We arrived about 4pm in the Friday, we had a short wait at Reception before check-in. We were given a room in the Mulberry block, double room 2nd floor. We noticed the draw safe wasn't working and mentioned this to Reception after dinner as we didn't notice it wasn't working until we went to dinner at 7.15pm. We were asked to return to the room and some one would come and take a look. We waited 11/2 hours and nobody came so we gave up and went back to the Reception and were given another card to try. We had a couple of drinks at the bar and went back to the room just before midnight. The new card made no difference, the draw wouldn't lock. We gave up until the morning. We pulled back the quilt to get into bed and there was a stain in the sheet. I didn't want to sleep in the bed but had no choice as Housekeeping weren't going to change it until the next morning. We had a treatment booked at 10.00 my husband was called first at 10.00, I was called just after 10.00. I was asked 2 questions and the massage started about 10.07 and I was given a cup of water at 10.22. This was not acceptable for a 30 minute treatment at £45. I complained and was given a facial at 2.30 which lasted 30 minutes. We also had to request different robes as the ones in the room on arrival smelt awful, a really unpleasant oily smell. We went back to the room early evening and the sheet still hadn't been changed and the drawer would still not lock. We complained to Reception again and by the time we checked out on Sunday at approx 11.45 the sheet was never changed. I complained on check-out but we were only offered a £50 voucher towards another stay which binds you having to stay again even if you may not want to because of all the dissatisfaction. We should have been given £50 off our bill. We are not happy at all. Collapse

The stay was lovely and relaxing and the hotel food and restaurant was very good. So many great points to this place with just a few issues that let it down a bit. In the pool area no-one was checking around, so the drinking water ( that was really lovely with fresh lemon and orange) was allowed to run out, towels ran out, locker bins were overflowing. Such a shame that a few minor, easily resolved issues spoilt an otherwise lovely place. Having said that I would definitely go again, and the surrounding grounds were stunning. I had the most fabulous massage as well, quite expensive but worth it. Collapse

On arrival we found the building to be impersonal, lacking in personality & lack of direction signs. Staff were friendly and polite. Booking in process was simple. Rooms were of a good proportion and clean. Very pleased to see that tea and coffee making facilities also water that was supplied free of charge. Beds were very firm. Spa and pool area didn't feel conducive to relaxation and needs a revamp. Nice to find they had a quiet room/relaxation room sadly it was adjoining a main corridor with therapy treatments were taking place and as people walked along the corridor talking loudly this disturb the quietness. Bar area is nice and bright seating could be more comfortable. Cream tea was well worth the money and a must do! Restaurant food was of a very high standard & portions were of a good size. Changing rooms didn't appear to be connected to the main pool area as we found out we had to walk across the reception area to get changed, we may have missed a connecting door but there were no signs to say which way to go from the pool. It was only when asking a member of staff they pointed out a doorway with the letter 'M' on a plate by the side of the door that they identified this was the male changing room. Collapse

Had a Mother's Day treat today from my three girls. Very disappointed. Despite emailing about dietary needs, and filling out another form on arrival about dietary needs, they were not met. There was no main vegan dish... chicken and fish for others, we got the accompanying dishes of rice and pearl barley... or ratatouille which I could eat due to the tomatoes in it. And we had asked beforehand if they had vegan options. Some simple tofu would have been easy. The girl at the reception told us when our treatment time came to arrive ten minutes early, go up the stairs and wait to be called. Nothing happened. Finally two therapists came out and asked if we'd filled out health forms and got buzzers. No, we were told to come up here and wait. My daughter let them know beforehand that she was in early pregnancy. Despite this it had not been noted and she couldn't have the massage treatment. They apologised and said they'd refund. Reading other reviews in google many people are saying how disorganised they are and that they didn't get their refund. In fact, even the girl at reception said this is always happening! My highlight was the massage done by Andrea. She was excellent, well done. I went to the Lifehouse five years ago with my husband and had a great time. The meal was excellent Michelin star standard. A lovely sleeping pod after our massage... things have definitely gone downhill. Collapse

