Hotel lobby, corridors and lounges are very cosy and warm with a similar décor to what my Grandmother has, not necessarily in a negative way. It was warm and inviting. Although staff were friendly and helpful, the AM Receptionist was unapologetically late and resulted in my pre-empted 7am checkout interrupting my schedule by 30 minutes, which not only resulted in my being late for check in at the airport, but also left me to deal with a grumpy taxi driver who had been kept waiting. The gym facilities were excellent for the type of hotel, and the pool is large and clean. Both the steam room and sauna work well. The room itself was exceptionally clean and the bathroom appeared to be newly furbished and beautiful; however the lock on the main bedroom door was clearly broken and on each occasion had to be turned for over a minute before it locked or unlocked. The radiator in my room was broken and an attempt to compensate in the way of an electric heater had been provided; however, upon plugging in the electric heater in a bid to warm myself up, the plug sparked and blew the heater completely. Upon arrival for dinner in the Restaurant at 7pm, there were a multitude of staff hoovering in the middle of the bar area and messing around. After standing at the bar for a few ignored minutes, I had to ask if I could have a drink and a table. Although the menu had a variety of choice, the food itself was quite inedible. I chose the set menu and had 3 courses; the soup was not fresh and had clearly been microwaved to a temperature so piping hot that I burnt the inside of my mouth. When ordering a tuna steak, I wasn't asked how I would like it cooked/ graded and it arrived so overdone that it was hard to chew and lacked in any sort of taste; it had also clearly been microwaved. The 'stir fried' vegetables were a pile of mush on the plate and were oozing oil. I decided to play safe and stick with classic profiteroles for dessert; they were not homemade and the sauce was the gluey 'microwaveable' type. The portion sizes were of an eloquent sufficiency, it is just a shame that they were ineloquently edible. Be warned that the hotel is quite far away from the main town of St Peter Port, but it is only five minutes from the Airport. To summarise, the room was priced at only £49, so upon regarding avoidance of the restaurant, you could say the room was adeptly priced. Collapse

My wife and I didn't stay at the hotel we just popped in for a bar meal so that's the basis of this review. The hotel ( what we saw of it ) was very clean and smart. The restaurant as expected was quiet for this time of year with just three groups including us eating. This is to be expected because the hotel is out of town and the time of the year. My wife Garlic bread to start which she found a bit bland and lacking in the garlic taste she likes i had the breaded mushrooms which were fine and very hot. For the main my wife had s chicken korma which was well presented but again lacked bit of spice, I know a korma is meant to be bland but I could see her point. I had chicken Kiev which was very good though, nice big piece of chicken which was well cooked with chips and aside salad as you would expect. There seemed to be just one waiter on duty but to be fair for the time of the year and the amount of people in the restaurant was about right. He was very chatty and was excellent at his job I wish more staff were like him. A very nice pleasant man. For all that, a J20 a pint of lager and a another beer was just over £40 which I think was fair. All in all an ok meal not outstanding but certainly eatable, but at this time of the year if you want a bit of atmosphere you need to go closer to town to eat. Collapse

Stayed at La Trelade in September 2016 for four nights. After arriving from Manchester midday, short taxi ride and arrived at hotel to warm welcome and room was ready. I had requested a room at the front of the hotel and was given Room 102- for sole occupancy for which I paid a little extra. Large king size bed, spacious bathroom- well worth it. Bed was very comfy and room cleaned every day Ate in the restaurant most nights- varied menu, table service expertly overseen by Carlos restaurant manager. Food was plentiful and beautifully cooked. Breakfast was also table service cooked breakfast or buffet if you wanted fruit, pastries , cereals etc This hotel is in a great position for access to St Peter Port- bus stop across the road. Each journey is only a £1 whether its one mile or ten. When ever I have visited the Island for longer periods I have invested in a bus pass for the week which was only £15 which can be obtained in Town from the Bus Terminus. Buses are regular during the holiday season and a great way to explore the Island A great hotel which I would highly recommend and to which I will return next year Collapse

Fourth time we've stayed here. Somehow its a comfortable, comforting place - just like Guernsey itself. Its also a bit ragged and untidy and a bit tired but I see as we left that Mike has got a planning application in (roofs and buildings) and I'm naively optimistic of an upgrade by the next time we visit next year. One big bonus is the new Turkish Chef (Mohammed). Fabulous food. We ate here almost every night of our nine nights even though we just booked bed and breakfast. Got our usual room and it was as comfrtable as ever. This time there was hot water every day !!!! I understand the spa manager has taken possession of the gym and indoor swimming pool and plans a massive clean-up (especially the roof) which it eeds. I hope he's not lying. We are sorry indeed about Mrs Mike but glad of the assistance of lovely Mark on reception and Mike's daughter Tracey. Head waiter Carlos is a real treasure - don't lose him or take him for granted. Please keep working at it. We already love the place and believe you have a real diamond in your hands if you keep polishing. Collapse
