The NH Jolly Madison Towers is a charming European style Hotel located in the heart of Manhattan on Madison Avenue at 38th Street. The NH Jolly Madison Towers offer its guests a combination of the warmth and elegance of Italian style, the charm of 1920's American architecture and modern facilities to meet today’s travellers needs.
The Deluxe rooms are located on the top floors of our building; several have a breathtaking view of the Empire State Building. Modern “minimalist” fine Italian Walnut furniture and internationally famous designer lamps, also featuring top of the line duvet covers, linen and pillows. Dual telephone lines with voicemail, room and bathroom lights with dimmers, and working desk with art deco black leather chairs. Cable TV, pay per view, iron and ironing board, safe box and individually controlled room temperature. The average size of the Deluxe bathroom is 80 sq feet, with sliding frosted glass doors. This hotel has no frills ... if you are looking for somewhere fancy with great facilities then this is not the hotel for you! However if what you want is a base - to have a good night sleep after a long day exploring the city then this is the hotel to book. Ok so the rooms are fairly small but perfectly sufficient for what I needed. The room itself was clean with a big (very comfy) bed, shower and bath and a tv (which had a poor signal but was watchable). The corridors and general state of the hotel was a bit run down and the carpets had seen better days - but I wasn't in NYC to spend time in the hotel so it didn't bother me! The location is great - less than 5 minutes to Grand Central Station and 10 mins to Times Sq. we walked everywhere and there is a great selection of places for breakfast, lunch and dinner nearby. The hotel staff were helpful and checking in and out was seamless. I didn't use the staff for anything else as I didn't need to but am confident that had I required anything then they would have been on hand to assist. All in all a great place in a great location as long as you don't have expectations too high. Collapse
Tired and dated but good location

5 mins grand central station 10 mins Times Square. We stayed here on our honeymoon. We never really expect anything from a hotel room except for a comfy bed and clean as it is simply a base for sleeping. This hotel was in a relatively good location for us. The staff are great very friendly and helpful. The hotel however is tired and dated with ugly green stained carpets. The rooms are ok we were put in a room overlooking the courtyard on the 11th floor . You need to avoid these rooms as they are noisy all night from the machinery plant below: you need the windows open as there is no air con in this hotel making the noise 10x worse so bear that in mind especially for the summer months. There is no tea, coffee or safe facilities in the rooms and the picture quality on the TVs, is not good. The wifi is good and free. And our bed was comfortable with the room serviced daily. I would recommend this hotel if your on a budget but do try and avoid the courtyard rooms at the back of the hotel especially if yr a light sleeper!! Collapse
Needing a hotel to be near Langone Center

I stayed at this hotel based on reviews from a different site and the price was right for a last minute 2 night stay in the city as we needed to be close by to NYU Langone. It stated that the hotel was 3 stars which we considered to be a good level of quality for our stay. When we arrived at the hotel and checked in, we were greeted with some very dreary and unhappy reps. You could tell that the person checking us in hated her job and had a very minimal customer service focus. It was almost as if we were annoying her for having to check us in. When we arrived at the room, it was the dirtiest room we have ever been in. I am attaching a picture of a Clorox wipe after wiping the desk in the room. It was clearly disgusting to say the least. The room was incredibly run down: the curtains were stained with black spots and you could tell they were once white or a beigey color; the wood of the chairs and desk was peeling off and had stains on it; the bed sheets barely covered the entire mattress (we had to request extra sheets to remake the bed so our feet wouldn’t be touching the mattress since the original sheets were like 10 inches shorter than the length of the bed); the towels were thin from overuse and we didn’t have enough for two (we had to ask for two new towels); the heating unit had a metal flap off that was supposed to cover the side so I had to reinstall it to prevent cold air from coming in; there was hair in the bathtub…. I could go on, but you get the drift. The only plus side was the location of the hotel. You are near many restaurants, public transportation and the hospital buildings. I wanted to go complain in person, but there was always a long line of people already complaining it seems. We Clorox wiped the entire room and put up our “Do Not Disturb” sign so that they wouldn’t mess up all the work we did. We left that room 100 times better than when we walked in. I do not recommend staying here. Collapse

I booked a standard twin room and was given a double room on arrival, which the staff were happy to change. The room I received was awful, but I decided I wasn't going to go back to reception and change again because I'd only be using it for sleeping. The rooms are *really* noisy and cold. There was a really cold draught coming in from the outside and I found it hard to stay warm in the room. The heater or AC wasn't working, so I phoned reception and they delivered a portable heater which was suffice. The room is really dated: 90s TV and no black out blinds. The beds were comfortable but the room was dirty when I arrived. The housekeeping service there was great, however. The staff really do make this hotel, kudos to them. They're extremely helpful. The hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk from Grand Central which was perfect for me and I would probably consider staying here again. You get what you pay for here. Just a note for the hotel to please introduce double glazing and black out blinds! Collapse

It took almost a month of virtual hotel hunting to zero down on Jolly Madison Hotel. Newyork is sooo expensive. I looked around for options on both AirBnB and the other Tripadvisor. There weren’t many options for less than $ 250 a night, wish I had a companion to share the room with. Being a Solo female traveler has its disadvantages. Airbnb locations were cheaper, but required at least 20 minutes of train ride from the CBD, and were at either Queens or at Brooklyn. Since NYC was an unknown territory for me, decided to choose a hotel room in instead of AirBnB, and booked a room in Jolly Madison. Had very lil expectation from the place since this was the only room in the entire New York CBD that I could find in my budget. It’s always better to be in the city center even if that costs a few dollars extra, that way you need not spend money on the local commute and saves a lot of time. Hotel was just 2 blocks away from the 5th avenue. It was unbelievable, just around the corner. I could not contain my excitement. Didn’t know to call it the day of my life or night of my life ! Check-in was quick as it was pre-paid, the room was far better than I had imagined. Small but comfortable, decor was slightly old but good enough for a short stay. This place is ideal for Solo female travelers, so close to the 5th avenue, safe and secure. Collapse