Just had the most amazing weekend away for my boyfriends birthday. The room, treatments and the dinner was all top notch. The staff are all lovely and can’t help you enough. The only one I would moan about was the blonde on the spa reception she needs to learn how to smile as she really wasn’t warm or welcoming and kinda burst our bubble a little bit but not enough that we wouldn’t come back. We booked for a spa weekend here expecting it to be very good from their website and marketing. In truth it was very average, but a few things actually pushed it into a not-so-great experience. 1) The spa was incredibly overcrowded. Difficult to get a lounger, and basically impossible to get in the jacuzzi - we didn't manage to get in there the whole day as it was always completely full. The pool area was dark, and a bit tired looking. Difficult to sit and read - with the volume of people pressed in also not really relaxing. 2) The hairdryer in the room didn't work. My partner, with long wet hair phoned reception to ask for another one. We had to ring 3 times before getting an answer. She was told the hotel was fully booked and they didn't have any spare hairdryers to take one from another room. My partner was upset as we had a dinner reservation an hour later. (By the way, the dinner reservation was 9.30pm, because despite booking two weeks in advance we were told that was the only time.) 3) We then found the TV didn't work either. I then called Reception and advised of this, and queried the hairdryer. My partner was now really upset. The Receptionist said that 'house keeping might have a spare one, but I don't know and can't find out'. I had to be persistent in insisting she goes to check. It was very clear that the answer she had given earlier was an 'I can't be bothered to help so will fob you off by just saying we don't have spares.' She tried the same with me too, but with persistence realised I would not be fobbed off too! At £300 a night in a spa hotel it isn't unreasonable to ask for a working TV and hairdryer. She later came up with another hairdryer - who knows where it came from but it flooded the room with a smell of burning when used! 4) Dinner was incredibly average. Starters completely tasteless. I ordered steak and asked for it 'medium'. It arrived black/charred, and was as tough as boot leather. I finished it, just, as we hadn't eaten all day and were very hungry. I raised this with the waitress, who didn't seem at all bothered and basically said 'oh ok' not even a sorry. It struck me that they had received several complaints that evening as she just didn't seem at all surprised - or concerned that we had basically just told her we weren't happy with the quality. 5) They use premixed cocktails - despite having an impressive looking bar. So on ordering a cocktail to go with dinner was told 'we've sold out'. A rather odd thing to be told when you have a bar full of the appropriate spirits and mixers on show! Clearly nobody who actually knew what to do, beyond opening a bottle and pouring it into a glass. 6) Breakfast the next day was just about OK. Hot food was good, but juice, pastry etc basically all gone by the time we arrived and not replenished. It has a Travelodge feel to it. On checking out there was a queue of about 8-9 couples waiting - backing almost to the front door. One girl on Reception to process all these people at what, fairly obviously, would be the busiest reception time. No apology for keeping us waiting for about 25 minutes in line. The most tell-tale thing at check out that basically summed up the whole experience of LifeHouse was the Receptionist never even asking us if we had a nice stay. She presented a final (unitemised) bill and a card machine. It was a quick and 'not really bothered' transaction. Overall, this place was disappointing. Less overcrowding in the spa, staff that are helpful on hearing of problems and seem like they actually care if guests are having a nice time are essential changes to make. We probably wouldn't stay here again in honesty. Collapse

Stayed here several times over the last few years. It was very quiet this visit. Still had to wait till 3 PM to get into the room. The bedroom was clean and ok. . Bed comfortable. Bedding clean. (Normally we pay the extra for a garden room but didn’t on this visit. ) Shower was coming away from fixture needed attention. While waiting for the treatment noticed the upstairs coffee and juice bar was closed and no magazines to look at while waiting for treatments. ( Only a men’s magazine. ) Both off us had the chill out massage . Which is a deep relaxing massage tailor made to treat 3 key areas of the body that have a build up of tension. I wasn’t asked what 3 areas I would like concentrated upon I did point out I had tension in my neck on the left hand side. The treatment was ok but not the best. My friend was asked what 3 areas to concentrate on. And she had a scalp massage which I wasn’t. Which I would have found really beneficial. Left wondering why we had booked the same treatments and experience 2 very different treatments. Not cheap at £85 each. Dinner was a let down. The vegetarian mezze sharer was fine . But the corn fed chicken in the cider Bradley apple with broccoli and rosti was terrible so salty we couldn’t eat it. Did mention this to the waiter who gave us complementary coffee’s Breakfast was ok We then used the spa. The jaccucci and swimming pool were ok but Looking tired. Needs up dating. More sun beds than last visit. Our stay was ok when it should have been better than that. The whole place is looking tired. Needs some of the money taken, put back into it so that you experience an amazing stay. Owners need to do something to make their customers want to come back and experience a brilliant spa stay. Instead of an ok average stay. Collapse

I booked in with my husband for the Romantic Getaway 2 night break and it didn’t disappoint. We decided to upgrade the room to a signature double, the room was extremely spacious and had everything we needed. I knew there would be a hairdryer and toiletries in the room but was amazed to find a set of GHDs as well, a lovely touch. Part of the package was the Hidden Sanctuary experience which was unbelievable. We were made to feel at ease the whole time and the whole thing had a luxurious feel. I would advise anyone to try it! The reason I have given it a 4 star not a 5 is we were advised to arrive for our treatment 15minutes early and were then kept another 15minutes before we were collected with no apology for the delay. The lunch and dinner were delicious but the buffet breakfast was a let down, burnt sausages & cold hash browns, we opted for the cold breakfast on day 2. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will be returning again. Collapse
