I use the Kempinski on business frequently and have always had a very pleasant stay. Rooms quiet with full blackouts and good beds so a great night's sleep - bathrooms spacious and although a little 'tired' are clean and well serviced. Not used the main restaurants but breakfast is very good (hot and cold buffet) with attentive service. Choice of bars selling snacks and bowling alley / sports bar downstairs. Reception / concierge great and could not be more helpful - thanks to Shadi and Razan particularly on my last stay for their help with waking up a sleepy colleague and getting us out quickly to make the flight ! Will definitely use on future trips Collapse

We transferred to this hotel because the Meridien did not have cooling in the rooms. They said they did. Which after 3 hours of complaining, they did get to work! Frustrating to say the least and it involved moving rooms. Spa is fabulous especially free hot tub etc. Staff there are friendly and really helpful. Rooms are good as you would expect re comfort space etc. All I would say is post menopausal women beware! Collapse

Kempinski Hotel To whom it may concern With regret I feel the need to record my total disappointment in relation to my new year booking at the Jordan Amman Kempinski Hotel. The visit was arranged to meet up with my wife who was flying from London and myself flying from my workplace at Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. I originally booked a hotel via booking.com then my wife did some internet searching only to discover the Kempinski hotel was recognised as a great venue and were also advertising what appeared to be a fantastic New Year Gala Dinner. I took the decision to cancel my existing booking and booked the Kempinski. We arrived at the hotel near midnight Wednesday 28th December and immediately noticed how cold the reception and café bar areas were. We decided to take a drink before going to the room and had to do so sat in our coats due to the temperature. Whilst our order was taken immediately, the service took that long I had to go looking for someone to check the waiter hadn’t gone home. Retiring to the room the hotel temperature didn’t improve in the corridors, and worse was to come as despite very cold conditions outside, the room A/C was at 21c leaving the room very cold. Despite attempts the A/C unit would not change temperature so was turned off until the next day. It was then discovered the shower corner rack was old, broken and not maintained as I would expect in any 5-star hotel. [picture enclosed] Further annoyance was the bedside light switches only turned on the whole rooms lights, so a visit to the bathroom resulted in lighting the whole room. The following day Thursday 29th December] we advised reception about the A/C problem and got assured it would be rectified. After returning from a day sightseeing we were very pleased to enter the room and acknowledge the heat immediately, but on opening the bathroom door we discovered a very bad water leak from the ceiling resulting in a huge puddle of water. Contacting reception, we were advised our room would be changed as soon as we were able to pack our belongings. Arriving at the new room we unpacked our belonging and started to notice how shabby it was with regards the furniture, cleaning and painting The bedside table was appalling and looked like it was eaten away by nail varnish remover [picture enclosed], plus I was able to draw a shape in the dust. [picture enclosed] The ceiling around the light looked like it had been pained by a child [picture enclosed] Deciding to take a shower we then discovered some bits on the tiles [picture enclosed]and that we had no hot water so rang for maintenance. The hot water took 7 minutes with bath and sink running to obtain water hot enough for washing and showering and this continued until we left [ even after also advising the duty manager on 31st December] Deciding to open the curtain the next morning [Friday 30th December] my wife slightly moved the arm chair to first discover a grubby black sock [picture enclosed] then windows that couldn’t have been cleaned for years [picture enclosed] We used the coffee bar each day and all the tables had afternoon tea advertised so we decided we would take afternoon tea, check booking requirements for the New Year Gala Dinner and eat at the Italian restaurant. Little did we expect things could get worse but they did! First we were advised the hotel didn’t do the afternoon tea any longer yet it was still advertised on each table. Secondly we got advised the New Year Gala Dinner wasn’t available because one family had booked it but we could attend the disco in striker’s bar where fast food was available – given we had changed hotels for the very purpose of the dinner we were extremely disappointed and advised we would not be interested in a disco. After preparing to go out for dinner we left our room later that evening to attend the Italian restaurant but immediately observed extremely load disco music and when we exited the lift the noise was unbearable. As the restaurant was next the function room hosting a wedding it was not feasible to remain and eat but on a bright note we witness a guest leaving the wedding party wearing winter ear protectors! On Saturday 31st December we visited Jarash still not knowing where we would celebrate new year and returned to the hotel mid-afternoon where we immediately noticed signs at reception advertising new year dinner deals for the Italian and observation bar. We spoke with reception about what the packages were and why these weren’t offered the previous day, and the receptionist sent us to the coffee bar for a complimentary drink whilst she called the manager. Immediately we observed 3 staff at the counter and all the afternoon tea offers still on the table. Wed discussed our total dissatisfaction and were offered both another room change plus 25% discount off the 2 advertised events which were both refused as we didn’t want to be packing our things again plus we didn’t like the menus on offer, nor sitting listening to a pianist in a coffee bar for the evening. I advised the manager the afternoon tea was still being advertised and showed him the New Year Gala Dinner was still advertised on their website. When we left 30 minutes later nobody had again not collected the afternoon tea table advertisements. No doubt whoever the family who booked the function room were, then they were important as we bypassed police at the entrance plus 2 additional rows of road barricades on the way out and on our return found all roads surrounding the hotel were closed off by armed guards which resulted in a totally inacceptable walk back to the hotel from the taxi drop off point. Sunday 1st January was uneventful as we got up and went out for the day, whilst Monday 2nd January was our best day as we got up, booked out and reflected on how badly managed, maintained and cleaned hotel it is. Would I ever pay to stay in a Kempinski hotel again -NEVER It’s very apparent hotel guests are treated with total contempt while you falsely advertise to draw trade into this hotel that in all honesty is the worst hotel we have ever had the misfortune to book. I have stayed in small guest houses and 3 star hotels that have finer attention to detail and respect for its paying guests. If you feel the criticism and pictures I have enclosed are the acceptable standard for a 5 start hotel then please accept my apologies, but I would suggest you consider a career change! Collapse
