I used to like Meridiens. Nice rooms, good croissants given French roots. But that was 20 years ago. Food still good but unfortunately rooms are exactly as I remembered- as don't think they've been updated since! Let me start with positives: great location for theater and Central Park area. No issues with service. Norma's is crowded but fun for bfast. My real issue is with hotel itself. Rooms are dark with well worn carpets. I must not be the only one who found it hot and stuffy as there's a cherry note on the thermostat "if it's too hot or cold call and we'll make it right." Solution was to have housekeeping unlock the window so my options were hot and stuffy or noisy with bugs (and God knows what else...) as no screen and 56th street not known for peace and quiet. Hallways equally dark and elevators slow. No security (as in no key card required to access rooms). The only outlets by desk require you to get on your hands and knees to access. I guess people didn't have iPhones, iPads or laptops when these rooms were designed? Not even a luggage rack. Odd comment but avoid the toiletries. I couldn't help noticing an odd smell in the room and again at play that night. It was "eau du skunk and insect repellent." I finally figured out the smell was on me- horrors!- as it was from the hotel supplied moisturizer. Collapse

Hubby surprised me for my birthday by taking me to NYC. We stayed here for 4 nights. Finding the hotel is simple due to its superb midtown location so handy to some great attractions and subway stations. Check in was quick and simple and the staff were all really pleasant and helpful particularly Eddie who was really good fun to talk to and had some great recommendations. Our room was surprisingly spacious for NYC and the bed was super comfortable. Water pressure in the shower was fantastic and we were really pleased the room overall. The rooftop pool is beautiful, the view of the city and park from up there is incredible. Unfortunately we only got using it once during our stay for about 15-20 mins. Which brings me to my only real point of complaint with the hotel and may not be popular with some so let me preface this next statement by saying I myself am a parent. There are children in the pool all day and evening EVERYDAY. Some people actually seem to use the pool facilities as childcare while they bury their faces in kindles/iPads/books they expect the pool staff to mind their kids. We used the pool at 8pm and we even had to wait until some children got out as there was no room for us. I don't mind kids at all as I said I'm a parent too but I watch my child and don't let her jump on strangers heads or deliberately splash and kick them. It was not relaxing and not worth the money. We overheard 2 other young couples complaining in the lift that they'd tried using the pool but couldn't as it was always rammed with children. I appreciate the hotel attracts families and that's wonderful but perhaps put a curfew on the pool facilities for children and slot some time in for adults only? I.e. Between 6am-9am and between 7pm-10.30pm adults only. I promise you it would make a lot of guests more satisfied whilst still catering to families. There was one point I actually felt bad for the pool attendants having to police people's children because the parents let them run wild. Overall I found the hotel fantastic and I would definitely use it again- I just hope you would consider the pool feedback as not being able to use it took away from our experience. Collapse

We stayed for just under a week, so had a good chance to experience this hotel. Good location, close to Columbia Circle, Central Park and walkable to Broadway/Times Square. Poor service from restaurant, check in and lobby staff. We were 3 adults and they gave us a really poor pop up bed for the 3rd adult and then said that if we wanted anything better we would have to pay an additional $100 per night. There is a pool, small and quite crowded with kids, but a nice view and ok for a very quick dip. There is an overpriced restaurant so breakfast was taken outside, except once, where the service was poor and the food badly cooked, and orders were incorrect. Waiters bordering on surly. Nice bar, but again, expect to pay $15 for a draft lager. Continuous pressure to tip the door staff every time you wanted a taxi, were carrying a bag etc, and we could see that other guests were being approached all the time and refusing service for their bags etc. We don't recommend, and we purchased this as a BA City package, business class flight and hotel. Bottom line up front: this is a superior quality hotel and offers decent rates for Manhattan. I booked on Priceline, which I will admit is a bit like rolling the dice, but I have usually been quite happy. Le Parker Meridien was a good find! Centrally located, in walking distance to most midtown activities and with a subway stop at the corner and paid parking right next door. They have valet parking also, but the self park option will save you lots of money. Pre-book the parking (SP+) to save even more. The subway stop will take you towards the World Trade Centre or out to Queens. Lots of transfer options to other lines. The hotel rooms are diverse. My original room was small (booked via Priceline) but I was able to upgrade and pay a small difference in price. The junior suite put me on the "tower" side (floors 23-42) which was much nicer. The room was well-appointed and spotless. Large bathroom (not always the case in NYC hotels). The bar is quite nice with street access (57th St) but pricey, even for NYC. With so many food choices nearby and throughout Manhattan I didn't eat at the hotel restaurant but it always seemed busy, so it is probably okay. The pool (42nd floor) has a breathtaking view of Central Park, and it was surprisingly busy given all the other things NYC has to offer. The staff were excellent, service oriented, multilingual, and genuinely helpful. Collapse
