I stayed at this hotel recently for work. To be brutally honest, it was a last resort as I'd stayed here previously when it was called another name, and vowed that I would not return. Well how things have changed. I got a great room that was recently renovated. New carpets, furniture, etc. It even had a nespresso machine (and lots of capsules!!), new TV.... I even liked the detail on the room information leaflets, etc, and the restaurant menu. Everything aligned perfectly. It's the small things. To be fair, I'm not expecting that all rooms have been rennovated yet, or if that's even the plan, but the Haddington is certainly on the way up. I was so impressed, and can't believe that I was saying at more expensive and less comfortable 4* places nearby. The Haddington is sure to up their star ratings. I checked in late, and was met by a very friendly receptionist, so she deserves a mention too. The only thing that I'd change was the fact that my room was called a "crash pad". Sounds suspect. Credit to all! Collapse

Stayed here recently to attend a family function. Our room was very comfortable and bathroom very clean with good shower. Nespresso machine in bedroom was a nice touch. Only downside was that we missed out on the sea views which guests in front rooms enjoyed! Breakfast good but would prefer if tea/coffee and toast were served to the table...having to help oneself meant that breakfast was lukewarm by the time we got back to the table. View from dining area is great. The hotel is a work in progress...has lots of character and all staff we met were very pleasant and helpful. Look forward to a return visit when works completed Collapse

Arrival..... We both arrived off the Aircoach (recommended) from Dublin airport after flying in from Glasgow that morning.... on Friday afternoon around 15;00....checked in (luke warm welcome)....No view at all....room & bathroom both medium sized and clearly tired quite old hat and bathroom tiles cracked etc...no Wow! factor here. Went for walk along front...its a fabulous town & situation. Beach...sea...harbour...Wow! factor here. Looks like a nice garden area for the summer out front....the Terrace at the front door looks very shabby indeed and needs a lick and some new furniture...Smokers deserve to be catered for too! On return for pre dinner shower.....no hot water....... I informed reception who advised the hotel is undergoing renovation and the boiler had problems. the plumber had been recalled....so cold wash in the sink before dressing for dinner for us both....brrrh To dinner!.... We had booked a window seat in the Oliveto restaurant....this whole experience was nothing short of outstanding! Probably the best Italian style meal we have ever had anywhere including Italy itself....the share platter with lovely light crispy bread is fantastic and VERY generous....the slow roasted beef cheek with risotto was a Master class....the prawn Linguini a delight..ThanQ Chef!....really nice wine selection.....staff in Bar & restaurant were lovely...smiley....fun.... amazing (Tall chap Brill!!) with the view to die for....what more could we ask for?....The pub restaurant mixing together really works and the Friday evening buzz was a joy to be part of. We will certainly be back....need to book well in advance I gather. Breakfast day 1.... Next morning still no hot water at all....! After a very average breakfast (Little choice on the fruit & juice options)....Limited hot food selection from the Bain Marie's ....look warm at best.......tea/coffee hiatus due to there being only one very slow machine....not easy to navigate at all......queues formed which exacerbated the already luke warm breakfast situation.....now stone cold! Again informed the management of the room hot (cold) water situation at 9:30 and after some discussion they advise we pack our things and they would move us to a new upgraded room when we went out. Returned at 15:40 to be told the new room was not made up!....after some further discussion it transpired the room was actually ready on 4th floor. The new room & bathroom was very small although it did have a sort of a side on view to the front........certainly not an upgrade in our opinion...again clearly tired quite old hat and bathroom tiles cracked etc...no Wow factor here! .......certainly not an upgrade in our opinion.... Breakfast!....day 2 pretty much a repeat of day1! Checking out!... On checking out I was informed there would be no charge for our accommodation at all and we would only be billed for our food & beverages......considering we had no asked for any discount this was a very generous and well appreciated gesture. Well done The Haddington for that tilt to customer service. ThanQ! Conclusion.... A very mixed bag as you can see....mitigating circumstance with the renovations on going.....we had some very great highs...and a few lows......we so wanted our special weekend to be near perfect and with the great weather and Olivetos it wasn't far off.....so when the refurbishment completes we will try again....need to book same table by the window in wonderful Oliveto.....in advance!! Ciao' Steve Collapse

This hotel is in the middle of being renovated. We were here for a wedding which was catered for very well. The room we had was fine. It was clean and the coffee machine and other facilities in the room were all of a good quality. The room was tired and the view we had was of, what looked like, the smoking area for the staff. However, as we were not intending to spend a lot of time in the room, this was of little importance to us. The beds were comfy and as I mentioned, the room was clean so we were happy. The lifts are slow though so don't try and do anything in a hurry! Breakfast was very good with a lot of choice and everything seemed to be fresh. The view from the restaurant is superb, over the bay to Howth. As I mentioned, we were here for a wedding, the service was held outside in the gardens overlooking the bay, and we were very lucky with the weather, it was akin to being in Italy or similar. The service was great, the staff were always smiling and ready to help. The food was outstanding. I think once the rooms have all be updated this hotel has the potential to be fantastic, however I hope that they won't elevate the prices too much as a reflection. Collapse
