Stayed for two days midwek deal, included dinner first night. Very comfortable, standard room, lovely view of Croagh Patrick and Westport from our window. Dinner good in restaurant, not exceptional and would have been expesive if it wasn't included in the deal. House Sauvignon Blanc and Cote du Rhône very acceptable and good value. Ate in Brehon Bar on the second night, good value main courses. Gentleman at reception the first night could have been more welcoming, but staff generally very pleasant, particularly in the bar. 15-20 minute walk to town centre, uphill on the way back, so you might want a taxi! Nice pool and spa. Collapse
Good but could be even better!

Just back from 2 night stay in Knockranny. Very friendly welcome from a senior gentleman who brought in our bags. Public areas look like they could do with a touch up with doors etc needing painting. Room was a deluxe with partial sea view. Spotlessly clean, simply furnished with good size clean bathroom and robes provided. Sheets were really crisp and white. Not luxurious but nothing wrong either. I think I expected an older hotel bit it is only 20 years old. Nice fire in lobby and the Brehon bar which has lovely views over Clew Bay. Unfortunately only 2 chairs close to the fire in lobby and about 4 in around fire in the bar. Tried the drawing room but no fire lighting there so room was too cold to sit and read the newspapers, a pity as the room looked nice. Dinner in la Fougere, a lovely dining room, was excellent with very efficient staff. Bar man was very nice and friendly. We had early dinner in bar on second evening with a bottle of wine (included in package-nice touch). The main courses (burger and thai chicken curry) were very disappointing, dry and far from the standard of la Fougere. Dessert was nice. Breakfast was good, particularily the buffet and smoked salmon. Coffee was very good. The staff members overall were nice and efficient if sometimes seeming a bit rushed. Some of the reception staff spoke quite loudly so while sitting in lobby you can hear other clients requests and bills being repeated back to them! Spa area nice and clean, did not have any treatments. Overall a great value package but more nice, warm seating areas needed, a touch of paint in corridors and a little more warmth from some of the reception/breakfast staff would give this hotel a boost. The highlight of our visit was meeting the receptionist, Aoife. She could not have been more genuinely welcoming, friendly and very helpful with local sights information etc. Time was when practically all hotels had a 2PM check in time. The Knockranny has a 4 PM check in time. So much for platitudes about customer care etc etc. This is self care only. We were given an upgraded bedroom with excellent views. It was large and comfortable. The bathroom was also very good. A small downside was that we could not get our premier radio station, RTE radio 1 on either the radio or the TV. Even a porter who came to help could not do so. Another downside was the miserable hotel reading lights. We had been very well briefed beforehand on the great food that we should expect. Dinner in the La Fougere restaurant was good but not great. My wife’s vegetarian meal was very good but my chicken looked and tasted very average. Nothing wrong with it but just OK. Service was very good. Surprisingly the La Fougere restaurant had only a set dinner menu and no Al La Carte, thus the following night, as we only wanted a one course dinner, we dined in the Brehon Bar. This was a straightforward satisfactory bar meal, apart from the salad which was lifeless 1970ish style with no dressing. The La Rougere and the Brehon are side by side and one would expect that the food comes out of the same kitchen, however, the Brehon appears to be regarded as the poor relative. Breakfast was satisfactory but certainly no better than numerous other Irish hotels. In La Fougere, dinner and breakfast, try and get a seat by the window from which the view is excellent. Wifi in the bedroom was good but surprisingly not good in the Drawing Room in the Lobby. The package we were on was great value. We visit Westport about once a year but won’t be rushing back to the Knockranny. On previous visits we have stayed in another 4* hotel closer to the town centre which we preferred. Knockranny is over one mile from the town centre but a safe walk with sidewalks all the way. Collapse

Have stayed in this hotel a few times and happy to come back. - The only issue I have .. and I have encountered this a couple of times ... We stayed in one of the large rooms ( grand deluxe I think ) which are a long way from reception. Great size rooms in fairness - My issues were are No Wifi signal - it came on occasionally but could not use it even to look up something - Also bedside light is really bad and hotel really needs to put some decent light here so one can read - I can't believe given the really excellent rooms and bathroom that this has not been addressed - I am not looking to moan and will be back to stay with the hotel again . Love the view of the town and Croagh Patrick mountain and the beautiful Clew Bay when the weather permits. The rooms are very comfortable and cleaned to a high standard. The staff are all wonderful and all requests are welcomed and taken on board promptly. Am looking forward to our next visit to eat in the amazing dining room.
