The La Griffe Hotel is a boutique hotel in an excellent location. The staff were lovely & friendly throughout and made us very welcome. Our room was upgraded on arrival and it was very spacious and comfortable. The meals were excellent and the rooftop restaurant was a delight. Most of the sights were within walking distance which was an absolute bonus. We took the Metro to the Vatican and it was easy to use and affordable. We booked our excursions prior to departure & that proved to be advantageous as the queues at the Vatican Museums and the Coliseum were extremely long, and by pre-booking we jumped the queues. The half day trip to the Vatican Museums & the Roman Forum was absolutely amazing and our guide was very knowledgeable. Likewise with the Coliseum trip. The National Monument is an incredible sight - we could see it from the hotel rooftop and explored it ourselves. Don't miss the elevator which takes you up to the very top in close contact with the chariots! We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend, needless to say it was not long enough and we will definitely be returning. Collapse

I'm so disappointed with my stay in this hotel. First, they gave me a room 221 which was total mess, no hairdryer, the water was leaking in the bedroom. The same day I requested to change the room, it was managed only at the end of the day, we were offered room 515-no big difference. The water is still leaking. Its sixth day of my stay and the hotel has no understanding of cleaning. Everything is dirty. They just make up the bed. The keep forgetting to refill shampoo/conditioner, etc and once in a while change towels. The floor is so dirty-its disgusting. The toilet sit is all stained. The walls are covered with leakages of water. Shower is tiny-am size 2 and hardly moving inside. Hotel staff have problems- they are NOT HELPFUL at all. The receptionist Daniel will say that things will improve, you come back to the hotel and nothing is changed. They just don't do anything. I asked for refill of toiletries 4 times today. They just don't care..The breakfast is ok. This is worst hotel I've ever stayed. It is funny that hotel is ranked with 5 stars. My advice is not to stay here- the hotel will ruin your experience of this wonderful city of Rome. Collapse

Not a 5 star property. Front desk staff not very helpful--actually staff generally. When we got to room it was clear that bathroom was not cleaned from prior guest because of empty tubes of product left in room The shower was tiny I could hardly move around and I am a size 4. The floor looked like linoleum--or something of that sort. The beds were sub par. I stayed in three other cities and this hotel was by far the worst. On the plus side the bath products were lovely and the rooftop was fantastic. Collapse
Don't stay here, even if they pay you.

Unfortunately, our stay at the La Griffe in Rome, was an unmitigated disaster. We chose to save money on our hotel choice in Rome, compared to the hotels we chose in Venice and Florence. We opted to use the savings on more comfortable seats on our flights. Our travel agent assured us the La Griffe was still supposed to be a 5 star hotel. This hotel is no 5 star property. I have stayed at Comfort Inns, that had a better overall level of service . Front desk was mostly disinterested, never greeting us, but rather waiting for us to approach. The housekeeping was a disaster each day. Beginning with no hand towels or wash cloths replaced the first day, no new towels at all the second day. To put the cherry on top, no housekeeping at all the third day. If it weren't for a wonderful doorman, who directed us to a great restaurant on our final night and was friendly each time we saw him, the staff was perfunctory at best to useless at worst. To make matters worse, I emailed the general manager early in our stay, and have yet to have a response. My wife complained at the front desk and each time we were assured the issue would be corrected, it never was. The breakfast was also very poor. I think the scrambled eggs were powdered. On checking out I expressed my displeasure, and they at least removed our bar tab from the bill. She did also ask for my email so that management could contact me for a follow up. As of yet I have not been contacted. I wish I had read the reviews on Trip Advisor before we booked as our experience seems commonplace. Collapse

I've given a lot of thought into this review as the hotel has some positives, but is also marred by lots of negatives. We booked a superior room and we're shown to a v small, dingey room (number 406) with no natural light as the window looked out onto an internal fire escape. However the room was well lit and I liked the quirky decor. The bathroom was very small too and the hot water in the shower was inconsistent so went from boiling to freezing several times during a shower. The towels were a good size. The bed was hard as rock. The hotel corridors were decorated with dark grey walls and dark grey floor, which didn't help the feeling of oppression. However, the rooftop breakfast room on the 9th floor was very bright and lovely. This room doubled up as a bar at night. We enjoyed our breakfasts up there - the selection was as you would expect with a limited cooked choice, fruit, pastries, bread, cereals, cold meats and cheeses. The staff in the restaurant were lovely. The reception area was again small and dark but the decoration was a mix of contemporary and retro with lots of references to film stars of a bygone age and lamberttas - I liked the feel of it to be honest and Joseph the porter was friendly and knowledgeable and a real character. I popped down to the 'fitness centre' in the basement and was v disappointed. This hotel is not a spa hotel by any means - just a few apparatus chucked in a spare room in the basement. Apparently there is a hot tub somewhere - didn't find it. I did enjoy this hotel but only because if it's location - not because of the accommodation! It's close to the Termini train station, 15 mins walk from 'The Wedding Cake' and 25 from the Colesseum. The Vatican is 40-45 mins walk away. The Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps are close too. If you are using it as a base only then it's perfect - but expensive as a 5 star not to feel comfortable in your room. When we checked out, transpires we had been put in a classic so we had been downgraded! What made me cross then was despite proving that I'd booked a superior, the hotel didn't take responsibility and sent me back to Ebookers with a shrug and a bit of a don't care attitude (Ebookers were great by the way - and refunded me within 48 hours!) This hotel doesn't feel in any way like a 5 star and if you want to pay 5 star prices then there has to be better hotels in the location. Collapse
