The Langham is fantastic. It is majestic, impressive and we loved our stay. My only complaint is that it wasn't a long enough stay!! This incredible property has gorgeous rooms, bathrooms - all updated - and incredible common areas. Every staff member from the housekeeping staff to the front desk employees and every person I interacted with was friendly, helpful and incredibly accommodating. Each person made it a goal to make the guests feel welcome and to have a memorable stay. The Japanese gardens and all courtyards were immaculate and beautiful. The pool was fine, but a bit basic for this level of property. The bed was comfortable with many pillow options. Pasadena is gorgeous, and this property is surrounded by a gorgeous neighborhood. I 100% recommend staying at this lovely property. I can't wait to come back!! Collapse

-Okay people....Here's the real scoop. My husband and I have been staying at The Huntington for OVER 10 YEARS. When we would come up the driveway, we would refer to it as our "home away from home". When it first became a Ritz Carlton, it was impeccably run, the rooms were lovely, the grounds were quiet and well-maintained, the guests were refined and the staff was abundant and well trained. Over the last years of ownership by the Ritz, the hotel did decline in many areas, including maintaining the hotel at its best. I had high hopes when The Langham took ownership. Sadly, I have not been impressed - the rates were raised, the service declined, and the whole feel of the place changed. So sad. -This past weekend my husband and I stayed at the hotel for one night (Saturday). The place was a MAD HOUSE! We know from past experience that if you want QUIET, you never take a room: 1) in the Lanai building, facing the pool - this means crazy screaming kids and pool party central; or 2) anywhere near (next to, or above) the bar area (Tap Room) - can be so noisy at night it will shake the walls. We got a room on the outside (non-pool) side of the Lanai building, third floor. It was quiet. It was also a plain, standard room, with the smallest bathroom I have ever seen in this hotel - smaller than a bathroom at the Hampton Inn/Marriott. No blotter on the desk (did somebody steal it?) No luxury bedding. No small pillows. Nothing - seriously, just a basic room. When we got into our room, as well as that evening, and when we left the next morning, the hallway was cluttered with multiple plastic trash bags full of dirty linens, left over room service carts and trays, trash, etc. What?? I don't expect to see this in a luxury hotel. -We went down to The Terrace at about 2:00 p.m. to get a light lunch. Big mistake. Inside the restaurant, there were several large parties of people - one looked like a group of 20 or more at a long table put together, and several VERY LOUD tables of 6 to 8, literally making it impossible to have a relaxing meal inside the restaurant. We asked for a quiet table. There just wasn't one inside - we left. It was boiling hot outside, so we did not opt to eat on the outside terrace. Apparently, the hotel does not ask guests to quiet down in these situations and other guests are made to suffer. -We went to the outside "grill" area, next to the pool. We ordered two "Dodger dogs" and two soft drinks. The cost was $18.00 (plus tax and tip). It took almost a half hour for us to get our food - the outdoor grillmaster apparently waited until he had more than one hot dog order before he started "grilling". We asked for our meal "to go" - it was boiling outside, as I said. We got our two hot dogs in boxes, CUT IN HALF, because they would not fit in the box (our $9.00 hot dogs). We had to ask for lids for our drinks. That took another 10 minutes. When I paid the bill, putting the charges on our room, I made sure that I returned the folder and slip to the bar, and told the server that I did not feel safe leaving the folder at the patio table. Well....here's the kicker - when we checked out the next morning, someone had charged two beers to our room!!!!! Unbelievable. Of course, when I explained to the front desk that the entire pool area was "crazy town" yesterday, they were well aware and there apparently were other complaints; they of course took the charge off of our bill. I noticed lots of college age "guests" mingling around the pool area - not sure whether they were registered guests or just invited by other friends. TONS of kids with pool toys in the pool, not enough lounge chairs, not enough umbrellas, not enough servers, really no pool attendants to help, etc. etc. No longer live music by the pool (they used to have a live guitarist, mellow relaxing pool style music). Also - parents had their small children in the jacuzzi with pool toys and floaties!!!! What?????? This should not be allowed. -When we returned that evening, we could smell the chlorine they had dumped into the pool for a mile - scary toxic. Decided NOT to do laps in the morning. -There was no newspaper at our door in the morning (it wasn't even offered at check-in), no newspapers to be had at The Terrace in the morning when we had breakfast. Luckily, we sat outside early, in relative quiet, and were gone by 10:00 a.m.. -We were told to make sure that we called the car valet by phone at least 15 minutes before we came down to get our car. I called. I was told that they were not taking phone calls and that they would not bring my car around until I presented my ticket at the valet in person. WHAT??????? I was told at the valet stand that they were so busy, they had no room to park cars for guests coming down for pick-up. I have never had that happen at this hotel, or any other hotel - ever. -So - here's what I like about The Huntington: the traditional decor and ambiance - hope they won't change that too; the shower heads (fantastic!); afternoon tea in the lovely public room; and the location. It seems that the hotel is trying to cater to too many large groups, families with children (without enforcing any rules), and low-end clientele. There is no relaxation here anymore - too many people, too little service. And I'm really sad about my home away from home going downhill. I want it to be revived and restored - is that possible??? I'll keep you posted. Collapse

I have stayed here a few times. Recently on business with 3 associates. Everyone raved it was the best stay of our weeklong filming excursion through California. We all slept fantastic and loved our rooms on the 5th floor. The breakfast was excellent. The attention to detail was superb, and the inner courtyard is so beautiful, though no time to enjoy it on this visit. Love the railroad history of the hotel and the feel of the neighborhood as well. A few comments mentioned need for updating. I was quite pleased but I'm sure the hotel management will look into that as there is some validity there. Nothing whatsoever that would prevent me from coming back at this time, but I hope it stays magnificent as I certainly hope to return! Collapse
