The La Griffe Hotel is a boutique hotel in an excellent location. The staff were lovely & friendly throughout and made us very welcome. Our room was upgraded on arrival and it was very spacious and comfortable. The meals were excellent and the rooftop restaurant was a delight. Most of the sights were within walking distance which was an absolute bonus. We took the Metro to the Vatican and it was easy to use and affordable. We booked our excursions prior to departure & that proved to be advantageous as the queues at the Vatican Museums and the Coliseum were extremely long, and by pre-booking we jumped the queues. The half day trip to the Vatican Museums & the Roman Forum was absolutely amazing and our guide was very knowledgeable. Likewise with the Coliseum trip. The National Monument is an incredible sight - we could see it from the hotel rooftop and explored it ourselves. Don't miss the elevator which takes you up to the very top in close contact with the chariots! We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend, needless to say it was not long enough and we will definitely be returning. Collapse

Not too far to get a solid 5 review

We stayed at this hotel as our last destination of a family vacation. I have to admit that the two story suite with the private elevator between the two floors was quite a touch. The room was very nice on both floors but the bathrooms were a bit date. The rooftop terrace with the bar and restaurant were very nice and the slightly more expensive prices were well justified by the view and ambiance. The one issue that we had was the temperature control in the shower. It was impossible to keep a constant temperature and the swing was way too much from freezing to burning. Besides that the location was great, not too noisy and close to everything. All the staff were very helpful and we would stay at this property again. Collapse

Let me start by saying we just had the worst experience of customer service so this was such a pleasant change. Why we booked this hotel though there were mixed reviews? We were travelling with grandma and kids. Grandma got a bathroom with a walk in shower, kids had a roof top bar where they could drink and party till 2am without leaving the building. Check in Staff were great, restaurant recommendations were spot on and when we arrived for all our reservations our table had a sign on it VIP. Joseph at the front door, he is the reason people write nice things about this Hotel. He cannot do enough to help you this man needs a raise. Breakfast on the days we stayed was perfect. lovely views. The bar scene at night is similar to that at the W group. Happy beautiful people. People have commented on the price of drinks but the bars on the street are only maybe 2 Euros cheaper with no view and no atmosphere? Yes if you are on the 8th floor you can hear the music till 2am but we were at the bar and so it didnt matter to us. Bedroom 808 i think is the one with the tine shower, but it is a walk in ad thats what we needed. Bedroom 805 is the one with the hot and cold water issue, we complained they went maintenance over but at the end of the day the Staff only work there the Hotel Owners need to fix this issue. But the room and bathroom were so beautiful. Rooms are not clean there is dust everywhere, housekeeping is lacking and they missed giving us complementary water on second night and refilling the tea supply but the front desk fixed that. PLEASE can someone fix the AC situation? After a long conversation with the idiot who is at the front desk and rude and obnoxious for the night shift but then no one else would want that job) it works if you set is between 17 AND 22, no idea why but if you set it a 5 it doesnt cool the room down. Now don't get me wrong your room will not be cold but it is still better. All that said for the price, location, Jospeh and roof top bar we would stay there again. But it is not a 5 star Hotel. I am in the travel industry, so I am quite critical when it comes to hotels. I believe the hotel is good value for money compared to other hotels in the same price category. In my opinion, I don't believe it is a 5-star hotel, definitely 4-star. Location is good and door staff are excellent - particular praise goes to Joseph who was so lovely and recommended an excellent restaurant to us one evening and despite it being very busy and fully booked, he managed to get a reservation for us. The public areas in the hotel are wonderful - the roof terrace is stunning, the breakfast was also very good and nice to be able to sit outside for breakfast. The rooms unfortunately let the hotel down. the corridors are very dark, and our room smelt 'musty/damp'. There was a hole in my duvet cover and the bed wasn't very comfortable. Bathroom also smelt damp and was very small. The shower desperately needed descaling and didn't work very well at all. If the rooms were updated, this would bring the hotel back up to where it should be and I believe it would start receiving better reviews. I cannot fault the hotel staff and public areas, and when the rooms have been refurbished, I will look forward to returning! Collapse
Time for Accor to dump this property

Having read the mixed reviews I decided to book this Hotel over the Sofitel because of its location. I believe that the majority of the issues sit squarely in the lap of the GM and the bad attitude reflects all the way through the staff - Except for one outstanding exception and the is Joseph K, the doorman. After my stay I received an email asking me to fill out a survey on my stay and it said it was sent from the General Manager - Mr Claude Costella. So I filled out the survey hoping some of my feedback would be helpful as previous surveys from other Accor properties have always been responded to even when they are 95% positive. Well a week later I still haven't had a response which I believe reflects the lack of care they have towards their guests hence all the bad reviews they are getting. My stay started off with no recognition of being an Accor Platinum member. No welcome pack, no drink voucher, no mention of a room upgrade. I did arrive fairly late (10pm) after 24hours of flying and just wanted to get into bed. Now this sort of thing is standard in all of the Accor Hotels I stay at around the world so I'm not being precious. I'm just pointing out that they aren't keeping up the standard of service other Accor Hotels provide. Even the 4 star Mercure and Novotel properties always have a note and a little gift in the room when I arrive. The next morning I woke up early at 5am and went down stairs to ask where I could get a decent coffee. The guy on the desk who was obviously night staff just looked at me like I was an idiot when I asked and then stared fiddling with something in the drawer hoping I would go away. The junior suite I had was two levels and just badly designed. There was a mirrored door on the first level that I think was a joining door to the next room. It wasnt sound proof so when a noisey family arrived one night I heard everything that was going on. The bed is not a Sofitel bed and it is 2 single mattresses. Bathroom is average and the shower over a tub is really tricky to get in and out of with out falling on the toilet. I wanted to arrange a late checkout for the day I was leaving. It wasnt offered at check in (no surprises there) but I knew when I called up eaxactly how the conversation was going to go. So I called reception and said I would like to know what the latest check out time would be. The automatic response I got was "check out is at 11am". They didnt bother to look at my profile or identify me in any way. Just gave me a "no". I suggested they have a look at the system to check my profile before answering me again. He just said I will look and get back to you. I'm still waiting for him to get back to me. The morning I was leaving I went down to reception to ask again and at least this time the front desk person looked at my profile, saw I was Platinum and then organised a 2pm check out. I still got a call at 11.20am asking if I needed help getting out of the room. I'm trying not to come accross as whinging but I travel alot, I stay in Accor properties all the time because I need these types of features and services when I'm travelling to make my life a little easier and when a Hotel has Zero customer service then its really and don't deliver on the service you expect then its very disappointing. The Positives Very good location. Most of the historic land marks are very easy to walk to. Joseph K the doorman is a star. They don't deserve him. He should be working at a Hotel that meets the same high standard of service that this man delivers. Would I stay here again? Probably not Collapse

Stayed here in December 16 and forgot to review. Very good hotel with very helpful and friendly staff with good tips for local restaurants etc. We got a complimentary bottle of Prosecco in our room which was a nice touch on arrival. Rooms at the front of the hotel get some road noise but it's acceptable. If your a light sleeper you should ask for a quieter room though. Didn't try the restaurant in the hotel. Certainly recommend this hotel. Collapse
