I was looking for a clean, comfortable place to stay in San Francisco that didn't have a fortune of fees. San Francisco is tough to find a great price. Priceline.com will let you bid to a great price for the room rate, but you can easily end up with fees 1.5 times your room rate per day. Beware!!! I found a deal at the King George that included valet parking. Pretty good rate overall and I knew the total. I spoke with the GM and she was honest. It was refreshing not to be oversold and under delivered to. The place is not a 4 star place. It is old and a little odd, but the room was very clean. The bed was super comfortable and the staff was great. One thing to understand, the valet can take a long time to get your car. If you give plenty of notice and tell the front desk what time you need your car, you'll be fine. I have no complaints at all. If you're looking for a Hilton or a Hyatt kind of place though, this is not for you, but if a small, clean, comfortable place where you know what your bill will be, I found the King George to be a great choice. Just spent about 5 days at the King George while attending a conference at the Hilton around the corner. It was very nice to get out of the bustling conference atmosphere and retire to the calm of the King George. The King George is a great little boutique hotel near the shopping and cable car turn around. Old building, quirky rooms and layout. Lots of charm. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Made sure to be looking for me late when my flight was delayed due to weather. They lock the front doors after midnight but someone is at the front desk. Plus they booked me a shuttle back to the airport so I didn't have to worry about finding a cab. Lots of international staff (who speak English well) and international travelers which makes for a really nice atmosphere. I liked the toiletries provided. The single most comfortable bed I have slept on in a hotel. I highly recommend the hotel. OTOH, My husband would have hated it. Not because it isn't very nice, but because he is a 6 foot tall, broad shouldered guy who hates closed in spaces. The room itself was OK sized for walking around, but only because the tiny dresser had been placed at the back of the closet rather than in the room. Back of the closet, you know, behind where all the clothes hang? Did I also mention that the dresser was where the coffee maker was set up? Plus, the door to the closet was not wide enough that five foot me could make it through without touching my shoulders. Similarly tight space was found at the vanity in the bathroom and the desk in the main bedroom. To me, all this was a quirky use of space in a small hotel based in an antique building. But be aware in case it is not your style hotel. The negatives, I would not have wanted to stay in the room with two people. The size of the bathroom and closet would not have made it practical. Hot water was a little slow to get started but there was plenty once it did. The tub was taller than my knee. This wasn't a problem for me, but if you have troubles getting in and out of the bath, definitely check on accessibility rooms. Overall, I was quite pleased with the room and the Hotel. I would definitely stay there again when headed to SF. Collapse

We booked 2 rooms here, my wife and I in one and daughter and boyfriend, they accommodated us by getting us next door. Room 907 and 908. Pros: Convenient bar downstairs Very friendly staff Great views Good location Great restaurant next door(mason cafe) Very clean rooms and comfortable beds Valet parking $$$ HD flat screens WiFi Nice hot showers Cons: 908 suffered no problems, 907 was different Heater broken first night, very cold, thin blankets, they sent up a space heater and that also did not work. Then they fixed the heater on the second night. The hair dryer very weak not a problem she used ours. then during the very raining night the window leaked quite a bit. It woke my daughter up early before 5 am with the dripping, and then she found the floor was soaked in about a 2 foot square. She had to move her luggage and different items so as not to get wet. We advised the staff of this upon check out a few hours later. Although they took notice, we were not offered any compensation i.e.; reduced price, free parking, comped meal anything? The one thing you do expect from a hotel is to stay dry. The price for the rooms were good but as they quoted"this hotel is over a hundred years old and it does need some maintenance". The price for parking is ginormous, on there behalf they point out a garage across the street as an alternative. Since public transport around the area is good, I would recommend that instead of a car if possible. Good service, friendly staff, and charming atmosphere win out in the end, we would go back. The hotel is valued for money and located at the heart of the downtown area. The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. Although the rooms are small but it clean while being very comfortable. Overall a very good stay.
