Stayed here overnight. Very enjoyable time had. The venue is very well maintained. You know from the drive up, once you see the castle on the hill, that you're in for a grand experience. Room was very comfortable and spacious. We availed of the Thermal Suite facilities as part of the deal, all was satisfactory there. We reserved a place in the Douglas Hyde restaurant in the evening. While the food is expensive, we thought it was well worth it. Food is available from the bar during the day for those who don't want to avail of the food in the restaurant. We found the service was attentive and courteous throughout. We were very happy with our stay here, although the one night was fine for us (there isn't a whole lot else to do in the venue apart from relaxing - which is just what we wanted). A lovely stay for those looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of life. Collapse

My wife and I have stayed in this establishment a year or so ago and it is beautiful to say the least. Staff are friendly, helpful and will always work hard to please visitors. The surroundings are amazing, spectacular in fact ! ... However getting back to why we visited in this occasion. My wife and I stopped off for a spot of lunch on our return home from our stay at Rosscommon (gleesons guesthouse) as we had taken our time sightseeing on the road home and wanted a lite bite to eat. My wife had soup and I had ham and cheese sandwiches while we sat in the bar area to the left side of the building on entry. Reasonable prices, reasonable food and opulent surroundings with nice folk sitting around from various parts of Ireland and beyond. All in all a pleasant hour was spent here before embarking on the road home to the North of Ireland. We will be sure to return at some stage for another weekend break if there are any good deals available on the usual familiar short break web sites. We hope you enjoy your stay or lunchtime treats as we have. Dave and Jenny, Carrickfergus N-Ireland. Collapse

My partner and myself had a lovely night away here recently. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful in all parts of the hotel, including reception, concierge, bar, dining areas, and spa. Thermal suite is a luxurious addition, however the pool and associated steam room, jacuzzi, and sauna are romantic and relaxing if the budget is tight. Lovely peaceful woodland/lakeside path not too groomed which adds to the nature therapy. We visited in February, not sure if there is more outdoor activities in summer, however is an ideal location if hotel were looking to expand into hawk walks or horse trekking etc. Collapse

We stayed here for the weekend in room 116. The room was just ok. I had been looking forward to going for ages and for some reason I had this idea of a sumptuous, sympathetically decorated castle and rooms but it wasn't to be unfortunately. The rooms could definitely do with an input from an interior decorator. We were in the old part of the castle and the windows are tiny which makes the room very dark. We got an upgrade to a corner suite with a four poster bed which was lovely although the decor was still the same. This room had more windows so it was a little brighter. There was a lovely roll top bath in the separate bathroom. The castle itself is a bit of a mismatch of bars. The reception had a nice gas fire and a couple of cosy sofas although it was cold when the front door opened. There is a drawing room bar but there were only a couple of cosy chairs. In the dungeon bar there is a strange collection of tables and chairs and nooks and crannies which sound nice but there's no atmosphere in it. And if you're at the back of the bar it's dingy and dull. I'm still not sure what the Palm Court area was, it seemed to serve a few different roles as I saw people drinking in it and eating in it and getting married in it! The leisure centre and spa are fabulous although I wouldn't spend the extra 15 euro on the thermal area as it consisted of a large hydro area, hot and cold small pools, a couple of showers and chill out area. The swimming pool has a tub, sauna and steam room which were just as lovely as the thermal area. This hotel is owned by the same chain as Lough Rynn but Kilronan is more expensive for food and drink which I can only put down to the lack of spa at Lough Rynn. Kilronan Castle lacks atmosphere in my opinion and it could do with some redecoration with an input from someone who has experience in sympathetic design. It has no real authentic areas apart from the main reception which is lovely. Collapse

I chose this hotel to stay for a weekend to celebrate my birthday with 4 of my girlfriends and it was the best choice I made! The castle is simply stunning and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Everything about the stay was exquisite: the food, The service, the comfy rooms. Not to mention the spa was unreal and we come from london where we have some brilliant spas and this was definitely comparable. We also spent some time walking around the forest/lake area nearby and found some old ruins which was just wonderful. This place is a hidden gem and I couldn't recommend enough! Would be perfect for a couples break also. Collapse
