The location is fabulous, the Warli art pieces decorating every room and hallway are fantastic adding an exquisite and personal note to the usual impersonal luxury hotel furnishings and decoration. The staff is perfectly trained and professional. The breakfast buffet is excellent and you can even enjoy the sea view on the terrace while savoring an excellent Bircher muesli or whatever your heart desires. The General Manager, Manas Krishnamoorthy, is excellence personified. Collapse

Stayed 8 nights February 2017 The Good Not a lot, I have to say. We chose the Intercontinental only because our regular brand does not have a hotel in downtown Mumbai. The hotel is located on Marine Drive and is a good location in a "Westernised" area of Mumbai. So expect to pay exorbitant prices in all the local restaurants ( NYC, eat your heart out ) We arrived very late ( early morning to be precise ) and they had everything ready and we were in the room within 5 minutes. The room was a good size and on the side of the building, so away from the traffic noice of Marine Drive. We could not hear a thing in the room which was excellent. The Housekeeping guys were the best. We got to know them well in the 8 days and we were really taken care of in terms of fresh bed linens, toiletries, tea, coffee etc; during this stay. Most importantly, they were not shy in making sure we had ample drinking water ( one dare not drink from a Mumbai tap ). The facilities in the room are fine. The bed was just above average comfort ( Comfort-o-meter: 6.5 / 10 ). The a-c is centrally controlled by the hotel. This saves them money. "Show me the money". It was set to 24c. On the first night I asked for the technician to come and adjust as we like it cooler. The guy came and reset it for us. The room had a great big TV with loads of channels and the bathroom consisted of a separate bath and shower with great water pressure. Security was both good and bad*. On the good side, they seemed to be quite thorough, checking bags each time and doing a body scan of guests each time. Except for women. No searches for the ladies. The Not so Good: Wi-Fi was dreadful. As IHG Rewards Gold guest, we were given free standard wi-fi. It was SO SLOW. Dreadful. We could have taken the Premium wi-fi for INR1250 per day ( approx. USD 20 ). "Show me the money". But that would have been an extra USD160 for our stay and this is not a typo but taxes +++++++ ( yep, 7 different taxes on everything in India. It's out of control ). Apart from the Housekeeping guys, the staff were lacklustre and uncaring. No personality and quite rude in some instances. Typically Indian, the place seemed to be about the money. "Show me the money"!! The room was fine, but this place is no 5 star. It's compares favourably with a good Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn Express. But no more. The downside of the security was that we felt we were bing watched the whole time. It is quite intimidating to be honest. I personally applaud good security, better safe than sorry, but because they only scanned the guys and not the girls, it seemed pointless. The biggest downside of this place relates to where the management have their primary focus. And it is not the hotel guests in my opinion. On the rooftop is a bar called The Dome. The hotel pool also happens to be on the rooftop. It is a very trendy, upscale bar for the "bright-young-new-money-things" of Mumbai. "Show me the money". The hotel clearly makes a "motsa" from this bar ( try AUD 14 for a small Kingfisher beer - no exaggeration ) and with those prices I understand why management would focus on this bar. The profit must be staggering. "Show me the money". The staff at the bar have all the bad attitude you would expect from a trendy place. The Dome really was a drag on the place if you are a hotel guest. It was closed for private parties two of the nights we were there, so we could not use the pool, and with only 2 lifts on one night, as guests, we waited 15 minutes to get to Level 4. The "bright-young-new-money-things" heading to The Dome were clearly given priority. "Show me the money". Summary: We only stayed here because our main brand did not have a hotel and it was just a let-down. There is nothing more to explain. But, based on previous Intercontinental hotel stays, it just didn't "cut the mustard" for the price paid. I was so disappointed. "Show me the money". Would I stay again: Emphatic no. Would I recommend: Emphatic no. Collapse

This hotel is smaller than other Intercontinentals I've stayed at but it feels like part of the brand. Rooms at the front have great views; those at the side less so. The roof top pool is delightful but it too is small with only a few sun beds. (And it was closed one day for a wedding.) The location is perfect for sightseeing or business. Reasonable value as Mumbai is quite an expensive city. Collapse

My wife and I went for the Mumbai Marathon and even though I stayed at this hotel several years back, some of the staff recognised me and ensured our visit was nothing more than perfect. Even though breakfast opened at 6:30 or so, they had prepared a breakfast in the lobby for all marathon runners as they had to start much earlier. They also offer an express massage for all guests which came in very handy after the run itself. Perhaps a little small, but a very cosy hotel and would certainly come back if I had to stay in that area again (only stay if your work/travel is nearby as the Mumbai traffic is horrible). Collapse
