Were there for 2 nights in freezing January. admittedly, the rooms need some work done as for example my shower wasn't working and couldn't be fixed. that doesn't matter, because we got so many smiles and positive attitudes, that you simply forget about those things that do not work and simply enjoy the overall experience. Breakfast is really outstanding. And also Location, location, location.... Only thing I didn't like was the fact that my bathroom had only see-through net curtains and I had impression the opposite tennants could see me in the bathroom, not that they'd enjoy the view, but didn't make me feel comfortable Collapse

I have stayed at this hotel a dozen or more times. The rooms vary widely, from the tiniest "classic rooms" with queen beds to suites and junior suites. The worst things are that some of the "so-called" king beds are actually two twins pushed together, leaving sleepers to fall between the two parts, and you can actually hear the Metro rumblings from the lower floors. The corridors are long and winding. Breakfast -- a huge buffet -- is overpriced (how much breakfast can one eat?). Lovely atrium bar. Don't count on early check-in, which rarely happens. In fact, it is common to wait for one's room for an hour or more after check-in time. Nothing happens quickly in this huge operation. Collapse
Excellent, above and beyond.

We have stayed at this property several times, and to be honest, after staying at other hotels in Paris on other visits, I was thinking this may be our last time at this particular hotel, but all that has changed, What a surprise, what an improvement. Starting from check in, where we were greeted by Sophie with a huge smile. Most times in the past check-in involved an agent with "attitude" and almost no recognition of platinum status. This time we were very pleasantly surprised. Sophie couldn't have been more helpful and more polite. We were checked in quickly and also informed we had been upgraded to an Opera suite. Again, just about every single time in the past, there was no regard for status, and always told there were no rooms available to be upgraded. We even received a phone message from guest relations welcoming us to the hotel and stating they would be more than happy to help us with anything we need. This may seem insignificant to some, but again this is a huge departure from how guest relations were here in the past. Receiving a message such as this was unheard of here. I had booked a Club Intercontinental room, so we could have access to the club for breakfast and a glass of wine now and then; the staff in the club is just stellar. A big bravo for running a class act. Even the housekeeping staff was extremely polite, always with a smile and a hello. The room was beautiful, large, and with balconies that looked out onto the Opera. You cannot beat the location of this place, which was always the main draw, and now I must say you cannot beat the staff here. I cannot speak about other rooms in this hotel, all I can say is that the one we were in was fantastic, looked as it had been recently renovated, and I can only assume that this is true of the other rooms as well. The only small suggestion I do have is in regards to the pillows; maybe I have been spoiled from staying at Westin's and W's too often in the past 18 months, but Intercontinental should find out where they get their pillows and get some for their hotels as well. Again, just a small suggestion. This turned out to be one of our best trips to Paris, and as we were also celebrating a special anniversary, management also sent us a lovely surprise, and I would like to say a huge thank you for this to management and all those that helped make this one of our most memorable trips. We will definitely be returning to Intercontinental Le Grand on our next trips to Paris. Collapse

Right next to the Paris Opera, and designed but he same architect that did the Opera, the hotel is almost a museum as it is a hotel. The service is also fantastic with highly trained staff who value and excel at service. Rooms are a little over furnished which makes them look smaller than they are, but that is a Paris thing I guess. This is the third time my wife and I have stayed at this hotel and if we get eh opportunity again we will take it in a flash. We ended up again on the third floor which comes with a small balcony =. I had a room that faces the Opera house and Opera metro. The view was good, the service was good, the hotel was well kept, the room was clean and comfortable, but there were some things that I would not expect from a hotel of this caliber, especially an Intercontinental hotel. The building has 5 floors and is an old building with lots of history. It certainly would fit into a movie from the Golden Era of Holly wood with handsome gentlemen and elegant ladies, which is not a bad thing. However in some instances where the property was updated, some details were missed. For instance, you should bring along a bright flashlight with you since the room doesn't have a flashlight in case there is an electricity outage. You'll, however, find yourself using the flashlight most of the time to look into the dark cabinets and drawers installed in the hallway. There is one feeble light at the end of the entry hallway near the main room, so the rest of the hallway is dark, making it impossible to see what's in the cabinets. The room safe is mounted in these cabinets and is useless without a flashlight since it's impossible to see the safe. I have attached a picture of the safe door illuminated with my flashlight. There are some things the hotel has no control over, such as the location. It's a great location if you are a tourist and want to see the local sights or go shopping, but the hotel is built above the Opera metro station and you'll hear and feel the vibrations when a train passes by. However, if you ever want to go anywhere on the metro, the Opera metro station is across the street. This has the advantage of being able to go to Charles de Gaule airport by train from the hotel. How convenient! Collapse
