Lifehouse has 89 guest rooms all with wonderful views of the historic gardens or courtyard, 35 treatment rooms, plus gym, outdoor fitness circuit, yoga / pilates studio, swimming pool, thermal spa area, relaxation areas, 15 manicure and pedicure stations, and a spa boutique. The spa offers a range of treatments from Clarins and Decleor in addition to a variety of wellbeing therapies and the new hidden sanctuary experience

The hotel was modern, very clean and the spa facilities were excellent. Room spacious with a well lit large makeup mirror which was a bonus. The dinner was very nice but rather expensive for the amount of food we were given. The hotel was in a quiet location with very little noise at night. We felt a little out of place at ages 50-60 as the other quests were all aged 20-30. This was really a younger persons hotel. Collapse

I was told The Lifehouse was near Frinton on Sea. I remember Frinton as a quiet, quaint seaside town so headed off expecting something to match. What I found was startlingly different and very special. Lifehouse is an amazing blend of old and new with a magnificent modern spa built around old English Heritage stone remains of Thorpe Hall, and acres of grounds that provide a true sense of tranquillity. I posted some photos on Facebook and every comment was a 'wow'. My stay included dinner in Water Lilies Restaurant. The Lamb and Pinot Noir may not have been the healthiest of options but they tasted great. Breakfast was much more in tune - a very tasty smoothie made to order! Then came the highlight. An invigorating swim and an 'Iconic Massage'. I warn readers that after 50 minutes on a Lifehouse massage table you don't have a care in the world. I took a walk in the gardens before getting back into my car to head for home. In 24 hours I felt like I had enjoyed a weekend away. I will be treating my wife and her best friend to a trip to The Lifehouse. I am truly impressed. Collapse

This was our fifth visit which says how much we have enjoyed the Lifehouse however this time we felt that standards have slipped with regards to decor etc. The room felt hotter than other stays and the bathroom looked tired around some of the edges. In the spa steam room there were a number of small tiles missing from the seating and in the Hidden Sanctuary treatment room the ceiling had signs of being patched up. The bar lounge ceiling also had some patched up work. We saw other issues on our travels around the buildings. This is a shame as the treatments are still really good. We tried Hidden Sanctuary for the first time and it was fantastic and would definitely do it again. Likewise the tropical massage and facial were really good. Breakfast and dinner were very good and the afternoon tea was also good. The grounds are wonderful to stroll round and very much add to the relaxation experience. The staff were polite and helpful. So in summary we will go back but the Lifehouse needs to address the maintenance issues otherwise it could become quite tatty in which case it would lose its appeal to us at least Collapse

Upon arrival we was seen to very quickly and sorted fast with clear directions to find the room. Room was very nice big bed and comfortable and very large bathroom and shower cubicle. However I found the room myself to be really hot and we had to leave the room with balcony door open to cool for our arrival later in the evening. Towels matts robes etc all very clean and In nice condition. The slippers that were provided were to small and quite tight on the foot. Only downside to the room for me was the odd stains around the carpet in the room other than that I felt they were clean. We brought a bottle of champagne with us to have in our room but there is no fridge in there so we asked for ice bucket and glasses only to be told that they charge £10 for the privilege. Should you visit and want to bring champagne bring a bag of ice and glasses and fill the sink up. On the time we visited the facilities were not to stretched as it says in other reviews so we managed to get the most out of steam rooms ,sauna ,pool ,jacuzzi etc. A few parts or the jacuzzi broken chipped tiles and wobbly head rests but was clean. We were first timers at a place like this and was put of instantly I’m not sure if £70 - £120 is average for 30- 40 mins of treatments but I think it is so overpriced for somebody to just rub your back (correct me if wrong). Bar area was a nice place to be comfortable and good soft music playing. Bar staff were friendly enough and good choice behind the bar. Dinner (3 course) was included in our voucher so when we looked at the menu we was a bit disappointed to find most the choices come with a surcharge. Food was ok nothing amazing but decent enough if I was paying the asking menu price however I would of been disappointed I don’t feel the food they offer reflected the prices asked on the menu. Waiter staff very good friendly and attentive enough again restaurant clean and decor to our satisfaction. After dinner went back to our now cool room and slept very well bed was very comfortable. Balcony door was open all night to keep room cool. Breakfast buffet...... Lots and lots of choice you will not go hungry here very healthy options and cooked breakfast. I went for cooked breakfast it was not the hottest food I’ve ever eaten but I just accepted it as I was hungry and the cooked breakfast food was all hot held in chafing dishes. Tea and coffee pleasant enough and that was hot. Check out fast process again but with confusing bill and we was told to ignore the quantity numbers didn’t quite get it we just paid what was Asked. Over all we had 3 course meal and overnight stay with breakfast and a nice addition of a pool sauna steam room etc for £257 (2 people) (no treatments) So not to bad I think. Could of saved £10 if we brought our own ice I feel the ice bucket charge was ridiculous and was not to pleased with it a fridge and water would of been much appreciated in the room. I think what I can take away from this is spa back rubs etc is not for me and I would never spend my money on it. I just like a bar alcohol dinner bed and breakfast all done for me so I would perhaps choose elsewhere lovely hotel just a bit to clinical and to many women spending there husbands money. Collapse

