Had an IHG rewards staycation night at the IC Double Bay and was very much looking forward to it. I mean, have you looked at photos of the rooftop pool?? Amazing!!! And obviously, it's even better in real life. A let down was children splashing, (it's a very small pool for children's shenanigans), jumping, running, playing ball games in the pool. It really takes away from the atmosphere. As a non-parent, I always find myself wishing places like this were adults only. Anyway, I had been reading reviews leading up to my stay and was aware that the rooftop is open to public (it seems like after a certain time, the lift just takes you to the rooftop, no room key required). But since it was a rewards night and I did get my sun beds with no problem, the lack of guest exclusivity was not a bother for this stay. The food menu at the pool was not overly expensive but food was not overly nice either...an odd thing was that we saw different people with bowls of chips by the pool and the two times we asked, we were told they didn't serve chips there. No chips?!? But it is planet earth!! You can get chips ANYWHERE, as the other people near us did! Super strange. Arrival was great, got welcomed and greeted outside and directed to check-in. Check-in wasn't super smooth as it seemed both people working at the time were new and unclear about the ihg rewards program. As it is with many rewards nights, we were given a two bed room and tried to change it. The lady checking us in checked with her colleague about a room she could see available (a king bed room) and he answered loud enough that we heard that I was only a 'club' member. Therefore, I'm assuming, not worthy of an 'upgrade'. The shock!! Haha..I understand that being club is equal to being nothing in their program but ouch! My husband is platinum (yes, also equal not nothing I know. We are aware that it only matters with ihg if you are ambassador but haven't felt that it was worth renewing for another year) and had mentioned that previously, but she said she was unable to change the name in the booking since it was booked under my name. The service was quite attentive and pleasant especially at the pool. The room was spacious, clean, modern and generally really nice. The bathroom was also lovely, spacious, had the all important (in my opinion) separate bath to shower. And the usual IC toiletries I'm not a big fan of. The bed was comfy (only one pillow provided for person though...strange!) but the ac didn't seem to be working for most of the night. The lobby was lovely and smelled delicious...the typical yummy IC smell. Overall, a really stylish, pretty, comfortable, modern and fancy hotel. Having had a (disappointing) staycation at IC Sydney previously, this one was a million times better. And I've stayed at a few Sydney hotels. Obviously, the Park Hyatt smashes all of them, but I have to say that this one is a close second if you don't want to splurge (as much as for the PH) and don't mind sharing the (gorgeous) pool and rooftop bar with non-guests. For me, it was awesome for what it was. However, I'm over ICs in general as the ihg rewards program has left me nothing but disappointment and frustration in my last stays. Next time, I'll just go up and enjoy the rooftop bar and pool without being a guest too. I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable paying to be a guest only to have non-guests enjoying the same privileges. Collapse
Great location but that's about it.

We essentially booked this hotel because we wanted to stay in Double Bay which is an upmarket suburb near the city centre with loads of good restaurants and accessible to Circular Quay by ferry. The hotel is newish with good rooms. After that it doesnt really have a lot to offer except for being in Double Bay in terms of amenity. The gym is outside and operated separately. The rooftop bar and very small pool has great views but is open to external customers who swamp the place at weekends and happy hour basically pushing hotel guests out of the way. The only hotel internal bar is often taken over by external evening functions which can be very noisy and leave the guests nowhere to go except your room. And it is an expensive stay.Would think very hard about going back. Collapse
