Have been to the InterContinental in Sydney numerous time and the hotel has become extremely lacking to be branded as an InterContinental. Perhaps Crowne Plaza on a good day. Issues on my most recent stay: 1. Alarm clock goes off at 7AM. I had unplugged the alarm clock that didn't prevent it going off at early hour several times. Triesld to find a way to turned it off. 2. Front desk calls me at 1030AM if I need help with my bags when I am in sound sleep due to jetlag. As a Royal Ambassador I have guaranteed 4PM check out. 3. Had to turn off AC several times due to noise. Unable to sleep otherwise. 4. Left my luggage to the club where checked out. Took more than 30 minutes for the employees to retrieve them when I was back to pick them up. 5. Left shirts to be laundered on Saturday and asked front desk to have them delivered on Sunday when I went to late lunch and catch a movie. Was not done. Hotel is supposedly starting much needed renovations next year. I would be hesitant to make bookings due to disturbance caused. Collapse

Stayed in the this hotel for the weekend. The check in process was very slow and surprisingly, people were jumping the queue. But once they heard us talking about it, we were served efficiently. We got the room 3 hours ahead of the normal check-in time. Thank you for that. Our room had amazing view of the Opera house and the Bridge. It was mesmerizing to see the night traffic from the room. The room itself is a bit dated. Some kind of renovation will help. The breakfast was efficient, nothing unusual. The coffee filters were probably not filtering the coffee well. Vegetarian options were less than expected. The Super Club has excellent views of the harbor. Overall, we enjoyed the 2 nights in this hotel Collapse
Sydney's reputation for being expensive is well deserved.

We stayed in a 15th floor room for 4 nights for our 20th wedding anniversary. Our room gave us a great view over the harbour and the International Hotel is in a great location for Opera and touring the harbour sights. Breakfast also offers a great variety and is good value. Mind you this all comes at a steep price. However, the room size, while adequate, is very dated and the bathroom is small. Also, no small personal touches at this Hotel. Even though staff at the desk were aware it was a very special stay for us being our anniversary there was no offer of a drink voucher, bottle of celebration wine or even a little note left in the room. It would have been a nice touch and help to make our stay that little bit special. Also, on 2 occasions we had to request rooms service to do our room as by 4pm we still did not have our towels refreshed. This is not what you expect from a 5 star hotel. The biggest rip off is the Intercontinental club lounge. It is advertised throughout the hotel but when we visited staff informed us that we would have to pay another $220 per day to experience this area. We could however visit after 8pm on certain days with the public for free. As a hotel guest I think that this area should be available as it is an integral part of the stay. Overall, the hotel scores highly in location, wonderful ambience in the lobby and restaurant areas. The concierge and reception staff were great. Collapse
Great location, slightly disappointing experience

Firstly, let me say that the hotel is extremely nice with good views, nice staff, lovely rooms etc etc The experience was somewhat marred by the check-in. I was one of a party of seven that had all been booked by one person. Two of the party were arriving one day later than the others. Upon arriving at check-in I attempted to book in but was told that due to the fact that another party had booked my room they would need to get his concurrence to my check-in. Strange but OK given I had photo ID, an IHG membership and was prepared to use my own credit card. I provided the phone number of my colleague and also attempted to ring him myself. He was in meetings and the call went to message bank. The person at reception said there was nothing they could do so I was just asked to sit in the lobby until it was sorted. Approx 1 hour later he was able to be contacted and the remainder of check-in went rather smoothly. Unfortunately our MD suffered a similar experience the next day and was then given a city view room when a harbour view had been booked. Otherwise, I found the hotel to be good, if a little tired in parts. The breakfast buffet was lovely, the club on level 31 was good too. Wish I had had the time to appreciate all the amenities the place offered but was a busy time. Collapse

Stayed only a couple of days for business. A few things I was surprised but not in a very good way. I didn't see any complimentary bottled water which was something new to me as a 5-star hotel with its room rates, only bottled water which has to be charged in the guest room. On the last night before I checked out, the room hasn't been turned down at all, which was a bit surprising or that's for environmental friendly reason? Not quite sure. I have my laundry hanging on my door with the form signed for whole afternoon without being picked up which then when I called I was told that I had to call, maybe a different standard of service from different part of the world. The room itself has been quite 'vintage' on all the switches reminded me of the 90's or maybe even 80's. Nothing wrong with that as long as it's not too difficult to have all the light to be off for bedtime, just that you have to switch off individually almost all the lights. Gym has been surprisingly packed! I guess Sydney's rent has been high as a reason? But really too small, making me feel a bit uneasy. Can't imagine if that's peak hour at the gym. To be honest, the worst thing could happen would be the bed bugs. I wasn't quite sure on the first evening when the next morning, I found, I have got bitten on arms, legs. When I'm back to my home, yes... that's for surely bed bugs. This is very annoying. The room was quiet which was good even I requested close to lift lobby. Staff has been an asset to the hotel, at least the front office staff have been nice although she's not confident enough which I think she could be. Banquet staff have been very nice. Excellent location to be close to the Opera House and the Botanic Garden which looks gorgeous and some other places of walking distance. Collapse
