This is a 5 star hotel that lives up to its billing. The lobby area has the blue fox bar and nobu restaurant which are both worth a visit. Breakfast is an extensive buffet with a few a la carte items, recommended. The hotel also has a small but modern gym, pool and sauna area all are free to use for hotel guests. The rooms are comfortable and mainly quiet. I say mainly because we were on a high floor just below the central heating system, which begins rattling at 7am, so for one morning we lost some sleep. I would have give it 5 if it were not for this. That said, when we complained the hotel reception they were instantly helpful moving us to a new room with minimal fuss. To add to the class of the front desk team, they took a huge chunk off the final bill, without us asking. I got the impression the heating system was due to be fixed but may be worth checking before you agree to a high floor room. Collapse

So before I begin I would like to say that my wife and I travel quite a bit(at least 4 trips a year) and have been blessed with staying at some of the best properties around the world. Be it the Plaza at Paris, Burj at Dubai, Taj palaces in India, or most of the Four Seasons around Asia we have always been pampered and been lucky enough to have superb memories. I had to visit Budapest on work and picked the Kempinski for a low profile work oriented 2 1/2 week stay. I arrived alone and loved the property and place so much, that I actually coaxed my wife to join me for the last week of my stay and after years of travel this is the first place that made me take the time off to write a review, because I felt such excellent service at all levels needed acknowledgment. -First of all the location is just fantastic, a hop away from everything, you can't do better -Now if i were going to compare the room and amenities with the properties I mentioned above, it wouldn't be fair because of the huge price difference... then what is it that made me write this review.... -So they got the basics right, the room was spacious for the price, cleaned well, decent bed and pillows, and inspite of the noisy christmas market(which was delightful when you were down there) was absolutely quite and dark with the windows shut.(Room 801), the Gym was of a modest size but well equipped, breakfast fairly elaborate, skilled therapists at the spa, but what sets them apart, and has me sitting down to this, is the people that they have working there. Starting from my check in experience in with Boglarka, Mate.... To the ladies in red Jelena, Anna and Petra... A Superb concierge Andras and Tomas(these guys are something else) And Gyuri and in his absence Dani who made me feel at home during my morning breakfasts. The Budapest Kempinski in my opinion has undoubtedly amongst the best staff that has ever looked after me and 2 and 1/2 weeks is a long time to not slip up once.I have always maintained being a doctor, that in healthcare and hospitality its not the rules that make people feel special but the exceptions, and each and every single one of them made us feel special and endeared thought our stay, and I will miss them and can't wait to go back. There is a definition of quality that is fitness for purpose. As a place to stay for a leisurely break with a loved one - great - as a business trip hotel it wasn't a great match for me. Why? Lots of attention to service that are all in the wrong place for my needs. The on-site restaurant would appear to try to be 'the place to be seen if your a local spending the local average manual worker weekly wage on a steak'. On top it is 32 euro for breakfast! extra on this room rate! c'mon that's mostly or even totally consumed any daily expense allowance before even considering dinner. Bed sheets changed every day!? really! while the wifi runs at a snails pace unless one chooses to pay extra - on top of these room rates! really? In fact according to speedtest.net my fone internet access was 20mb while the hotel was under one :( The shower fluctuates hot and cold. Clearly an infrastructure issue that isn't easy to fix. Was I fussed at the trolley of dirty room service plates in the hall way between my room and the lift? There when I went past at 5pm, 7pm and 9pm?- normally I wouldn't give it much attention but it doesn't match the price-tier to service equivalence I'd expect. The one day I did breakfast - Saturday am before my flight home - the experience was best forgotten. The 'Show to the table' process was a joke - no explanation of what process is followed, for example for coffee/ juice/ eggs etc or where things where located. So I missed the Bircher museli, didn't get have a juice, had sweet bread with my self served hot (eggless) elements, had to wander about till I found who did coffee - thankfully this waiter did everything I expect in a top level place and stepped beyond the narrow brief of his coffee station but by then i was passed needing eggs, plain bread was what i wanted with the hot but not now i'd passed that point. A poor let down at a premium price. A management failing to put a less than competent person on the front line. Good would have been the nicely appointed room (check) with inclusive and fast wifi(fail), a place to eat and enjoy a couple beers in the evening inside a decent corporate allowance so i had the choice of whether i went out to find a restaurant or just stayed in(fail) and a breakfast that was included or at least a sensible price(fail) and a shower that maintained a steady temperature(fail). Centrally located so walking out to find a restaurant and everything else is very convenient. Collapse
