Booked here at the end of a 3 week visit to Australia. This was our bit of luxury at the end of our vacation and we booked the Club access as a treat. We know the hotel as we have stayed here before. We ended up really disappointed. Positives are location, decor and facilities all of which you would expect from a hotel charging around Aus $600 per night. As multiple reviews say views from the Club lounge are fantastic and worth paying money for. We booked this facility years ago on a previous visit and really looked forward to this trip. We ended up totally disappointed. Negatives - Lifts - a refurbishment programme is ongoing on the lifts and this was clearly signposted. Our room was near the lifts and every time one arrived on our floor there was a very loud ding or even two. The sound proofing in the room was so poor you could hear this over TV sound, whilst you were in the shower in fact all the time. At 2.30 or 3AM this is unacceptable. We addressed this when we were there and first response was we will note on your records for next visit!!! Then would you like to be moved to another room? Given you could hear the bell when lift arrived on the floors above and below moving would not have helped much, we would also have lost a few hours of our vacation moving rooms. They did give us some points because of the disturbance. - I would avoid any room near the lift. The hotel needs to tone down this sound, it has to be easy to do. By the way the refurbished lifts were a total mess with room selection being cancelled after selection on a number of ocassions, (this happened to your staff as well). We also had what seemed to be an emergency stop in our lift, when we got out it seemed the same had happened in the adjacent lift as well. This got the adrenalin pumping. The Club - This is expensive and a should be a real treat. It was incredibly well staffed, I have never seen this before is any club access in any hotel. The people were lovely but service was really hit an miss. Orders were forgotten on a number of occasions , you could be one of 2 or 3 people in the lounge and not get served despite the fact there were more staff than guests. Worst of all was the fact that the Club which is costly and should offer a haven of peace and quiet turns into a disco after I think 9PM on some nights with DJ and speakers everywhere. It was easier to leave the hotel and find somewhere else for a quiet drink. We were lucky enough to enjoy Club access at Sofitel and Marriott on this trip and Intercontinental was a very, very distant third in the ranking. Collapse

The receptionists who checked me in was so lovely! Too bad that I forgot her name. Everything was great except for the lady who checked me out. Looks like she doesn't know what she's doing.... I told her I want to pay by EFTPOS as I don't want to be charge 1.5% Service fee. Before charging my EFT Card I told her to select cheque, but seems like she did not pay attention to what I have said so my credit card comes declined. One of her colleagues tried helping her but looks like both of them can't tell if I have paid or not!!! so after a few minutes of starring at the computer they decided to tell me that is already settled. I asked them to make sure that 1.5% service fee will not be charged as I would like to settle on my EFTPOS. The gentlemen assured me that the 1.5% service fee will not be charged at all. This morning I spoke to the lady (I will not mention her name) who checked me out and ask her to send my invoice. I was not surprised that the merchant fee has been CHARGED! UNBELIEVABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR A PRESTIGE HOTEL!!!! TERRIBLE indeed!!! Collapse

Hotel is very conveniently located, its within 5 mins walk from station to catch train to airport. Witin 5 mins from Opera house. As a Royal Ambassador, used the club lounge on 31st Floor and it had impressive views overlooking harbour area. Beautiful to have breakfast with these views. Staff in the lounge were very helpful and offered great service. Thumbs up to staff in lounge. In room, no free Wifi was surprising. Amenities were good. Room service was OK, bit slow and did not anticipate cutlery etc, required for in-room dining. Also surprising was no electrical plug points near bed.. Another grouse was that lifts are painfully slow. I've never had to wait in long lines to get into a lift... at times took 10+ mins just to get into a lift. Recommend to stay here for location and views from top floor. Collapse

Back in July I had my first ever visit to Australia. It was a business trip and the Intercontinental Sydney was on our "approved" list of hotels. Since I was to be there for 5 nights, I was happy to see that as I've had great experiences with the Interconti chain. From my arrival to my departure, I had a very nice stay. The staff was friendly, room spacious and comfortable, included breakfast typically wonderful. My room overlooked part of downtown and was close to some major roadways, but it was very quiet. Overall the stay was enjoyable. I didn't give this property 5 stars as I've had incredible stays within this chain that were a star above this property. That's not to say that I wouldn't stay at this property again - I would in a heartbeat. I just didn't come away with any sort of "wow" factor. If you want a very nice experiences in a property with friendly staff that's in a great central location, be sure to check out the Sydney Intercontinental. Collapse
