This hotel looks nice from the outside and in public area however my room 207 looked tired and dated tiny tv bathroom in need of a refit. But this was the least of the problems. After a long day driving we had a early night or that was the plan the room was close to reception and they have a magnetic door that closes and when it does close it makes a loud bang this went on throughout the night along with other peoples doors making a lot of noise when the door closes they could do with fitting soft closing system on all of the doors. This led to very little sleep. Then at 3 o’clock in the morning we heard ticking which sounded like it was water coming from the roof but with with further thought it could’ve been a fan outside. We did ask for a room change. The room was a lot bigger family room bathroom was stunning however whoever plumber had mixed the hot and cold the wrong way. We didn’t have the noise of the doors shutting but at 3am we had the ticking which disturb my sleep. So not a great stay. Breakfast was excellent with waiter service and cooked fresh couldn’t fault it plus fresh pancakes were on the menu. Use of the pool and gym were included that was nice hot tub was very hot and steam and sauna excellent. The gym and pool is not just for people in the hotel so can get busy. Free WiFi great no problems. Staff friendly and helpful but the hotel was unable to provide a good nights sleep for the whole stay. So I’m afraid I would not say again. Collapse
Not three star - except for the food.

Very average hotel. Room basic - no fridge or safe. No doors on wardrobe. Bathroom very basic, contained no magnifying mirror, though shower was good. Bar at night dull. Only for the rugby match, no atmosphere. The live entertainment was probably the worst I've ever heard - in fact no one was listening. Spa was amateurish, no proper relaxation area, generally not up to much. The big advantage and saving grace was the food, which was excellent. Both the evening meal and the breakfast were superb. I have stayed in Hotel Kilkenny for the past 4 weeks now on business and the staff there have been excellent throughout the entire visit. A bonus for me was the access to the high quality gym in the Hotel along with the swimming pool & Steam Room. While a short walk outside the centre of the city, the hotel was ideally located for access to the local Business Park. Good food, attentive staff and lovely rooms. The one small issue I had was on my third week I had a very small table in the room which was not ideal for working on the laptop at night. Collapse

Hotel Kilkenny is one that I am very familiar with & have stayed there on a few occasions as well as being a member of their leisure centre while I was living in Kilkenny. Upon this visit we were staying there for my sisters wedding in mid December. When checking in the reception area is very nice and welcoming after they renovated this area maybe at a guest say 15 years ago but it still looks very fresh and clean. We had booked a family room for two nights so we had a chance to have a look around and see what the full facilities are now. As I said we had a family room and this is where the hotel is let down as these rooms have not been done up or freshened up at all over the years and this is evident to see. I recall staying in what could actually be the same room perhaps six years ago and it hasn’t changed at all. The room itself really needs to be freshened up with even touch ups of paint to make it look cleaner. The beds are ok and were not very comfortable and the amenities were poor enough with a tiny tv in them (the late late toy show was on that night & the kids were watching as well as myself). The bathrooms are a disappointment with the tiles broken in places and actually dirty looking in the need of replacing and as I said before these are not hugely expensive things to keep in check but the room was certainly not worth the price that was paid for it and this was even at a price that was supposedly part of a wedding party rate. All this compared to other hotels and resorts it pains me to say it but it’s just not at the races here with the family rooms anyway. On to the plus side which thankfully there is a few to report. As I mentioned I was previously a member of their leisure centre which is there a few years now but it is still well kept and has a lovely pool with plenty of other amenities so great for the kids as well as a good size gym. The breakfast was ok and nothing special with your usual offerings including some cereals and full irish etc so this was easily accessible close to the main reception. We were there for a family wedding and I’m pleased to say that the wedding food and service were very good..plenty of food and they had a supervisor directing plenty of staff to ensure people were not waiting long at all so this was very well done. The quality of the food here I have to say was also very good and no complaints here. I did get the opportunity to view the numerous rooms they use for wedding receptions etc and we were in the rose garden one which was very nice and spacious but they also have one on the top floor which has floor to ceiling windows which have super views of the Kilkenny area. In conclusion this is a nice place and I see this a lot where money is spent on the initial impression i.e reception, front of house areas so it gives a good impression of the place but it is then subsequently let down by the condition of the rooms. This is exactly the case here and it is a pity as the hotel is popular and in general could be so much better if they would just do something with the accommodations so hopefully they will and this could be one of the best hotels in the area but at the moment it’s not. As always thank you so much for reading. JR. Collapse
