We arrived for the IDS dental fair. When we checked into the hotel, they had our reservation wrong even though it was done through Amex. They had us listed as someone else on an Orbitz reservation. When we checked in, the front desk girl made it clear that our reservation through American Express had breakfast included. The next morning we went down to breakfast, they said we didn't pay for breakfast. There wasn't time to get internet (which is Fred Flintstone slow) and show them the reservation. No biggie it just made a hungry morning. Then we were given a room by the elevator. The "superior" room we paid $380.00 on the AmEx site was a "standard" room. My bathroom or larger at home. I called downstairs and the phone seemed not to be working. The person who answered said, "hello? Hello?" Like he couldn't hear me. Walked downstairs. The front desk said "superior is standard" and all superior rooms are small. Again, that's fine. I know we're in Europe. No biggie. The card didn't work. Called downstairs. They answer,"hello...hello..." like they can't hear me again. Walked downstairs. New card. So sorry. Tell the front desk something is wrong with the phones. They send a tech up. Nothing is wrong with the phones. Then we needed to stay one more night and they try to charge up an additional $40 than what's listed on the web site though we are Members. Call down from the OTHER phone. "Hello. Hello...?" Twittering laughing in the background. And I'm beginning to understand that the staff, though they pretend to be professional, are quite dangerously passive aggressive. The next day we were given no water, no washcloths, no tea and the teapot and can opener were taken away. Again, we came for business so we had our mind in work. I was still going to be fine until.... 4:18 this morning. Phone rings with a wake up call that was computerized. 4:30 phone rings again with a wake up call. This time, I was angry and got up and took video of the time and the call. Again, it was computerized. I called down. The front desk is laughing. The man who answered said,"Just want to let you know that we don't serve breakfast at 4:30. " I ordered at 6:30. "We will hold your door card and show you it says 4:30." I said "may I see it?" "oops! We see it says 6:30. Your six looks like a 4." Then it occurred to me... they don't want tourists at this hotel. Certainly not Americans. I've travelled all over the world and never had an experience where the staff actively fought to make sure my stay was as sleepless and horrible as possible. We spent upwards of $10k to be here for work and Intercontinetal hotel chain made sure it was miserable. Never. Never. Never stay here is you're from the US. They don't want you here. Collapse

The hotel is modern, well maintained and very pleasant. Like all Intercontinental Hotels in Europe I felt the room temperature was not high enough. When I requested a heater I was told that it is illegal to give one in Germany due to safety concerns, Anyway I managed. The room was nicely decorated and so was the bathroom. It was on a low floor and looked into a pleasant courtyard, The pool is actually in a health club to which one can get to without having to access outdoors. The pool was very long. The water temperature for me was too cold but after about 15 minutes I was able to have a good swim. I would certainly recommend this hotel. I was very comfortable. Collapse

This hotel has virtually everything going for it. Beautiful rooms, lobby, impeccable cleaning staff, marvellous location. You get what you pay for in that everything has been considered and accounted for. It's a superb hotel and, on a business account, ideal to stay at. Excellent but very pricey breakfast. Two small things that did not meet the standard set by virtually everything they do: 1) I had a poor bed but to be fair to the hotel I was alone in my group with that experience. 2) serving staff in the lobby's lounge knew nothing about alcoholic beverages and as such our drinks came to us breathtakingly wrong and slowly Collapse

Acknowledging that it was almost two years since I last stayed here, returning felt so pleasing. The check-in staff were polite and accommodating. Although after a long-haul flight it would have been nice to have access to the room in the morning, it was understandable that we had to wait until about 1 pm. The Superior room accommodation was spacious, well-furnished and very comfortable. The bedding was very nice. The air-conditioning controls are very effective, setting it apart from most hotels in the region. The bathroom has a separate bathtub and shower, and single sink. The shower water pressure is good. However, the sink splashes a lot. Toiletries are by Agraria. The sleep quality was good, although the blankets were very warm. There may be some noise from the city if you one does not have a room facing the innenhof. The hotel has an excellent location right on the Königsallee and is about a 10-minute walk to the Altstadt. I will most definitely return to the Intercontinental and it is, in fact, my second favourite hotel in Düsseldorf. Since writing this review I have returned five further times in 2016, of which I will post reviews of in due course. During my stay in July 2016, I paid €190 per night, which is a good price for a hotel of this standard. Collapse
