazard. The navy sofa had stains on it, therefore, not knowing what they were had no wish to sit on it. On the first day, the bed eventually was sort of made at well-gone 4.00 p.m. and nothing else was touched. At least the bedding was clean and no dust. The bathroom was very clinical – in fact both bathroom and bedroom were depressing. The beading on the side of the shower screen was loose and the shower gel container came off the wall with no attempt to replace it. Also, the container was nearly empty, so can only guess it was a good while since it was filled. Everywhere else I have stayed it is nearly always kept topped up and definitely on every cruise I've been on. No air con, but does need some sort of temperature control. Plenty of channels on the TV, but the actual TV was far too small for the room. A view out of the small window over the bridge to the river. As it was the weekend of the Jungfrau Marathon, every hotel was full. No way is this a five star hotel nor worth the money. Collapse

We have been staying here for the last ten years that's how good this hotel is. The breakfast is fabulous and the choice is second to none and if they don't have on that day what you would like all you have to do is ask and the chef will cook it fresh for you which they did four times while we were staying there for the week holiday. The staff are very friendly and most helpful in fact I know most of the staff like old friends rather than just hotel employees. The hotel is well appointed with a swimming pool and steam room and gym we had a mini suite 407 which is a corner room of the hotel with a sitting room with a all round balcony which on Swiss national day gives you the best bird eye view of the street parade. The other thing we like about this hotel is that you have tea and coffee making facilities in all of the hotel rooms which is a first as most hotels on the continent don't offer this facility but this one does well done. All rooms have A TV with a good selection of programs you can even get all the BBC and itv channels now since they upgraded their TVs systems but there is so much to see you won't need the TV for entertainment. I can recommend this hotel without a doubt the rooms are clean you have maid service twice a day and this completely bath and toiletries are second to none also a wellcome fruit basket sweets chocolate and bottled water you also have a mini bar fridge in all the room as well . This hotel is five star and you do get what you pay for we actually like this hotel better than the Victoria Jungfrau. Collapse

Stayed here with a group of moms and daughters. There are not a lot of options in Interlaken, especially if you are booking last minute. Really liked the location of this hotel and the rooms were nice size for sharing. But the decor is quite dated and the bed comfort so-so. Ok quiet. Had bikes on property to rent, which was great. Probably the best value in town. Breakfast buffet nice. Collapse
