The La Griffe Hotel is a boutique hotel in an excellent location. The staff were lovely & friendly throughout and made us very welcome. Our room was upgraded on arrival and it was very spacious and comfortable. The meals were excellent and the rooftop restaurant was a delight. Most of the sights were within walking distance which was an absolute bonus. We took the Metro to the Vatican and it was easy to use and affordable. We booked our excursions prior to departure & that proved to be advantageous as the queues at the Vatican Museums and the Coliseum were extremely long, and by pre-booking we jumped the queues. The half day trip to the Vatican Museums & the Roman Forum was absolutely amazing and our guide was very knowledgeable. Likewise with the Coliseum trip. The National Monument is an incredible sight - we could see it from the hotel rooftop and explored it ourselves. Don't miss the elevator which takes you up to the very top in close contact with the chariots! We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend, needless to say it was not long enough and we will definitely be returning. Collapse

Not up to MGallery standard - quite disappointing

Like many people here, I am a big fan of MGallery hotels and Accor group in general. When you stay at MGallery hotels, you sort of get used to a certain level of service and quality. I'm sad to say that La Griffe underperforms on both quality and level of service. I'll start with the good: the location is spectacular - you're close to many sites, and the hotel is easy to reach from the airport. The bellboys were lovely, always keen to help and advise a good spot to visit. Now, for the not so great things: THE ROOMS! I get that Rome's city centre is cramped, hence hotel rooms tend to be small, but this is no excuse for not keeping up the room in a decent state. Our room 219 had a very tough mattress, pillows that gave both of us neck pain and a leaking sink. Come on, MGallery, really? Btw. this was a standard room, upon arrival we were offered a superior room, but guess what, the windows in that room were facing an inside stairwell, hence no natural light, and quite a torture for people with claustrophobia. So we thanked the staff for the possible upgrade, but decided to resort to a standard room with a proper window. The price-quality ration at this hotel is non-existent, and I would not recommend this hotel. Collapse

For a one-off on small budget, maybe. But after doing so many hotels, especially those in the Accor Brand and especially Sofitel, I can say that this hotel really does not meet standards at all! The rooms are noisy, shower is old-fashion and with irregular temperature, space arrangement is not ideal, breakfast is so incomplete and not varied... really would have at least expected a nice breakfast. The bar (breakfast area) is actually quite nice in the evening, but if you sit there, be prepared for someone showing up and telling you that IF you're not having another drink , THEN the table is reserved for somebody else... ??? Go figure. Really not up to standards. Collapse

It is a shame that I can only give this hotel 3 starts. The staff was extremely friendly, hospitable and helpful. From my arrival the bell staff immediately helped with my bags, the front desk greeted me and checked me quickly and made me feel welcomed. When I couldn't find my tv remote - the housekeeping staff came to the rescue and she didn't speak English! Kudos to the breakfast staff - everyone was friendly, smiling, and super efficient. Meanwhile the breakfast selection was good and comparable to other MGallery. Great 5 star staff!! Unfortunately, the building and fixtures has seen better days. Noise/sound from adjacent rooms and hallways carries straight through the walls. You can hear other people's TV's as I walk in the hallway, and while in your room - hear people walking in the hallway, as well as what your neighbors are doing. My phone could call the front desk but not other rooms and vice versa. The bathroom shower heads sprayed water in all directions and the temperature fluctuated dangerously. And it felt like almost every piece of furniture was in some way scuffed and or damaged. Important to note that they have several interior rooms with no natural light. Those rooms look into the internal fire stairwell. I spent one night in an inside room before changing to an outside room. I felt like there was no ventilation in that room. It was also hot and despite having the hotel adjust the temperature, I felt I was suffocating in the middle of the night and had to fan the room with the door to get some air. Collapse
