Booked a deluxe double with 2 beds, family of 3. I am a Gold member. The cost of the excellent location of being across Central Park is that the street noise is quite bad if you're not use to it. You are either facing the street or the back where the ventilation vents are so it's noisy either way. I was told all 2-bed family room faces the back so Central Park view was not an option. Initially was put in floor 5. Room was very small and the noise was not bearable for me. We switched to floor 11 next day (higher up from the vents). It was slightly better noise wise. Interestingly the room felt 30% bigger and apparently it was still classified as the same room type. Not perfect still, the carpet was so old that there was some carpet nails sticking up. Had to make sure we had slippers on at all time. There was no complimentary water by default but as gold member I had access to the lounge and I can bring bottle water up. However the lounge does not open beyond breakfast on Friday and weekends. Dinner and desserts provided at the lounge was excellent. The only drawback is that there is a lack of staff in there to clean tables which ruins the experience slightly. The staff and decor of the hotel at the lobby was faultless, as expected of any JW. Hard to give it 5 stars. I felt it lack the experience I expected from JW because of the location it's in. Also felt undervalued as a gold member since I was given the smallest room and had to complain to get out of it. Another tip: there are 2 laundry on the same (58th) street. One charges $25 minimum and the other $12.5 minimum. Far cheaper than hotel services. Collapse

Our stay was disappointing as we expected great quality after staying at other JW Marriotts We chose the hotel partly because we were able to book a King Suite which would fit our family of four and provide a view of the city. Upon arriving on Friday afternoon at 1:30 pm, we were told that our room was not going to be available (we were given two different reasons for this). We would be given two king rooms for the same price as the suite. After about 20 minutes of trying to register, I was told someone would call us when the room was ready. No one called so we tried again at 5 pm to check in (check in time is 4 pm). We were able to check in to one room but the other wasn't ready until about 7 pm. This has never happened to me before. In the morning one of the rooms smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. Also, there was hair all over the wall in the shower. I explained this to the front desk and they apologized and said they would address both issues. When we returned around noon, the room had been cleaned, hair was gone, but it smelled even more strongly of smoke. They sprayed the room a few times which helped but never eliminated the smoke smell. We reserved a rollaway bed for $75 per night for one of the kids, but it was the worst plastic mattress I have ever seen so we asked them to remove it, which they did. Additionally, our reservation was for a high-floor room with a city view. We did not get that. And the final blow was that we were overcharged, which we had to fix at check-out. On a positive note, the location across from Central Park is nice and the king beds were very comfortable. Collapse

We just finished a three night stay at this Central Park South hotel. How any property can have a third of its rooms under renovation and still hold it together is impressive. For us we return to this hotel over many other choices because of the front end service of their concierge staff. As of now they have three who are selected for the Clefs d'Or designation, the highest level in the world.. Kevin Oakes, head concierge is a remarkable man. He makes reservcations at Jean Georges or L'artusi or a window seat at The River Café when no one else can. And on indecently short notice. And when we're at those restaurants we are always given special recognition, special seating and welcome. The man has a gift of making restaurants find seating, and good seating. and the restaurants know it.. His attitude on every request is ''yes, I can do that'' then he figures out how.. Recently he sent a last minute text saying a guest had 2 tx sell to Hello Dolly that night if we wanted them. One just doesn't get that kind of personal service everywhere. The service we receive from this man is the nr. one reason we return to JWM Essex Housel now 3 times in the last 7-8 months. Good hotel made great by a good concierge staff. Collapse

As a frequent traveler I was taken by the upgraded lighting in the room that was on the floor, made the evening glow. Gorgeous corner suite overlooking Central Park, so convenient to mid-town restaurants and Broadway. My new favorite NYC hotel.
