The InterContinental is a nice hotel approximately a 5 minute walk from the French Quarter. Rooms are fairly good sized - maybe a couple of years dated but overall fairly nice. I only had a couple of complaints - one of them fairly significant. The first is that rooms across from the service doors (I was in 1455 so my guess is the any of the "55" rooms experience this) allow you to hear the movement of the service elevator overtime that it moves - this is not a quiet noise and because it is irregular, it is not a sound that you can get used to. The hotel should really offer ear plugs for these rooms - I also ended up downloading a "white noise" app to drown out the noise. I moved the second night and the new room was very quiet. My second complaint is minor but should still be mentioned - I attempted to call the front desk three times using both the "instant service" button and by dialing "0" - each time the phone rang more than 25 times with no one answering. I finally gave up and went down to the front desk. Collapse

InterContinental (part of the IHG chain) is located on St. Charles Ave., in the business district of downtown New Orleans. It is within convenient walking distance from the French Quarter, Harrah's Casino, the museums, and many points of eating and entertainment. (Hit the 'Explore' button on the main web page.) The hotel is very nice and the staff are wonderful. The food within the hotel itself is slightly overpriced with room service being quite high (cost of entrees and service charges added on). The Green Line street car goes right in front of the hotel, with a stop within a block. For $3, you can buy a 24 pass that will take you all over the city on streetcars and buses. Take the Green car out front, on St Charles, for a wonderful diversion through the Tulane and Loyola University district to see some beautiful old architecture. On the Red line, on Canal Street (2 major blocks away), you can take the streetcar from the Mississippi River to the Cemeteries (interesting in itself) or City Park (with zoo, sculpture garden, and art museum). If you want to take a city bus tour, you can pick it up in front of the hotel - the cost is steep at about $60 per person. But that tour (in a smaller, comfortable, 30-passenger, air conditioned bus) was about 3 hours and hit interesting city highlights, including a trip into the 9th Ward where much of Hurricane Katrina damage occurred. You can see much of the same city highlights from the two major streetcar lines for a tiny fraction of the cost. To see the French Quarter, walk there, experience it slowly over several days. It has many places to eat and shop. Don't miss Frenchman Street, where there is still the true jazz of New Orleans, away from the commercialization of the French Quarter (mainly Bourbon St). Explore by walking. It is safe and not extremely far - you walk further at Disneyland. Also, don't miss the WWII Museum, about 6 blocks walking distance or a Green Car ride from the hotel - you can walk there in 20 minutes. Favorite places to eat: Deanie's (terrific seafood), Du Monde by the river (the most amazing Benignets - French pastry with coffee), Luke (across from the hotel), and Desi Vega's Steakhouse (4 blocks away). Park your car at the hotel and don't take it anywhere (big mistake). Get out and walk or ride the cheap streetcars, for a much better experience. If you don't need a car outside the city, take an airport shuttle to the hotel and avoid the $42/day valet parking fee. If you drive from the airport, come in on Poydras Street to Camp St, turn left, go up to Gravier, turn left and then left onto St Charles (essentially, go around the block). The hotel's circular drive is on St Charles St. Go slow or you will miss it. It you forget an umbrella, buy one from the front desk for $5. All in all, a good, central place to stay. Good conference spaces. Going in and out with a car is a bit tight, but if you park it, and don't use it, it is quite simple. Very helpful and courteous staff. Except for the price of food within the hotel, I would give it 5 stars. Collapse

We had a king deluxe with balcony . The room was large and decent size TV. I could not use the bath as the switch from shower to bath was seized . The door leading to verandah was very difficult to open and close . The cleaners were good . Staff were very friendly and helpful . The foyer is nice with adjoining bar and restaurant owned by a chef and is independent of hotel . If you book here ask if you have a room away from the noise of the service lift . We loved the location however we shall try somewhere else next trip . Collapse
