My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and 4 days, from the 8th of November 2010. We were nothing but impressed at the high standards that this hotel set. Everything was really clean; the staff were really friendly, helpful and always went out of their way to provide a truly excellent customer experience. The room was more than sufficient for what we needed it for, the maid came in daily, made our beds and replaced the towels in the bathroom with fresh ones everyday. The shower was very powerful and didn't change temperature. To run a bath took seconds and the water was always plenty hot enough. Our only worry was the location of the hotel to Belfast city centre. The hotel has a lovely spa. The sauna, swimming pool, steam rooms, jacuzzi and gym facilities are to a very high standard. There is little reason to venture out of the hotel if you want a relaxing weekend away; however, it is a short taxi ride to the city centre which can work out quite expensive. Our taxis cost between £10 and £14 each way and this soon adds up. We went to the city at least every day, but are used to high travel costs with a single bus journey costing us around £5 each at home anyway. When asking the hotel staff about alternative travel methods, they set up a complimentary lift for us whenever and wherever we wanted to go, which certainly goes above and beyond everything I have ever experienced before. Even when setting up for a big conference, they still managed to spare us a member of staff which we are more than grateful for. The staff were very easy to talk to, giving advice and recommending places and things to see. We couldn't have asked for anything more from them. The managing director of the hotel was most friendly and refreshing. He made every possible effort to ensure that his guests had the best possible experience, even if it was just by saying good morning and asking them how there stay was. He was actually the person who set up the lifts for us and made sure that he had personal rapport with as many people as possible. After speaking to the staff, they had nothing but good things to say about him and all of them seemed grateful to be working for him. This reflected in their attitudes and provided a good atmosphere at all times. Collapse

Absolutely loved staying in this beautiful hotel. 12 of us stayed for a hen weekend and the hotel was amazing! We had a private area for eating and party games and music. The staff really went out of there way to make us feel welcome and look after us. The spa was just great most of us had either back massage or facial and everyone loved the treatments!! George at the bar was a laugh his accent was what we all wanted to hear haha! And the lady on reception we couldn't remember her name but left a bottle of wine for her looking after us. Over all great stay and I would recommend to anyone . Good sized rooms, fab food and bar and beautiful grounds. Collapse

I have attended La Mon on several occasions over the summer for a communion, Mother's Day weekend and 2 weddings. On every occasion mistakes have been made. With the communion we were not given the table size we booked meaning that guests had to squeeze round making do with the space we had, this seemed like one of those things and we carried on. On Mother's Day we had spa treatments, afternoon tea, an overnight stay and a carvery the next day. The service at the spa was appalling, I was emailed telling me that if I wanted to change a treatment I should give 24 hours notice. I rang every day for a week, my call was outsourced as there was no one available to take my call, where ever it was outsourced to could not answer any of my queries. I tried to speak to the hotel reception who told me the spa was entirely separate and nothing to do with them, I explained that as you allow them to carry your name it is in fact part of your responsibility to ensure the brands customers are treated properly, the receptionist did not seem to understand the link. I eventually sent an angry email to which I finally received a returned call, I was snapped at that I could have just told her on the day (despite her email telling me other wise) and that when the beauticians are busy it is not their fault that there is no one to answer the phone. Why is there no reception service? By the time the weekend came I was so frustrated with the service that I was not even looking forward to it. At both weddings mistakes were made with room bookings in terms of dates and prices. More than one party booked online only to be charged a different rate at the desk, one parties booking was put on the wrong weekend, and the hotel attempted to charge my sister increased rates for some rooms rather than discounted ones given that it was her wedding. All of these things can happen in the service industry and I understand that, if staff had been polite and apologised and the service had otherwise been good that would have been fine. This however was not the case, whilst actually staying attempts to order food or drinks at Charlie's Bistro were exhausting. The service in this bar was definitely the worst part of all, it was normal to be standing at the bar for 10-15 mins before anyone served you (there were maybe 2-3 customers waiting, they were not inundated), once ordered at cocktail took between 15-30 minutes to arrive. All of the above issues pale into insignificance when compared to the actual attitude of the staff at Charlie's. On more than one occasion a barmaid rolled her eyes at me when I approached the bar to order, tutting was commonplace, and despite how slow the service was no one apologised and the staff were rude to the point of hostile. At one stage a guest was asked 'what his problem was', his problem was poor service from appallingly mannered bar staff. This experience with the bar staff was at similar at both weddings this summer, I did not bother complaining as I did not see the point as there had been no improvement throughout the events I had attended, I decided to get on with enjoying the weekends, ignore the staffs lack of manners and make the best of it as I will not be returning anyway. The icing on the very poor cake was that I believe I left my earring in my room on departing, I called and asked reception to check on Sunday evening, they told me they would try to call me back within 30 mins. I realise it was my own fault if I did leave it behind and that it may not be there but no one has still called me back, I do not know why I would have expected that they would. I have never experienced such poor service. Collapse

Just home from La Mon where we had a lovely anniversary meal. This was where we had our wedding reception 30 years ago, which I mentioned to Sharon, a member of staff. Within minutes she came back to us with a glass of champagne for us both. As Christians, we don't drink alcohol and politely declined, but we appreciated her very thoughtful gesture. I had the lightly battered chicken goujons which were delicious followed by the chocolate brownie sundae. Highly recommended. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips too. We'll definitely go back again. Collapse

Had lunch last week. We waited soooo long for our order. When it finally arrived - so disappointed. The rice with the curry was so hard - unedible. Steak sandwich (£15.95) the piece of steak was so thin and covered in a mountain of fried onions - very overpriced. The people who got these 2 items were my guests and only complained when it was too late. We ordered coffee and desert which took forever to arrive.I had to send a coffee back as it was cold. I will not be returning to the La Mon again. I could have got a better lunch in a cafe for a third of the price. Highly overpriced. Collapse
