My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and 4 days, from the 8th of November 2010. We were nothing but impressed at the high standards that this hotel set. Everything was really clean; the staff were really friendly, helpful and always went out of their way to provide a truly excellent customer experience. The room was more than sufficient for what we needed it for, the maid came in daily, made our beds and replaced the towels in the bathroom with fresh ones everyday. The shower was very powerful and didn't change temperature. To run a bath took seconds and the water was always plenty hot enough. Our only worry was the location of the hotel to Belfast city centre. The hotel has a lovely spa. The sauna, swimming pool, steam rooms, jacuzzi and gym facilities are to a very high standard. There is little reason to venture out of the hotel if you want a relaxing weekend away; however, it is a short taxi ride to the city centre which can work out quite expensive. Our taxis cost between £10 and £14 each way and this soon adds up. We went to the city at least every day, but are used to high travel costs with a single bus journey costing us around £5 each at home anyway. When asking the hotel staff about alternative travel methods, they set up a complimentary lift for us whenever and wherever we wanted to go, which certainly goes above and beyond everything I have ever experienced before. Even when setting up for a big conference, they still managed to spare us a member of staff which we are more than grateful for. The staff were very easy to talk to, giving advice and recommending places and things to see. We couldn't have asked for anything more from them. The managing director of the hotel was most friendly and refreshing. He made every possible effort to ensure that his guests had the best possible experience, even if it was just by saying good morning and asking them how there stay was. He was actually the person who set up the lifts for us and made sure that he had personal rapport with as many people as possible. After speaking to the staff, they had nothing but good things to say about him and all of them seemed grateful to be working for him. This reflected in their attitudes and provided a good atmosphere at all times. Collapse

I arrived with friends for an overnight stay. When we arrived at the hotel my initial thoughts were that it was well kept and the staff on reception were very pleasant. On arrival to our room I was a little disappointed. It was fairly dated and immediately I noticed that the base of the beds were frayed at the corners. The bed sheets were torn in places too. In the middle of the countryside I looked out of the window expecting to see beautiful fields but attached is what I was looking at. Anyway, we were there to relax so I sought to make the most of it. Dinner was fantastic in the mill restaurant. And we went to the grill afterwards for dessert just to see what it was like. It was just ok...not much atmosphere but fine. After dinner I went to the leisure suite and found it to be very dated and in need of some work. The pool was cold and a section of it which appeared to have jets wasn't working. The Jacuzzi was great and very warm which made getting back into pool feel even colder! The sauna is very small and there was no water to throw on the coals but a gentleman beside me nipped out and soaked his hat to wring out over them. It was pleasant enough. On returning to the room to wind down before bed it became apparent that the walls are paper thin. The noise was actually unreal and was coming from above and below and next door. Even with headphones in and listening to music I could hear the noise from outside the room. As I didn't want to make a fuss and was only staying for one night I didn't say anything....anyway I am not exactly sure what could have been done to silence the people in the room next to us from using the loo which was surprisingly audible! On checkout we mentioned to the girls on reception as they asked how out stay was. One girl asked if we had alerted the night porter implying that this was somehow my fault. I explained I didn't want to make a fuss but also wondered how they were going to sort the issue of hearing the person next door going for a wee. Anyway I explained that I wouldn't be in a rush to go back. The staff asked half heartedly if we would like to speak to the duty manager or have them contact us. We replied the latter though having read other reviews it seems that is u likely to happen! We had checked in to the spa which was perfectly fine...nothing exceptional but grand. The staff in the spa were friendly and accommodating. While I feel a rating if 2 is a little in the low side a 3 would be too positive. Unless a lot of work is done to the place I won't be returning. I would recommend a meal in the mill restaurant but I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel. Collapse

I stayed in the La Mon, for business, two months ago. While this is a lovely hotel with many things going for it (lack of mobile signal and functioning Wifi apart) I did not have a good experience with the food. I complained on the night and informed reception of my complaint the next morning- and that I would follow up in writing. On my return, I received an email asking for my feedback. I sent details of all the issues I had encountered... and have not had a single response. I replied again two weeks later and still nothing, not even an acknowledgement. So by all means visit the La Mon - but if something goes wrong, they could not care less. They pretend to want your feedback but they don't. The worst customer service I've ever come across! Collapse
