Stayed here last night and the night before because I have stayed with Intercon Sydney during my previous visits to Sydney, I had no hesitation of booking my stay with them using my Ambassador complimentary weekend stay. Boy, was I disappointed! To be very fair, the young lady that checked me in was new and was trained to say all the "right" sentences to check me in. Was it welcoming? Yeah, I guess so. Was it robotic? For sure it was. She was only her real self when she was telling me about Vivid Event happening this weekend. Good on her for trying and doing the right thing by Intercon's rule book I guess. I was traveling with my friend so we have asked for a twin room. As an ambassador we were "upgraded" to a harbour side room. The room was just as expected since I have stayed before. Same deco, slightly out of date bathroom and ever the same amenities. No surprise and delight there for sure! We returned back to our room around 10pm the first night (Friday) and noticed we could hear laughter coming from our neighbors room next door through our walls! Thinking this "phenomenon" was not going to last that long we endured. (The laughter didn't stop till 2am). The next morning (Saturday) we were woken up by a wake up call at around 630am which we did not organize. We realize it was a wake up call to our neighbor's room! The walls were so thin we thought it was a call to our room! Seeing neither of us had a good rest on Friday night, I went and spoke to the girl at reception requesting to have a room move. The girl was certainly not sympathetic nor helpful. But did promise to have our room changed for us when we get back to the hotel. We got back to the hotel again at around 1000~1030pm on Saturday night and saw an envelope left for us in the room confirming we will get a room move. We contacted instant service and was told the room was released at 6pm because the hotel was unable to get a hold of me all day today!? I was SHOCKED! The hotel tried to contact me all day today but was unable to get a hold of me!? I literally have not receive one phone call from the hotel nor email!? After voicing my shock the young man said he will have his manager call me back. Up to this point, I was just so tired and so fed up with this so call "5 star service". The manager called m back to apologize saying the room was released at 5pm today because they had no way of contacting me all day. !?!?!?!?!? I had one guy telling me they have tried to contact me all day today and the room had to be released at 6pm on one hand and on the other I had this manager telling me they released the room at 5pm because they had no method of contacting me!? Which story should I believe? Or shall I say, get you stories straighten up before calling me!? By this point I was just so disappointed and really, frustrated with the the incompetence of the morning shift staff not passing over the details correctly. Do they really want me to believe they do not have my contact details to contact me even though I have stayed either them previously and that I am on their membership data base!? Really!? Or have they just not tried hard enough!? I think the later. My booking was made via the IHG website. A confirmation email was sent to my email inbox. If they were "unable" to find my mobile number I think an email would have been sufficient also. The manager later advised they have been trying our hotel room phone all day today hoping to get a hold of us....... oh my god.... they expect their hotel guests (especially tourist/leisure guests) to stay in the boring hotel room (with no sound proofing) all day just so they can let me know when THEY are ready to move their guests? Seriously!? I asked the night manager to shorten my stay so I can check out on The next morning. I cannot imagine myself staying another night in this fake five star property! Close to midnight as we were getting ready for bed, we got a call from the night manager who had "moved" a few things and can now move us to a different room. Seriously!? Too little too late mate! You could have done all this in the afternoon and have the room ready when your guests are ready to move. Why should a paying guest (who has, up to that point been loyal to the brand) work on your terms and not the other way around!? I had to think twice and ask myself am I really in a five star property!? Am I really staying at a Intercon property!? Needless to say, we didn't take the offer. We just wanted to rest and leave this goddamn place first think in the morning! I am glad to report we checked out before 9 this morning. And as usual, the manager on duty apologized for the "unpleasant" experience we have had and comped our stay. He offered his business card but I didn't take it... why would I when I know no one really cares until I made a scene!? The girl I spoke to in the morning could have avoided all these from happening... could have resolve all the inconvenience the hotel had caused us but no, she didn't care enough to resolve this and had to drag she colleagues into this drama. And I had to explain over and over again what we have experienced and how disappointed I was.... seriously, where is the customer service in all this? I am surely never going to retune to intercon Sydney again. I still have faith in the Intercon brand having experienced some of the best services in Intercon Osaka and Hanoi and Melbourne. But Sydney has failed completely. Perhaps it's not their team perhaps is the culture from the top? Thinking of staying at a five star property in Sydney? Consider Langham or other newer properties and give this one a miss! Collapse

Hi all, I would just like to let everyone know that the CLUB Intercontinental is by far the best place in Sydney. From the moment we check in the service at the club lounge was amazing. They remember you and your preferences. I am a loyal Fairmont Gold guest but the Club Intercon is very comparable . The views are amazing . The Opera House and the Harbour bridge was a 360 degree view. I specially like the staff and them calling me by my name and remembering what I like to drink. We had the Harbour view suite . it was worth every penny because of the view. we truly enjoyed it . I just found out also the I am now a gold member. after just One stay . Four seasons Sydney.....eat your heart out. . Stephen Guy Collapse

I'll start with the positives and say that this hotel does have a great location and that the view from the top floor restaurant is lovely. However, that view only comes with paying for a drink in the evening (when it's open to the public) or otherwise upgrading your hotel stay. Now onto why this hotel is only getting a 2 star review. The hotel is incredibly dated and badly kept. We decided to stay in this hotel because about 15 years ago my husband stayed in it with his parents, and I am pretty sure it has not been updated in all that time. The decor is dated - it looks old and worn down. The carpeting is run down. There was a nail/ staple that was protruding from our carpet at the entrance to our bathroom and all we could do to not hurt ourselves was throw a towel on the floor everyday. There were also problems with the heating/ air conditioning. We came to Sydney on the tail end of Cyclone Debbie and it was pretty cold so we tried to turn on the heating but what came our was either more cold air or damp hot air. We called the reception about this and they said there was nothing they could do. All in all, this hotel feels highly impersonal and has incredibly basic (if not worse than basic) rooms. I would NOT recommend staying here. Collapse

Stayed here for a work conference recently and was expecting big things.. it didn't disappoint, except for the mattress on the bed and no free wifi. The architecture of the building was beautiful and it was tastefully decorated throughout. From the moment you arrive the staff treat you like royalty even if you arrive slightly disheveled, tired and in need of a good sleep at 8:30am in the morning. I approached the reception with little hope of getting an early check-in only to be pleasantly surprised by the friendly receptionist letting me know my room was ready and I could check-in. The service levels continued when all of my bags were delivered to my room and a serviceman was called to assist me in opening my suitcase as I'd stupidly locked my keys in the case. The room was beautifully appointed and had a lovely view. The only downside was that the mattress felt like a concrete slab and no free wifi (unheard of in a 5 star hotel). The food options in the foyer were amazing - have been craving the pork belly ever since - best ever!!!! Collapse
