The La Griffe Hotel is a boutique hotel in an excellent location. The staff were lovely & friendly throughout and made us very welcome. Our room was upgraded on arrival and it was very spacious and comfortable. The meals were excellent and the rooftop restaurant was a delight. Most of the sights were within walking distance which was an absolute bonus. We took the Metro to the Vatican and it was easy to use and affordable. We booked our excursions prior to departure & that proved to be advantageous as the queues at the Vatican Museums and the Coliseum were extremely long, and by pre-booking we jumped the queues. The half day trip to the Vatican Museums & the Roman Forum was absolutely amazing and our guide was very knowledgeable. Likewise with the Coliseum trip. The National Monument is an incredible sight - we could see it from the hotel rooftop and explored it ourselves. Don't miss the elevator which takes you up to the very top in close contact with the chariots! We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend, needless to say it was not long enough and we will definitely be returning. Collapse

Bad: Mattress needed replacing (dipped in the middle) Shower and bathroom really small and broken - rather than a 'shower' it was more like a tap above your head. Whole bathroom needs updating. Noisy: No carpets and thin door, so you can hear everyone in the corridors. Because this is a 'five star' hotel, city tax is high at €7 per person per night. Good: Location in Rome. Staff. Collapse
Travelers beware: major service flaws including giving key to our room to a stranger (another guest)

Travelers beware. This is most definitely not a 5 star and not a typical Sofitel experience. We prepaid for a deluxe room for 3 nights. When we arrived, we were given a standard room (dark and small). We pointed out that it was not the room we had paid for. After many minutes of discussion at the front desk and with management and after a call to the travel agent who had handled the booking, reception apologized and showed us to a deluxe room. It was clean and quiet but with only a bathtub with spray attachment for shower. A real shower was impossible: a disappointment. Maid service was disappointing and non existent one day. The maid came at the end of the day the second day but failed to replenish coffee bar, toiletries, or clean room beyond the bathroom. We had to call for these toiletries. On the third day, no one came to clean the room at all. We had to call in the late afternoon and after several calls, had the clean towels and toiletries so that we could bath. During our second afternoon, luckily while we were sitting in the room, a stranger opened our door and tried to enter with a suitcase. After seeing us, he apologized and left. We called the front desk to discover that they had given a guest who had just checked in a key to our room. The manager came and apologized, offering us a discount at the restaurant. Nevertheless, giving another guest a key to our room is a major security issue and reflects the lack of attention to detail and careful service that seems to be a issue with some of the staff at this hotel. There were some positives. The restaurant staff was excellent and the view for the restaurant, particularly at night with the Vatican aglow was very nice. The hotel provided a box breakfast for our early morning day. Also, the breakfast was good and service excellent in the restaurant. The managerial staff was apologetic for the problems and tried to assuage our concerns after someone entered our room. Some of the reception staff were very helpful and pleasant. Plus, the hotel location was very good. Nevertheless, there are many hotels in this area so many alternatives to this hotel. Collapse

If you're looking to stay in a 5 star hotel, this probably isn't where you should book. The service was 5 star, but everything else was not. The rooms are clean but for some reason the bathroom faucet seemed dirty/old. The beds weren't 5 star quality either. There is a bar/lounge and restaurant on the top floor of the restaurant and you can hear the loud music all night. Location is great. I mean, this place is good, but 4 star at best; for the price, definitely take your money elsewhere. Probably wouldn't stay again. Collapse

The only 2 points to rave is the location and the rooftop bar! The rooftop was awesome, smiley service staff, nice view, good music. Location: walkable distance to places of interest. Really not worth the 5 stars. The bed to my horror is harder than anyone can imagine. Although the hotel staff were really good, nothing to doubt about the customer service. The rooms are not sound proof. I could hear clearly whoever is at the corridor. I didnt have a good rest in this hotel. Collapse

This hotel is nicely located. It's 15 mins walk to the Colisseum and the Trevi Fountain and 5 mins walk to the Terminal. The place is clean but a bit pricey for the size. The brunch is very good and have lots of food.
