Lifehouse has 89 guest rooms all with wonderful views of the historic gardens or courtyard, 35 treatment rooms, plus gym, outdoor fitness circuit, yoga / pilates studio, swimming pool, thermal spa area, relaxation areas, 15 manicure and pedicure stations, and a spa boutique. The spa offers a range of treatments from Clarins and Decleor in addition to a variety of wellbeing therapies and the new hidden sanctuary experience

The dinner was very nice but rather expensive for the amount of food we were given. The hotel was in a quiet location with very little noise at night. We felt a little out of place at ages 50-60 as the other quests were all aged 20-30. This was really a younger persons hotel. Collapse

I was told The Lifehouse was near Frinton on Sea. I remember Frinton as a quiet, quaint seaside town so headed off expecting something to match. What I found was startlingly different and very special. Lifehouse is an amazing blend of old and new with a magnificent modern spa built around old English Heritage stone remains of Thorpe Hall, and acres of grounds that provide a true sense of tranquillity. I posted some photos on Facebook and every comment was a 'wow'. My stay included dinner in Water Lilies Restaurant. The Lamb and Pinot Noir may not have been the healthiest of options but they tasted great. Breakfast was much more in tune - a very tasty smoothie made to order! Then came the highlight. An invigorating swim and an 'Iconic Massage'. I warn readers that after 50 minutes on a Lifehouse massage table you don't have a care in the world. I took a walk in the gardens before getting back into my car to head for home. In 24 hours I felt like I had enjoyed a weekend away. I will be treating my wife and her best friend to a trip to The Lifehouse. I am truly impressed. Collapse

I booked the Wellness detox package from Life House and am very glad that I did. After a 2 and a half hour drive I was ready to stretch my legs. The reception building is modern with lots of glass. It feels bright and airy, as does the rest of the resort. I stayed in room 82 in the Mulberry building. This looks like a white modern box which fits really well into the setting. The room was spacious, quite plain but with all mod cons. The view over the original manor gardens is spectacular and the highlight of the room. The bed was massive and comfortable. There was a juliet style balcony which was great as the weather was very hot during my stay and I could leave the door open. The package that I was on was great value and all the meals /juices were surprisingly tasty for a detox regime. I had a very helpful consultation with Sue at the start and a follow up during my stay to make sure that everything was going well. Meals are taken in a contemporary restaurant with wonderful staff on hand to take care of you. Drinks /snacks can also be taken in other areas, the courtyard was particularly popular because of the lovely weather. All the classes were complimentary if you are on the package and I really enjoyed the HIIT class. I genuinely did not feel hungry at all during my 3 night stay. The evening hot chocolate was a highlight. My package included various treatments and Margaret, Angie D and Zoe were wonderful. The dress code was relaxed, most people wore robes during the day, changing into smart casual after 6.30 in the bar/restaurant space. All the staff were extremely nice, checking that you had everything you needed to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Some guests were alone, others in couples or a few women-only groups celebrating birthdays etc. I will definitely be back. Collapse

Whilst the service, rooms & dining was excellent, the hotel appears not to be investing money in it's upkeep. Good points: Excellent polite & helpful service throughout the hotel. A lovely room overlooking the lake with tea & coffee facilities. Excellent full English breakfast & dinner (although a restricted menu for this). Good body massage & facial. Lovely grounds for walking in. Not so good points: The swimming pool area looked very tired. The sun loungers were crammed together. There were no bikes on hire as advertised on line. As a result we had to walk around the lovely grounds but there were no sign posts for the trails. There is no air conditioning or fridge in the rooms. The carpets are shabby & stained. The dining room played classical but very depressing back ground music (& we like most classical music). We spoke to some locals who were opposed to the building of houses on he hotel boundary & said that they wondered if the hotel is running itself down to sell to developers extending their development ? We certainly hope not as it'll be a great shame as the hotel could be back to the high standard that we experienced a few years ago if money was invested in it. Collapse

