"Dated" would be the word I'd use if only one were allocated to describe this property. All of the staff members were super friendly, which helped a lot. As did the free and convenient self parking option. Our suite in the Palm Tower had only one window (well, it was a french door), so it came across as too dark. Not so dark as to hide the pretzels left on the floor of our room by the previous resident, but pretty dingy. Things not up to the standards of other, more modern properties in Las Vegas: TV was small (it had to fit in the 90's furniture designed for tube TVs), lights next to the bed and built into the headboard didn't work anymore, shower head was tired and weak, furniture was banged up, bathroom looked dated (but included 90's hits like gold fixtures, a bidet and a lighted vanity mirror that only looked at the ground). On the positive side, the room was large, the bedding was very nice and there was turndown service on most nights (including small chocolate candy). The Palm Tower would not be our choice next time. Most of the time a single, courteous bellhop constituted the entire staff of this tower. The bottom floor seems to be all conference area, and that dominates the feel of the building. It feels more like a conference center with rooms, rather than a luxury resort. If you want quite, spacious accommodations, this is a still good choice in Vegas -- especially if you don't mind a little 90's vibe thrown in. We'll look for a more updated option next time. Collapse

We stayed in the Palm wing which has its own small reception desk that is not always manned but if you want a quieter stay, ask for this wing. Ground floor rooms also have a great patio area. Rooms are spacious and well furnished, bathrooms are great. Only issue was the older lounger covers outside, old and stained. The hotel seems to be two very different hotels. The Casino is obviously for the local market, as are the main cafes and restaurants there. The Hawthon Grill is more upmarket, for breakfast buffet and dinner. The main buffet and cafe offer excellent value, but quality is not great. Overall if you want a good value resort experience with good value this is a place to go. Collapse
So much for gold status.

Beautiful hotel. Nice staff. Upon check in we were told the pool was close. The lobby bar, the only bar in the hotel itself, was closed for private party. They won’t honor my gold status for free breakfast buffet and free cocktails in concierge lounge, like I get world wide. Also hotel nightly rate won’t apply to my gold status. I guess that’s my fault, as I was told, as I didn’t book directly with the hotel. Live and learn. This place sure doesn’t offer what I am used to world wide as a Gold. Won’t go back. Collapse
More hotel, less casino

So many hotels in Las Vegas are built around a casino complex, and while unfortunately the JW Marriott isn't an exception, the casino here (the Rampart) at least feels like it takes a back seat to the rest of the hotel. You can check in and get to your room without ever having to step foot on the casino floor. For those of us going to Las Vegas to not gamble and/or see shows, this is a welcome change. The location is far away from the strip and close to a golf course. The only practical way here is by car (either taxi/rideshare or in your own vehicle). Parking is free, which you don't see every day at a JW. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. French doors open to a small balcony to take in the grounds. The bathroom has two sinks, a separate garden tub and waterfall shower. There are walk-in closets. The grounds are a relaxing walk in the morning. There are streams, small waterfalls, Koi ponds, and garden paths. It's a horrible use of water in the desert, but a visually appealing one. There is an outdoor pool and hot tub, but note the pool is seasonal so if you come in the winter it won't be open. The spa building has some shops and other usual spa services, but for those not paying for a massage, the draw here is the fitness center. There is a hydrotherapy pool outside (separate from the main outdoor pool), cardio fitness equipment, and weight training equipment. Unlike many hotels, the selection is a bit more varied here - you will also find spinning bikes, a pull-up station, weight machines and other equipment from your local gym. There is a Yoga studio as well. The casino itself is in the middle of everything and connects the buildings together, but by walking the grounds outside or along the fringes of the casino, you can avoid it for the most part. I recommend you do as, for those not familiar with Nevada, smoking is still permitted in casinos and you will invariably come across the acrid stench of it if you venture into the casino for long. There's no lounge here and breakfast isn't free, but the restaurants (and there's several) on the grounds have very reasonable prices, and are often cheaper than comparable restaurants at other casinos in Vegas. If you're looking to get away from the strip and want less casino and more quiet hotel, this may be the place you're looking for. Collapse

A two day stay in Las Vegas and we chose to return to the JW Marriott. Although the staff is friendly, their attention to detail and concern for their guests is lacking. We stayed on the fifth floor of the spa tower and were disappointed that the hallways and room were dated. The hallway wallpaper was discolored from the housekeeping carts, carpets were dirty with trash, and a fan was running in the hallway 24 hours/day for the two days were stayed. We tried to have lunch the afternoon we arrived, but were turned away from their newly renovated Hawthorn Grill. We were informed by the hostess the grill closed at 2 p.m., but with no offer of where we could dine. We returned the following morning to Hawthorn Grill to have breakfast and found our yogurt had expired three weeks earlier. We did visit Spa Aquae and Brenda and Garrick were the highlight of the trip. Both were professional, talented and were truly interested in our care and experience. We asked the night before we left about valet as we needed to leave at 3 a.m. and were assured someone would be outside only to find that was not the case when we arrived. As a Platinum member of Marriott with 900 stays, this was by far one of the most disappointing experiences I have had in some time. Collapse
