This hotel had been recommended by friends, I stumbled across a deal for a "luxury espace" on escapes.ie and thought it would be nice for a night away. The deal was "€85 for 1 Night for Two People including a Glass of Prosecco and a Box of Chocolates on Arrival, a Complimentary Bottle of Wine when Dining, Unlimited Access to the Leisure Facilities and Full Irish Breakfast". The check in time was very late at 4pm, this wasn't explained on the phone when booking, but I had looked it up online in advance. When we arrived we were given a voucher for the prosecco to be redeemed at the bar. Nothing was offered in the way of information regarding breakfast or access to leisure facilities, we assumed this would be in the room. The decor in the room itself was stylish and simple, but with a view of the car park, the bathroom was not in keeping the the room at all, it felt old and and in need of a face-lift. The TV was tiny and given that it was a large enough room you had to squint to be able to watch it. After popping into town we decided to have our prosecco in the bar. The barman went to get a new bottle and used the remnants of the old bottle to fill our glasses, as such we each had a flat glass of prosecco in the dead bar, so we decided to leave it and return to our rooms. The room was quiet at night and I would've had a perfect sleep had it not been for the extremely uncomfortable pillows, otherwise it was fine. The box of chocolates on arrival never happened and were not in our room... I wasn't feeling petty enough to go and ask for them, but this is just something that should have been done and what we had been expecting. All of the little extras we were expecting didn't come to fruition. We were pretty tired and didn't fancy waking up for breakfast, so I decided I'd fill out the breakfast in bed form that was explained in the visitors book for an additional €5, however said form was no where to be seen. Realising that the breakfast was probably going to be an ordeal as well, we decided we would rather have sleep in and not bother. For a 4 star hotel, i was expecting a bit more luxury and for everything to go as smoothly as it should have, luckily we had a discounted night away through escapes.ie because i would've been even more disappointed having to pay full price, In summary Hotel Kilkenny is a standard hotel which offers nothing more special than any other hotel. Just returned from a weekend break with the girls at the Hotel Kilkenny. The staff at this property offer an exceptional service, each and every one of them were friendly and helpful and went above and beyond whether it was at reception, in the bar or at breakfast service. The hotel itself would no longer be of 4* standard, the decor is tired and requires updating as does bathroom fixings carpets floors etc. What was once a luxury hotel is now a shadow of its former self. I would stay here again if I was visiting for a night out in Kilkenny but not for a relaxing weekend break. Collapse

After booking the hotel me and my wife were looking forward to the get away. With hotel kilkenny being a four star we were looking forward to it. We booked in and went to the pool area. It was nice and had a lovely setting but steam room was out of order. We went for food that night in the bar. Food was lovely and barman was very friendly. Didn't get his name but I heard him say he was a carlow man. The problem we had was with two young kids we were looking forward to getting a good night's sleep. Unfortunately that didn't happen at around 03.00 in the morning we heard people banging and singing above us. Luckily we fell back asleep soon after but woke again at 04.30 to hear this still going on only louder, after a half an hr listening to this racket I had to get up and see where the noise coming from. Two floors above us a party was going on in a room. I asked them to tone it down to no avail. Long story short I had to find a night Porter to go speak to them. We came home from our night away shattered, as if we had being up all night with our own kids. We were very disappointed to say the least. Collapse

Booked into this hotel Saturday gone for a little relaxing break with my friend. The room for one night was not cheap it was 150 euro but we did not mind paying as it is advertised as a 4* hotel. Check In is not permitted til 4pm which is a bit ridiculous considering price 2pm check in should be standard. Hotel room was ok it's dated and we stayed in a deluxe room.the bathroom had fixtures hanging off , the tiolet seat was loose and there was green stuff around the taps of the bath. We got ready and went to the leisure centre for a sauna and a steam but unfortunately the steam room was out of service. We booked afternoon tea In the bar and for some strange reason we where sat miles away from anyone In a room all on our own I found this to be quite strange we had to ask for clean cutlery as the cutlery on the table was filthy and one teacup had a huge chip out of it. Now I was thinking perhaps I'm nit picking but I don't believe I was this hotel is advertised as a 4 star hotel and it's little things like this that you don't expect to have to complain about. Later in the night we ordered room service as the food smelled quite nice we ordered two portions of wings and requested that they be hot sauce wings we where told no problem as they are on the menu. We also ordered two chicken curries. The food bill was 50euro and disgusting is not the word the chicken curry tasted just like a microwave one you would purchase from Dunnes the rice was hard . The wings where cold and had no flavour whatsoever they came with a garlic sauce so we rang down again to say we had ordered hot wings we where told no garlic is all we have .Em no it's on the menu to which the guy responds oh yeah so IL send some hot sauce up. The room service food was so bad we ended up just putting the tray outside the door wings where not even touched awful waste of money .this hotel is not a bad hotel despite my complaints its actually quite nice and the staff are generally very helpful but it is by no stretch of the imagination a 4* the pictures online oversell it so be warned it is a 3*at best.
