I have stayed here before, and the hotel has several things going for it: mainly location and price. My advance purchase price was once again excellent. The location of the hotel also suited us very well, as we had to catch trains quite a bit, and being just across from the Hauptbahnhof made things so much simpler. For the price, the breakfast is fine, and the hotel is also clean enough. My main frustration with the hotel this time was trying to get in touch to ask for a specific room-type. I prefer not sleep in rooms where the windows face into a light shaft. The booking site didn't allow me to make a room request, and so I tried to email directly. However, if there was an email address hidden on the hotel website, I couldn't find it. So I tried to ring twice - once from Australia before we left, and once from the UK shortly before we arrived. I seemed to get stuck on the line to the overall hotel chain management, and they were extraordinarily rude, and distressingly so. Of course, once I got to the hotel, there was no record of any request from me, and no room at the front of the hotel with a window that faced outside available. Added to that was the fact that the room we were given was dreadfully hot, even though the heating was off. I just don't get it; it was January - how did that happen? We opened the window onto the light-well, just to get a bit of fresh air into the room. There were also a few other minor issues with the room. Fortunately, and to their credit, we were moved for the next two nights into a room with a view of the Bahnhof. This felt much better. The rooms are not flash; they are OK for the price. Despite the efforts of the staff to improve our experience by changing our rooms, it wasn't enough to make me want to come back here. Collapse
Good value, great location.

We booked through Thomas Cook and for the price this hotel is good. Our room was big and comfortable and warm, without being as stifling as some places we had encountered on our German adventure. The bathroom was enormous and kitsch - the tiles were very dated but fun. The bath was deep, and a relief after the small shower cubicles we had squeezed into elsewhere. Plenty of hot water. Breakfast was fine, enough choice and turn over, no idea about a previous reviewers comment about eggs "from a carton" - I didn't expect the hen to be sitting on the table waiting for me? Sadly we only got to sample it on one of our two days, thanks to the deplorable TAP airlines amending our 12.45 return flight to 06.00... Luckily the position of the hotel meant a three minute walk from the door to the platform where the train whisked us off to the flughafen. As well as the convenience for the station, it's easy to walk to the main shopping area (through the station), and down to the centre. We walked all the way to Miniatur Wonderland, and caught a bus back that dropped us right outside the hotel. Plenty of good local restaurants, we tried two and enjoyed both. Safe was free (€15 deposit), staff were friendly and helpful - their English was perfect too, the single lift can take a while during busy periods. I thoroughly recommend this hotel for a break in Hamburg. Collapse

This hotel is literally across Kirchenallee from the main train station south. The hop on hop off buses meet here as well as the city buses. The U2 and U4 entrance is on this side of the street, Breakfast was pretty good, The usual with scrambled and hard cooked eggs, cereal, good rolls etc. Hotel staff were friendly--some better than others. Sometimes language is the problem. This hotel is an older hotel and at least the room we were in, needed some updating. That being said we didn't spend much time in our small room. We were not on the Main Street so it was pretty quiet, The room appeared to be clean. The bathroom emitted a strange odor, which I think had to do with with the broken bidet in our bath. The only real problem we had was when the heat was off, the room was still really warm. We needed to open the window to regulate the heat. We got this hotel on a super deal through Expedia, so really can't complain. Collapse

Stayed here with my husband last December on a short break to visit the Christmas markets. On arrival by train from the airport, the hotel is situated directly across from the central train station and is within 10 walk from the Rathaus and the main shopping areas. There is u-bahn access within 2 mins if travelling further around the city. We had a triple room which was a good size with a large bathroom. The room decor was dated but was very clean. Breakfast buffet was adequate, all the usual hot and cold fare. My only complaints were that at peak times the buffet area became very congested which made it difficult to get to the food and the tables are very close together, which makes it hard to get around with your tray. The staff in the hotel were friendly. I was concerned that because the hotel is beside the train station that the area would be a bit doggy but it was fine. The immediate street has a nice selection for restaurant which are very popular with the theatre going crowds. The streets behind the hotel are a bit seedy. This hotel was ideal for our needs and was value for money. Would stay here again on a short break. Collapse
