Here with the wife and 3 sons (13, 11, 7). Pleasantly surprised with the Oceanview Suite (2 rooms, full kitchen, one bath, pull-out sofa) which has a great view of the pool and sound. Little things like a crappy coffee maker and no plates/bowls to eat off of take away from the experience a bit, but nothing major. The pool is amazing. It opens right to the private beach and sound/lagoon. Again, amazing. The property adjoins Gus's restaurant and a dive shop. Rather than haul the kids to the restaurant after a long day in the sun, we were advised to order food to the room, which is the exact same menu as Gus's. Unfortunately, the Marriott staff places the order for you, which led to major mistakes on our $200 meal. One bottle of wine wound up as 2, fries turned into fruit cups, and a sauce-free sandwich was slathered in it. When we called to fix it, they were nice enough, but they didn't seem surprised at all. SO....I would just eat at Gus's rather than order in the future. The tiki bar next to the pool looked great, until you get closer. We arrived around 4 PM and there were discarded food plates, stomped maraschino cherries on the ground, napkins blowing around, etc. The bartender was somehow in the weeds with 4-5 guests waiting for canned beer. She was nice enough though. Hopefully today is better. Overall though, we'd probably come back for a day or two. Oh, TONS of kids here. Collapse

My observations are based on a ten-night stay, using points as a Lifetime Platinum member. This was the first time my husband and I have stayed in the Upper Keys, and only the third time we have stayed at a hotel, rather than rent a house on a canal. We will be back! The hotel is well situated on Florida Bay with great amenities on the water - a nice beachside pool; two separate beach areas for swimming; tiki huts with comfortable chairs; gas fire pits; an onsite dive shop with two dive boats; parasailing; fishing guides; kayak, and paddle board rentals, even two helipads. The two boat basins for guest boats are convenient, and have water and power on the dock. Dockage is not reserved. Even on the busy Father's Day weekend, space was tight, but we had no trouble with space to tie up. We launched our 20' powerboat using the hotel's boat ramp. The ramp is very narrow, uneven, and steep. To load the boat back on the trailer at the end of our stay, we paid $10 to use the far superior ramp at the Caribbean Club, just down the road from the Marriott. If we return, we will not use the hotel's ramp, at all. For a smaller watercraft, such as a jet ski, the hotel ramp is adequate. There is plenty of space in which to park a trailer toward the hotel's convention center. Our room on the fourth/top floor was comfortable, and had a nice Bay view - an extra charge which is well worth the expense. The balcony, with its rocking chairs, was a favorite spot. The view from the lower floors is blocked by Gus's, the hotel restaurant. Because of our extended stay, and traveling with a boat, and an inflatable stand up paddle board, we had a lot of gear to store in our room. If it had not been for the very comfortable king-sized bed which was high enough off the floor to put suitcases, dive gear, etc., underneath, space in the room would have been very tight. Those of short stature may have difficulty climbing onto the high bed, however. There are two reasons why I have not given the hotel a full five "stars". Marriott is stingy with its breakfast for its loyal rewards members. Sheraton, for instance, provides a free breakfast for rewards members for their entire stay. Marriott only provided one free continental breakfast for each of us for one day of our stay. After trying the free breakfast, we determined it was better to drive down the street to Evelyn's for excellent breakfasts under $10, than to pay $28/person for breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The second reason I have not given the hotel full marks, is the rude employee who told us that we had two minutes to clear out of the boat basin because a wedding was about to begin on the adjacent beach. Had we been given advanced warning of the time of the wedding, we would have either arrived in the boat basin earlier, or come in later in order not to upset the wedding. As it turned out, we were rudely told that our boat could stay, but we had to go, leaving thousands of dollars of equipment unsecured on our boat until the wedding was over. We were not overly concerned that our things would "walk", and we could appreciate clearing out for this special event, but a little diplomacy from the hotel employee would have been appreciated. We found out from someone else that such rudeness toward boaters before a wedding was not an isolated event. All in all, this was a wonderful experience. Collapse

We were down here for an event and watch Brandon, beach was awesome, amenities are awesome, and the staff was friendly. I would stay here again in a hot minute. Rooms were awesome, with awesome views, and the dive shop is right there at the hotel

I had to leave Coconut Grove for an unexpected business journey for a couple of nights and was told to stay at the more expensive Playa Largo resort. Well I had stayed at the Playa Largo resort back in February and although my beach bungalow was huge, it was a detached feeling and overall not what I wanted. Maybe for a romantic get away but too secluded and quiet. The Marriott Key Largo was perfect! Yes it is dated but if you want new, stay in Miami.. The water is right there, plenty of bars, casuak cafes to walk & sandy vball court too. The pool bar is happnin' & the barstaff so friendly! U can walk right from pool over to take a charter on Captain Michael Morriott's (not spelled like the hotel) boat & His better half Suzy will show you around as well and make you feel like family. In fact, this captain/gf team also came to my rescue when my cpt had emergency surgery next day & could not take my boat out of Keys. I would have never gotten her out without his help or staying at Marriott Key Largo vs elsewhere. I stayed longer than I had planned & only wish the rooms had been better priced. I would return anyways bc of the location & staff. I would only add that the only negative was the tiny work out facility & the loud music in that small area- u had to wait for a machine & cant hear ur own music. But will add that You probably arent in Key Largo for an exercise room.. See you next time, Marriott Key Largo. Collapse