First visit to this spa and we all enjoyed the break, however a lot could have been done to improve our experience. Pros: A couple of members of staff went above and beyond. Georgia who works in the shop and Jean in the restaurant. Also the dark haired younger gentleman who was in the bar - sorry I didn't catch his name The grounds are beautiful and lovely to spend time in Our rooms were comfy and clean. Lots of space in both the bathroom and bedroom, a nice shower, big fluffy towels and tea and coffee making facilities Dinner in the restaurant was lovely. Puddings not so lovely My massage was very enjoyable, although the therapist ran late and it was cut short by 10 minutes. Those I was with felt their massages were average. I asked that a message be given to my friends to let them know to go on ahead for afternoon tea as my massage was delayed and I was told this happened but it didn't Cons A lot of staff do not seem particularly welcoming or even competent. One member of staff took 15 minutes to take an order for four coffees and cake. He had problems remembering what cake was ordered and how to input the order into the till. We then had to wait another 15 minutes until the coffee arrived even though we chased a couple of times. The cake came just as we were about to cancel the order and after we had all drank our coffee. We kept being told everyone was so busy and whilst being busy is commendable, it should not impact on client experience. To be honest there appeared to be more than enough staff to cope with demand, but insufficient training / processes. I asked to speak to the bar manager to complain about our wait and the incident and although I was initially advised he would be a couple of minutes it resulted in another long wait. Only good point was a refund of the coffee and cake bill of £35 but this did leave us all a little stressed before leaving. We were also charged £10 under breakfast although breakfast was included with our package. Upon querying this with reception, we were told it was probably something we had ordered with dinner as for some reason this often happened but they couldn't tell us what it was. After some to-ing and fro-ing this was also refunded so worth carefully checking the bills. Pool, pool beds, sauna and steam were far too packed. However this didn't stop us enjoying them to a degree. Collapse

I've been here a few times and really enjoy it and would return The treatments are always amazing not rushed and high quality 5/5. The pool area is very relaxing and I've always found it clean not dirty like a recent review said 5/5 Afternoon tea was very nice 5/5 Dinner is disappointing 2.5/5 every time I go tbh but i like the spa a lot so overlook that. The rooms although very pleasant and spotless are always too hot and this last visit like my first overnight visit we were unable to sleep as the rooms were too hot but got cold with the door open and also the security factor comes into having the door open (no window in our room just patio doors) had about an hours sleep which defeats the object of going in fact I've marked it down from a 4/5 to a 3/5 (almost 2/5)with this in mind!! Shame because the beds are very comfy (although creaky) Also every time we've been one of us has felt unwell at some point whether it's the heat, the food, the drink who knows. I think I would return but would maybe opt for day spa next time until air con or fans are fitted in the rooms Collapse