We had been given a voucher, for Christmas, to have afternoon tea. I thought that I would like a male pedicure as I have had one before and it was very relaxing. The pedicure was one of the best I have had. Zoe , the young lady who done the pedicure, was very professional and highly skilful in the way it was done. It was 45 minutes of sheer bliss. The afternoon tea was just as enjoyable. We were offered a selection of sandwiches as well as cakes and scones with butter, jam and clotted cream. There was plenty of tea to accompany the food. The whole atmosphere of the Lifehouse Spa was relaxing and very enjoyable. They offer some very good choices and I would highly recommend it. Collapse

As an avid Spa goer, Lifehouse has been on my wish list to visit for a while due to the good things I'd heard. So recently, I booked for my Sister and I to stay overnight as a special treat for her 30th birthday. Overall our stay was adequate but given how much money I spent, I expected more than just adequate! First thing I noticed was that the main reception seem really short staffed! There was only 1 person on and several people waiting to check in when we arrived so we were rushed off to our rooms with no directions, no offer to help with luggage (both my sister and I are pregnant) and no information about breakfast times or expected check out time. The room was modern and clean with great views of a lake. We then both had Mum to be massages which were brilliant, although the description of the massage online said that they would use a "Little Butterfly maternity massage Oil" and that the rest of the oil used in the treatment we would get to take home and yet neither of us were given the remainder of our oil. Dinner was really nice and the blond lady in the Restaurant was brilliant, with great customer service. She also arranged to deliver desserts to us with a "Happy Birthday" message written on the plate, which was lovely. However, I would like to just make a point that charging £6.00 for an Orange Juice and Lemonade is beyond ridiculous! Back in the room that night it was really hot and both being pregnant, we have trouble sleeping anyway. So on the advice of the information in the room, I called Reception on 5 occasions with the intention of asking for a fan for the room. All of my calls went unanswered and consequently I had an awful nights sleep and have now returned home feeling more tired than when I checked in! Breakfast was a real disappointment! The weather is so hot and yet the cold drinks were not cold. The cooked breakfast was also cold and you could tell the hash browns had been sitting there a long time. I ordered poached eggs from the Kitchen and had to send them back because they were not cooked properly and being pregnant I could eat them like that. When the waitress returned with 2 new eggs they were also not cooked either so I left them and opted for toast. Today we had a further 3 treatments each; Gel Manicure, Gel Pedicure and a Facial. We chose the Gel mani / pedi's because we were advised they were chip resistant and likely to last up to 3 weeks (even longer on toes) and yet we have BOTH got home this evening and have chips in our nail polish already! Not really satisfied with that given I paid £55 each for the manicure and £45 each for the pedicure only for it to chip in less than 1 day! Overall, I have left feeling I have spent an awful lot of money in the last 24 hours and not received any value for my money. If this was a cheap overnight spa package for £200-300 I'd say fair enough but I spent around £650 only to leave feeling disappointed and a bit cheated to be honest. If you're thinking of booking this Spa, don't. You're better off booking somewhere cheaper, the treatments and overall package is no better here than at many of the cheaper Spa's in Essex. Collapse

We have been to champneys, centre parks and regular visitors of nirvana which we live nearby to. It's very overpriced for one day, it cost me 420 for lunch, mini facial and full body massage, for my son and myself. The pool is small and hot and the so called thalassotherapy pool was very small hot and lots of the buttons were loose and didn't seem to work very well. There were no jacuzzis, very small sauna and steam room, the Buffett was very good although nothing was labelled so we had to keep asking what the dishes were as my son is a vegetarian, none of the staff seemed to know what they were serving they had to keep going to ask someone and all the serving spoons were mixed so my son had to keep getting a clean spoon to use as he didn't want any meat commtamination. It misses an outdoor pool, jacuzzis and more relaxation areas, I feel it is definetly not value for money and the two therapist I had were just ok, I requested a firm massage but the therapist I had was just very average. I cannot comment on the accomodation and we were staying nearby, but it does seem in need of some modernisation. Also I found it full of couples where as other spas we go to have a mix of people. We did feel quite uncomfortable at times as there were demonstrative couples every where you went. I also enquired about booking a nail treatment but was told fully booked all day. Although the receptionist was quite accommodating when we were told our treatments were very early in the day, normally we book a time we require the treatments but here they seem to allocate you an appointment time when you arrive, so I would never come back here again, it was only by luck it wasn't a busy weekend and they could change our treatments to a bit later in the day.
