I'd visited the Kaktus a couple of years ago with Saga but found it much cheaper with Jet2 Holidays so decided to have a cheap February week in the sun. It got off to a bad start when I arrived and the surly receptionist seemed to have no record of my booking. I had to wait two hours, with no apology, for him to find one. I asked if it had the afternoon sun I'd had on the previous visit and he said it had, with mountain view. When I got to it, it did have a mountain view but no side sea view. As I was coming down with a virus (nothing to do with the hotel) and the receptionist had said the hotel was full (it most certainly was not) I just collapsed into bed. Only when I checked a couple of days later, when I was feeling better, did I see that my invoice specified the side sea view. By this time I couldn't be bothered to change but it shouldn't have happened. (As it happened, I quite liked the mountain view as it did get afternoon sun till late and the balcony was much more private than the others) I felt the food quality had gone down though it is still good for the price though, as before, Fish Night has very little for non-fish eaters. The lunches were adequate for the £4 a day Jet 2 charges for them but not remotely as good as the evening meal. The waiting staff are wonderful but one of the head waiters is unsmiling, unwelcoming and frequently actually rude. The restaurant opens for breakfast at 8. If you have an early departure they will give you a packed breakfast. This consists of an inedible shop-bought (why?) Spam sandwich, a small yogurt, and unripe pear and satsuma and a banana. Before a longish journey or excursion I would like a coffee and maybe a bread roll, in the dining room, not having to fetch a cold plastic bag from reception to take to the room. I would have thought a 4* hotel could manage that, All in all, I won't be going back even at the cheaper price. It seems like a hotel that has stopped caring about its customers, most of whom are older. I notice the Spanish are using it much less than they did on my last visit - maybe they feel the same. It might be worth mentioning that with Jet 2 I saved about 30% of the price Saga were charging for pretty much the same thing. With Saga, however, the transfer was, I recall, under an hour, with Jet 2 it was two long hours as the coach dropped off at numerous hotels in Benidorm. Jet2 has no rep in the resort, let alone the hotel. I don't know if the mistake with my room was down to Jet2 or the unhelpful receptionist but my feeling was that he would have paid more attention to a Saga customer. You pays your money and takes your choice, I suppose. Collapse
a bit of a dissapointment

We had been booked into a 4star hotel in Albir, and it turned out to be very bad indeed. So we checked out after staying for one night only and checked into the Albir Kaktus Hotel the next day with all our luggage... We needed 3 more night's accommodation, with no advanced notice.... First of all we met Mr.Hugo Bazzio. He was so professional and efficient and welcoming.... It straight away made our experience of Albir good again. I would like to say to the management of the Kaktus Hotel in Albir, you have a very good employee here at reception! Treasure him, and pay him well to keep him in your hotel. What a difference to the first hotel we stayed in !. He was so welcoming and professional and efficient. The room we got was lovely, the food was great, and we absolutely LOVED our stay. We will be back. We have relations in Albir and we will always need a hotel in Abiri two or three times a year, and due to Hugo professionalism and afterwards Ilia also, we will never again look at any other hotel in Albir, than the Kaktus Hotel Collapse

We decided to try this hotel after visiting Albir in the summer. We were attracted to its great location right on the promenade and close to some nice bars and restaurants. The hotel has some interesting architecture and although I have seen some reviews criticising its decor, it is of its time. Our room was spacious and clean and the bathroom was one of those large bathrooms you often find in older hotels. We were surprised to find a kettle and cups in the room and we made use of the fridge for ten euros, which included the contents. When we were in Albir the weather wasn't very good and temperatures dropped but the heating in the room was more than adequate. We were more than happy with the restaurant and the food. The restaurant was quite relaxed (although not very busy) and we found a good selection of food. If I have any criticism of the restaurant it would be that not all the food was labelled. Some of it looked very interesting but there wasn't always a description of what it was. But all tastes were catered for with a salads, meat, fish and vegetable dishes. The desserts were good and there was always fresh fruit. We are not too bothered about entertainment but I think this might be a disappointment to some guests. It was usually a band and ballroom dancing. I think there was a parrot show one evening but we didn't stay in to watch it. When we did stay in the hotel we found the drinks reasonably priced and there was a good selection, especially the cocktails. We found most of the staff pleasant and helpful and would consider staying at the hotel again if we visited Albir again. And if I could mention the other guests because I have seen criticism that the hotel had a lot of older guests. I don't understand the criticism. Older people are entitled to a holiday like everyone else. The people we spoke to were very pleasant so don't let discriminatory comments put you off. We spoke to guests of all ages in the week we stayed there. Collapse

The buffet is unbelievable. Great food. Authentic Spanish meals as well as many different types of other foods. Most rooms have a sea view. The hotel kitchen throws away trash across the road in a dumpster every day around yhe same time. This happens really early in the morning and it’s very loud. However I didn’t complain. I should have . The room was not dated. I would love to go back Collapse
