Most of the things about this Hotel are fine. The rooms are a good size and clean, the beds are comfortable, the wifi works well, the shower is OK. The location is excellent, close to Central Park and an easy walk to many of NY's art galleries and museums. However, there are downsides. The lifts are terrible with very long waits. There is no fridge or coffer making facilities in the room. They charge a 'facility fee' of $15 per day (actually about $18 with tax) for things which most place provide for free. The restaurants are eye-wateringly expensive. We didn't use them as we calculated that it would cost about $40 per person per day for breakfast, and we are not interested in eating burgers, which is their specialty. Collapse

We are frequent visitors to NY and never stayed at this Hotel, I heard they had the best burger joint in town and we decided to try it out as the weather was not the best to be walking around, I am super disappointed in the service of the Hotel, as I showered one day we ran out of hot water and when we called front desk instead of apologizing for. The inconvenience they were very rude, also by no means would I recommend to ask for room service as we paid almost $250 for 2 ave rage breakfast (omelette and toast), when I complained to the manager she reminded me that "room service is usually expensive" which I appreciated as I will never come back to stay in this Hotel, specially having so many more options at very decent prices now a days!!! Oh and by the way the rooms need some serious updating! Collapse

We chose LPM due to its location and I got a great rate through a Starwood friend. We also had our 2 girls and it was kid friendly. Loews was the most kid friendly NY hotel we have stayed and the best NY hotel all around by far was the Langham. I read some TA reviews where the customers gushed over the staff at LPM who they said gushed over them. We stayed in a parallel universe. Hands down, least friendly staff for any hotel we have stayed. Opinion: very unhappy people. Check in and check out were fine but nothing beyond that and we were never asked how we enjoyed our stay. We walked in and out 56th entrance over 20 times during our 6 days with our 2 daughters and the doormen (or bell staff) NEVER once smiled or greeted us coming or going. Concierges never smiled and frankly, in our 6 days I never saw one person use their services. Tip: hail a cab or catch your Uber from the 57th st entrance. Avoid unfriendly doormen who enjoy hailing you a cab for $ and the street goes both east and west. The coffee/bar restaurant Knave is never busy esp at night and staff don't smile or greet you walking through. Perhaps it is because these are the most expensive drinks we have encountered in the many fine NYC hotels. A latte is $8; beer $15; cocktail $23; all plus taxes and tip! There are 2 starbucks on either 56 or 57 a 1 minute walk away. Great market with all kinds of goodies (fresh food and drink) to the left on 57th. We have eaten at Norma's on a previous NY trip. Prices are ridiculously high for brunch food ($30 pancakes/omelettes) especially with 2 kids so we didn't go this time. Pros: -Great Location. 2 blocks from Central Park and 57th st subway less than a block away. -Junior suite was a good size -excellent house keeping -View of Central Park from pool on 42nd floor -Good water pressure in shower -Great shampoo etc from Moonshine -sofa bed was perfectly fine for kids. Not great, but it is relative as most are terrible! -king bed was average/good. Not the best mattress ever, but not the worst! Cons: -Generally unfriendly staff. Exceptions: housekeeping greeted us and smiled. Young woman at pool desk was pleasant. Female engineer and male plumber were very professional and nice. We encountered a lot of staff; the exceptions were few and far between. -1 robe in closet. Got a second one without asking. No slippers in sight. -Worst/slowest elevators EVER. Waited over 15 minutes on Sat night and 5 or more minutes regularly. -very odd temperature control. They truly have a cold (63 degrees) and a hot (74 degrees) setting. Heat only comes on or goes off at those temperatures. You have to listen for it. We basically left thermostat off and turned it on to 74 before we left for dinner then turned it off when we returned. It was always too hot ... Frankly not a normal headache to deal with for this class of hotel. -No coffee maker in room or coffee service in lobby in lieu of. -have to order a fridge for personal use. Smallest fridge ever. Huge dent. But it was cold! -Terrible placement of electric outlets. The main accessible outlets were under the desk so had to crawl on ground. -No complimentary bottled water. -Asked for the complimentary newspaper delivery and it didn't arrive on day 1. Asked again. It arrived on day 2 and 3; not on day 4 or 5. -The offensive $15 a day facilities fee covers "high-speed internet ... , use of gravity fitness and pool, and unlimited local and toll free calls". Internet is free when you book on line so doesn't count. I get paying a fee IF you use the great private gym. As for the pool, guests should not have to pay to use a hotel pool that does not have spa like atmosphere. It has a lovely view but it is a tiny pool full of kids and there is no jacuzzi/hot tub. I don't think the great location overcomes the many (mostly fixable!) shortfalls of this property and we will stay elsewhere next time. Collapse
